I know that Blade Grasp/Shirahadori helps you block an attack with your bare hands based on your Brave/Bravery. I also know that Maintenance/Safeguard helps protect your equipments from being broken or stolen. But if I already have Blade Grasp/Shirahadori on. Do I even have to use Maintenance/Safeguard to protect my equipments?

Well, Blade Grasp won't help you against Divine Knights, so there's a place you'd want Maintenance.

Quote (Lord Bob Bree @ 2nd April 2008 23:16) Well, Blade Grasp won't help you against Divine Knights, so there's a place you'd want Maintenance. Thank you very much Lord Bob Bree. I also just remeber, but if I also have Blade Grasp/Shirahadori, should I even bother to wear Shields and Mantles/Cloaks -------------------- In order to find your oppenent's weakness, you must first learn their pattern. Blade Grasp doesn't protect you against magic, while shields and mantles give you magic evade. So yeah, there's still a reason to use them.

Depending on weapon-evasion (Defender), mantles/cloaks/capes, and sheilds, wouldn't would Abandon work more effectively than Blade Grasp on average? It's been a while since I played the original and in War of the Lions, I haven't accessed the Samurai/Ninja job classes, yet.

Well, if you have Abandon equipped, your weapon's evade won't come into play because you won't have Weapon Guard equipped. Also, despite its description, Blade Grasp triggers on gun attacks, and Abandon doesn't help with that.
If I'm in a powergaming mood, I usually use a mediator to jack brave up to 97, and equip Blade Grasp, Magic DefendUP, and a mantle. The Blade Grasp protects against all physical offensive attacks the mantle helps against black magic a bit, and if it does get through, Magic DefendUP reduces damage by 1/3. That magic reduction also applies to Summons, Draw Out, and Geomancy, which can't be blocked. But yeah, Abandon and Blade Grasp are both ridiculously powerful. Go with whatever. One thing about blade grasp... it says in the description it won't guard against arrows, but it does. At least in the PS1 version. It's one of the best skills.
