Thanks for that super-informative post! What is it we're meant to discuss here?

So when's the new best FPS coming out? Tomorrow?

I've only played the multiplayer on this thing for about fifteen minutes (yesterday evening), but holy **** it was intense. Like, it's good-intense, but it's also intense in that I don't think it's a good idea to play it for long intervals.

It's a bit poor. I hate to be negative again but I can't be bothered with this newest war-sim. The campaign has been done in so many of these games since Conflict. The online doesn't compare to BF2. The graphics are exceptional as always but unlike Stalker it's no fun without a high spec computer and high settings. I haven't tried it yet on a console.

I liked the start I suppose. Shooting out the TV screens whilst the SAS were reviewing your performance deserves a chuckle. Also the way they put you in the middle of a military coup was interesting. But then it all got a bit standard again. The online is okay for half an hour. But then the boredom sets. Furthermore, some of the guns have serious issues with accuracy, they need to balance it.

I want to say a new game is good for a change! Assassin's Creed maybe?

Unimpressed. Apparently this game has real issues with my card, it doesn't play all that smooth and half the objects aren't lit, meaning I'm hiding behind sillouhettes of a tank rather than a tank and crawling through pitch black grass. Whatever, it didn't affect the game much (though it is rather sloppy in the framerate dept despite a professional 512 mb card w/ dual core processor and 2.5 gigs o ram)

It plays almost identical to CoD2. I was expecting far more freedom in the levels and how I tackled any given battle, but that was not the case. I was funnelled from one stand off to another with no real option to effectively flank a position. I guess I was expecting essentially a purely squad based version of BF2, and all that that implies (read: where's the f*cking co-op!?). Instead I got a game I already had two years ago in a new coat of paint which apparently doesn't stick to my walls*.

*by which I mean this game hates my video card

i dont know y u dont like this game. this game would suck with co op cause u would have fights like omfg u died and ud end up killing your friend. if u say, o make it so 1 person spawns when they die, then the game would be way to easy.

its got great multiplayer and amazing graphics. you guys just cant be pleased. go home and beat mario 64 for the tenth time or swing your wiimote on wii sports which i have to say was the largest most pathetic excuse for a game ever!

call of duty 4 has everything u can want in a shooter and thats why it was just the #1 seller.

Yes, the game is fun and all but that's not the problem. It's nothing different from any other Call of Duty game, and that's a bit of a disappointment. I mean, sure, it's fun to go through the multiplayer but it's stale if you've been playing the previous titles, especially when there are other games out there doing the same thing much better. It doesn't have everything you want in an FPS, as there is no co-op mode, the multi player modes are severely limited, it runs poorly on PC unless you've got the latest in hardware/software, which isn't many of us.

It's not that we can't be pleased, it's just that we can't be bothered to play and love every single game that comes out just because some magazine or website decides to gave it some fancy title or call it a #1 seller. Smackdown V.S. Raw is a #1 seller and that game is absolutely garbage.

I'd just like to preface this by stating that I like the game. I played it through on Hardened, and it was about the right difficulty. There was a nice variety in weapons, it looked great, and the developers really hit the "movie" feel well. It also ran great on my decidedly average gaming computer.

For the vast majority of the game, a co-op mode would be almost identical to Halo's. You're (almost) always with other soldiers. You're saying the second player couldn't replace one of your friendly spawns? As for making the difficulty go down, the game isn't exactly difficult to begin with. Checkpoints come around every corner, and you're never sent far back anyways.

The multiplayer plays like a slightly improved and faster-paced Battlefield 2. This is not a positive to me.

Don't particularly care about graphics. Do they show me what they need to show me? Yep. That's all that matters.

Of course we (or, at least, I) can. FPS's that I've had a lot of fun with lately include Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Bioshock, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Crysis. And this game, incidentally. That doesn't mean I think it's the greatest game of all time. In fact, that'd be rather silly.

This has nothing to do with anything, except as a strange way of insulting people who like Nintendo and further showing off your immaturity.

Call of Duty 4 doesn't have nearly everything you can want in a shooter. It's linear to the point of absurdity. When you have to rush enemy positions with them still alive in order to stop their infinite respawning, as a developer you've really broken some serious rules that have been set by other game series in terms of immersion. This is not 2005; your formula was starting to wear thin even back then. Plus, the multiplayer is lack-luster at best, and that's a huge part of a game with a single-player component that lasts 6 hours.

...And you actually care about sales?

It's not hating if you don't like a game that clearly sucks.

I like this game as well, for the single player but not multiplayer.

Multiplayer is the same thing as Multiplayer in CoD2, which gets boring after a while. CounterStrike or TF2 or HL/HL2 are much more enjoyable in the multiplayer.

Single player, however, is actually pretty good. Even though the enemies have practically the same AI as the previous ones, the story and missions you have to accomplish make the game worthwhile playing. Currently, I am on the mission where you go back in time as Cpt. Price, and you like,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
sneak past all the enemies with a bush costume and kill them with snipers.
This mission is pretty amazing, until the end where you die. Then you keep dieing and then you get frustrated at the game and throw your controller at your TV... >_>

The only problem for me is that on Veteran difficulty, the enemies rape me inside out left to right and up and down. They shoot through walls, they don't have to aim, and they have like, infinite grenades that they chuck at me every second. Grenades =/= good.

In all, if you didn't enjoy any of the previous CoD's, don't get this one. If you liked the previous ones, but you're sick and tired of it, don't get it. Once I finish single player mode, I'll be done with this game and move back to CS:S.

I recently caved into peer pressure, and bought this game for my 360. I had been expecting to do it for awhile, as I was waiting for my best buy reward zone points to go through. $110 in free, get-what-you-want-at-best-buy money. So I got CoD4, and Army of Two.

I'm not usually taken in by things like graphics, but wow! The graphics are nice. tongue.gif I was reading what other people had written about it here, and I would have to agree that levels are painfully linear, but that doesn't seem to detract from the fun of it for me.

I've only done the multiplayer once, and by the invite of a friend at that, so I don't have a really good impression of that yet. I got a couple kills in, and I believe I ended on par with kills/deaths. (I'm not FPS superhero, but if you want an ass-handing, I have Guitar Hero 3 as well, I'll show you real pain tongue.gif )

It seems that live is laden with lots of people that have Xbox headsets that shouldn't. Which immediately makes me wonder why I have one... tongue.gif

Also, I find it interesting that - not just a few, but ALL - of my friends have quit playing Halo 3 online and switched over to CoD4. I'm not saying that nobody is playing it, as - duh - people are still playing, just not any that I know. I had a buddy help me earn some reward zone points at best buy under the agreement that I would use them to buy Halo 3 for the online play, I said sure, and when he came to town to make his $1700 best buy purchase, he told me, "Screw Halo, you gotta get Call of Duty!"
I laughed, because all my friends that are into that sort of thing that live closer had already told me that, and in spite of what my friend thought, I was going to forgo Halo for CoD anyway.

It's all just fun. I enjoy it, but I can also see where people would have issues with game mechanics. The most depressing part about the game tho, is that Activision had a hand in it, meaning that between GH3 for 360, GH3 for PS3, GH3 for Wii, GH3 for PS2, GH3 for PC, CoD4 for 360, CoD4 for PS3, and CoD4 for PC, Activision can claim ownership of what are probably considered 8 of the highest selling games on their consoles.

And to deviate for just a moment, the above 8 is why Activision was able to throw a hissy-fit and cancel the release of the Rock Band compatable Guitar Hero Guitar Patch for PS3. You pull that kind of weight in the industry, and people do what you say... sadly. sad.gif

I haven't played this game in a bit, the multi player was really the only reason I got involved in the first place and after a while, it just sort of got stale for me... but I have a fun story related to it so I'll post it here:

For a while, especially initially after it's release, some friends of mine and I had gotten really into the multi player on Xbox Live. I mean, we'd be playing team death matches back to back for hours, it was pretty ridiculous. At any rate, we started getting rather fond of playing as the S.A.S. and Marines, especially because of the campaign's Lt. Price character. I mean, that mustache alone was just epic. At any rate, we started using a bit of the dialogue from game play in real life. For example, right before going into any place or exiting a building/car or otherwise, someone would yell "Let's do this, Marines!" or something silly along those lines. It's carried on despite the lack of our playing lately, and at a recent party, we let it get a bit out of hand. A few of us went to a dollar store and stocked up on cheap flashlights, taped a whole bunch of them together and turned them all on. Towards the end of the party, when everyone was finding places to crash, we began stalking from room to room, opening doors abruptly and yelling "FLASHBANG, THROUGH THE DOOR! GRENADE, OUT!" and then throwing our taped flash lights at people.

Just another example of how video games can effect impressionable youth, I suppose. Either that, or I'm just a huge douche.

And yes, that jargon is highly contageous. It's only a matter of time before I start saying, "Ooorah!" publically... again.
