You mean Mappet Monster?
![]() Similar, sure. I would still say it is not as good a game as FFT though. And to be technical about it, Eternal Eyes looks like FFT, not the other way around. FFT was here first. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Oh, agreed, FFt is a better game....I just thought the battle layout in similarity is uncanny. |

Well, just about any modern strategy RPG strongly resembles FF Tactics. Ever since Fire Emblem back in 1990, nearly every game in the genre shares presentational similarities.

Maybe it was because Final Fantasy Tactics was such a success. On one of my reserches, it said that Final Fantasy Tactics sold 824,671 copies in Japan in the first half of 1997. It also received postive reviews for its challenging battle system. Perhaps that's why many games' battling systems resembles FFT's so much. Of course only FFT's batting system is the real one and also the best!

Did you all take to it immediately? I came back to it after enjoying more traditional
RPG fare, and now I conspicuously choose sRPGs to play (SMT Persona3 being a vast discrepancy in my waning interests in stanrdard-RPGs). -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

Actually, FFT itself takes a lot from a relatively obscure game called Tactics Ogre, which was released for the SNES (and later the PSX) in Japan (only the PSX version was translated). Many of the developers of TO worked on FFT. |

Yeah, the battle system is very similar to that found in Tactics Ogre. Except, in FFT, the character customization is far far more in-depth, which is the selling point of an SRPG to me.
That said, I do love me some Tactics Ogre. ![]() -------------------- With the lights out It's less dangerous |

Though I think the battle system is quite different, I have to say the only game I ever played that actually tied with Final Fantasy Tactics, is SaGa Frontier, the only problem is that the game was rushed to be finished so 2 character's storylines were cut out, making it 7 seven characters to choose from instead of 9. & also the fact that some parts in Asellus' quest that were suppose to explain and affect her ending were taken out. But other than that. SaGa Frontier ties very well with Final Fantasy Tactics in the music and battling system -------------------- In order to find your oppenent's weakness, you must first learn their pattern. Well, it hasn't quite been mentioned in this thread, but my second-favorite strategy RPG is Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (which also has a PSP remake called Afternoon of Darkness). Regarding gameplay it's quite similar to FFT and Fire Emblem, but it takes the numbers game of a strategy RPG and takes it to ridiculous extremes, and has quite possibly the funniest storyline and cast of characters I have ever seen in an RPG. Definitely worth checking out; it's the best N1 game by a longshot.

I had a buddy who got Eternal Eyes as a gift once, and he played the hell out of it. I think he may have actually beaten it.
One day, he was telling me about how the mechanics of it worked, and I laughed and said, "So it plays like FFT?" And he says, "THEY MADE ANOTHER FINAL FANTASY??" ![]() Then came the whole, "It's been out for years thing, and the rest is history. As for being the greatest, I had to use FFTA as a gateway into FFT, as FFT totally screwed me over the first time, but FFTA treated me nice, and weened me into the sRPG world. ![]() -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! FF X was number one, FF VII was number two, Dragon Quest III was number three, and Dragon Quest VIII was number four. Something like twelve or thirteen of the top twenty were either FF or DQ. It was ridiculous. -------------------- |
