Well after clearing through Zozo, i realized Gau needs more rages. I dont have the air ship yet, and I was just wondering, how do i get back to the Veldt?

I don't think that's possible until you get the airship for the first time. Sorry.

Then again, I'm not sure if you can go there by taking the Lete River. I'm sort of dubious about that, since Sabin fell off the raft and then did all of these things to get to the Veldt.

I'm not sure. You may get stuck there, you may not. But if you can, just retrace your steps through Sabin's scenario. I'd save first though.

You can. The Lete river and Baron Falls both take you to the Veldt, the Serpent Trench takes you to Nikeah. I'm pretty sure you can take a boat from Nikeah to Narshe, and from there you can take the South Figaro cave and then the mountain path to the Returners hideout. From Nikeah, there's a narrow path that will take you to near the house of the crazy old man.
