Replay Value

I think one of the best things going for FFVII is its replay value. I believe I have beaten the game 6 times since I got it the summer before last and every time I play the game again, I take a different point of view, for instance

one time I played the game and I thought the whole time, (up till later obviously) that this person I am playing as isn';t really Cloud. I mean he is, but his personality isn't his own, in essence you're really playing as Zack.

then another time I got very upset with Aeris. She says something like, I think I only like you because I saw "him" in you. . . (Which means Zack, of course) that was depressing to me, but then later wasn't because since she dies she can be with Zack in the lifestream, whereas Cloud can be with Tifa (who, as I began to think from the previous time through, he is much better suited for) I used to always be upset that Cloud lost Aeris but then I began to think that Aeris was really in love with Zack through Cloud, and Cloud was more suited for Tifa

just random thoughts. any opinions?

Good point, but it sounds more like a romance novel in that wording lol

You want an all-out love story in a Final Fantasy, play FFVIII (which is a good game regardless of what people say)

I've gotta say, I prefer Zack to Cloud now that I've played through Crisis Core.

Cloud...seems kinda bland now.

Well, I like FF VII, but I don't see how it has much replay value. There's only one storyline path, no multiplayer, and limited customization options. You could always do a second playthrough on the pretense of "I'll use ____ instead of _____," but that can be said of almost any game with multiple characters. The examples you use to illustrate FF VII's replay value are a little flat, as they focus on specific character and storyline elements, which are completely subjective with respect to the player's tastes and preferences.

But my bottom line: FF VII doesn't have much replay value unless you like the game enough to want to replay it. Without anything that traditionally defines replay value, all you have for a possible replay are nostalgia purposes and pure appreciation for the game. Of course, FF VII is popular enough that those two reasons are usually plenty for someone to replay it; I've played through it three or four times, I think.

My fangirl heart beats in joy when I think of Final Fantasy and the romance throughout the games. Instead of reading cheesy romance novels, I play Final Fantasy, because some have excellent romances, like VIII. I enjoy watching the Squall/Rinoa pairing play out.

Er, however, FFVII wasn't one of those games. The romance, in my opinion, was not interesting. I didn't really care about any character pairings, not like I care for Locke/Celes and Balthier/Fran. So, yeah. No replay value based on the romance.

If you're the kind of person who gets different things out of playing a game multiple times (like you notice dialogue you ignored before and maybe discovered something new about the characters) then I'm not holding you back. Go for it, and replay it. Final Fantasy VII, is, after all, one of the most confusing games in the series. I admit I can't pick it up again because I have other games to play, but maybe someday I will.

I've played about 4 or 5 times all the way through. But I've branched on other saves to try different things. I guess replayability depends on how much you like the game. A lot of people either don't like it or just think it's okay, then there are fanboys like me that love the crap out of it lol.

Guess it really comes down to you, gamers

wow that's something i pretty much overlooked... i never thought that deeply on it. i've got so many games to play, that i haven't beaten FFVII more than once, but im sure ill come back eventually to beat it at least 1, probably 2 more times.
