so i got the new nano for my birthday yesterday (as well as a mac mini) and i would like to know how to delete songs, if possible.

I think you need iTunes for that, and you have to hook up your ipod to the computer to delete the song off of the ipod through iTunes.

Of course, I cannot answer for him, but I know some MP3s come with songs already programmed onto it. I'm not sure if Apple does that to their ipods, but it's always a possibility.

As far as I'm aware, Apple doesn't usually sell iPods with songs already in their memory, so unless you bought it used, I think it's pretty weird. At any rate, the best way (and least complicated) is to have iTunes installed, plug your iPod in and delete the songs from your ipod's window.

If you've set it so that synchronizing is off and you can manage the ipod yourself, you can go to My Computer and open up your ipod through there by clicking the removable hard drive icon that usually appears. Once in there, there's always a folder that holds your mp3s, though they're labeled funny (I'm not the most computer literate person, so I have no idea why). Deleting everything in that folder will wipe the iPod clean.

You can also click the Restore button in iTunes, which will set the iPod back to it's default settings and empty it out entirely.

yeah, i thought to myself.....oh, plug it into my iTunes and then go to Music....but what kind of iPod comes with songs already on it? i put an album and another album my friend gave me with most of the exact same songs on it, so i wanted to delete it.

when you synch the ipod, it should replicate your library onto the ipod, (it doesn't keep adding additional. if you want to permanently remove a song from your library delete it. but if you only want a few select songs on your nano at a given time, uncheck the ones you do not want before you synch.

and if that doesn't seem to work, you may have you synch options set to put everything in your library onto an ipod. so under that condition you might just need to change your synch settings.
