I just want to know everyone's opinions, I remember when VI first came out on SNES I was reading in a Game Informer and i thought it was a direct sequel, but of course i was wrong. and i was also 9 or 10 and just got into final fantasy.

No. I've never supported the concept of any direct links between Final Fantasies. Even X's lame attempt to tie itself onto 7's bloated wide load of spinoffs doesn't exist in my mind. Thus, only characters in direct sequels have relations to characters in previous games, and Rydia and Terra are, as far as I care, not even in the same universe never mind the same bloodline.

Does give me an idea though.

No, I see no reason to think that there are any connections at all between the worlds or plotlines.

Well, there is one connection...

Rydia is a summoner, while Terra is a summon-human hybrid. It is their relationship with the Summon Creatures that links the two of them. They are not related in any way. One is a summoner and the other is a summon herself.

They just have green hair and are have mystical bloodlines. I hate when people try to make stupid connections with the Final Fantasies. If the two worlds were meant to be related, there would be more evidence prove that. (Such as, am I related to Ellen Paige because we both happen to be brunette?)

Well, you do have to admit that green is a less common hair color. But still, there is no connection. However, I would recommend writing a fanfic about them. If there isn't a connection, just make one yourself.

Lol, 100% no, you figure someone would pick a yes just to spite, o well, but i agree, No connection imo, any stretching to that end would be quite a stretch, not saying it's completely impossible, but it would have to stretch along the lines of FF4 coming before even 1,000 year's pre FFVI

Commonalities i see are:
Summon/Esper World
Summons have an unusual effect on humans in FFIV (before it was bombed)
all the other creatures (that are in every FF like Chocobo/Moogles/Imp)
other than that I do not see much if any common points.

Hehe, I actually like hypothetical situations, I may not believe in them, but their fun to explore

I would have to say no since the only connection is hair color (which are different shades) and maybe skills. As del said, ff games have nothing to do with each other unless it's a sequel or spinoff. Though I still think tactics is in the same universe as XII.

And who voted "yes" ? and why?

She had blonde hair in the original Amano art too. But I agree with No-Name, their hair can't make them related.

I dont believe they are related, for the same reason many have said before, but i do agree that a possible fanfic would be cool to try to connect many of the final fantasy games.

For example, i am writing a fanfic, and a way i am connecting the games (if at all really) is bringing the ghosts of 1 particular warrior of light from each game (minus spinoffs, X, X-2, and tactics games, etc) back as "heroes of the past". I will present this storyline further in another post, but a fanfic does sound intriguing...

I think the only thing possible to a connection between 2 storylines would be Zidanes comment on the Buster Sword in Lindblum Sword Shop; "I remember a guy with spiky hair who carried something like this.."

And even that was just a cheeky reference.

No Rydia is not related to Terra. But i guess the green hair would throw someone off. But Rydia's hair was originally green, why Terra's has blond hair. But before they Released FFVI- FFIII at the time- Ted Woosely( I think that how you spell his last name...)
Changed her hair, saying.

Curious, can you source that from anywhere reliable? Why on earth would a translator, who only worked on one version of the game, have any say over hair color in a sprite?

Amano wanted it blond, but Ted suggested that it should be green before it was released, but in the art, her hair should stay blond.

But you can find this info everywhere you look up Final Fantasy VI, but i got it from a
Japanese site. biggrin.gif tongue.gif happy.gif

Funny, because I can't seem to find this info anywhere. Post a reliable source or retire the hugely unbelievable claim, please.

Somehow, I think you are confusing the story of Terra's hair color with the story of Tina's international name.

Quote ("From Wikipedia")

In the North American version, [Tina's] name has been changed to Terra. This is because the name Tina, while sounding exotic to Japanese people, carries no such feeling in the US/Europe. For this reason the name was changed to the more exotic sounding "Terra" for the English release. The word "Terra" means "Earth" in Latin and "Monster" in Greek.

Terra's sprite's hair color is consistent among the different regional releases of the game, and to my knowledge there is no evidence (in any language) that Terra's sprite "originally" sported blonde hair, nor that Ted Woolsey, of all people, had any say in any character's appearance.

---

To contribute, I don't think the characters have any connection. They're supposed to be entirely different characters involved in the final mystical story of their respective, completely separate universe, after all.

However, I do find it funny that running "Tina Final Fantasy" through Google.co.jp Image search turns up Rydia pics on the first page.

Well, he has actually "Said" it. Believe me, I would know these things. And don't ask why ...........Its a big Secret.........Really!
And, if they wanted her hair to follow her Esper's side of the family, they would have made it
her fathers hair color, but they didn't(Which is a light shade of blue.). They made it emerald color. And they changed the name because Tina(To Ted) Didn't sound...Espery enough, nor monter like, which is way they chose "Terra" for the name. Which is way better then TIna
Oh, and i know what Terra means, i have been studying Greek and Latin for a long time now..........Four years..Really..But i will learn more! wub.gif thumbup.gif

And another thing about Terra's name. Ted said he might of named her after the office across the Square Enix Building in Washington , know as "Terra Frim".
Which could be a reason for naming her that.

Okay, enough. Your insistence upon this stupidity is derailing the discussion, and you just posted three times in a row. Go read the forum rules before you post again.

I don't think Ted Woosely did FFVII...and I remember looking that up on wikipedia when I was totally schooled in chat by R51and Karasuman.

And again, there are many departments that work on a video game. Script writers, translators (when the game's brought into another country), people who fix up the sprites and backgrounds, those that work out the battles, and character designers. The translators and people who decide how the characters look work separately.

The questions you asked pertained to translation problems. And you know, the guy did his best.

I think most of the FFs, at least up to 7, were designed with the idea of a sequel not in mind.

Most 'sequels' or 'connections' were thrown on in later games, usually not involving the ideas or intentions of the original designer's plans.

I don't even want to vote. Just because Rydia/Terra is tied into a world of Summons/Espers and has green hair doesn't make her related to Rydia/Terra.
