I haven't had a chance to play multi-player yet, and as such I've yet to acquire a fell sword. I've read that they require two hands to hold, and I've been wondering if the game treats it as though you had the Doublehand ability equipped, or if it's just a mean stipulation to keep you from equipping a shield. In either case, is it possible to actually use the Doublehand ability to increase the damage?

In my last playthrough (PSP version) I had a Dragoon equipped with an Obelisk (attack power: 12) with the Doublehand ability and he always did a whopping 600-700 points of damage with a standard attack, so I'd say 'yes'. Most people I know, however, generally prefer Dual Wield when dealing with swords/Knight Swords.

maybe someone can answer this. how much increase in attack does doublehand actually add? is it just a %, or is it a formula?

It doubles the damage you would normally deal, Jace. But what I meant by my question is that since fell swords are automatically held in both hands, is the damage also automatically doubled with them?

i honestly dont know. but i will test this. i am curious now.

maybe ill try equiping a fell sword, attacking in battle, then change-equip to a 1 handed sword with the same attack/element.

i will post the results shortly.

wow, that was quick.

well, i am extremely confused. a fell sword with the same EXACT attack power does less than half the damage than a knight sword with the same attack. ( 336 defender, 128 fell sword with same attack.) wacko.gif

i dont get it. being a 2 handed sword you would think that it would do more damage, or at least the same amount,

I guess the power isn't automatically doubled then lol. The formulas for calculating the damage are different for the two though:

Knight sword= Physical attack x Bravery divided by 100 x weapon power

Fell sword= Physical attack x (100 - Faith) divided by 100 x weapon power

thanks for the info ruin's fate. i can see why it was doing crappy damage for me. ramza had a high faith while he was using it.

it makes sense though. the fell swords are a dark knight's weapon, and the dark knight isnt a class that focuses on faith. plus, the dark knight has a lower physical attack than most other heavy classes ( dragoon, knight etc.)

Knight Swords' damage increases with higher Brave, while Fell Swords' power increases with lower Faith.
