Mine is the PS1 version except for the dark knight in the PSP version.

The rewritten script in the PSP version does a lot for me, and I also really like the cut-scenes. I never played FFT when it was on the PS1.

i like the psp version, some of the name changes are strange but it fits with how they do the voices in old english. i dont like the fact that the characters no longer say a little phrase with their spells and special moves, that would have been fun. and instead of having names like hellcry punch, the move is simply called break accessory...kind of lame.

I'm sort of mixing on this question. There are good things and bad things about both versions. Here are just a few that I liked and disliked.
PSX Version -Plenty of mistranslations and bad Engrish -No multiplayer function +Fast load times +Quotes whe using spells and abilities PSP Version +Drastically improved script +New FMVs +Lots of new content, including multiplayer -Loss of originality (everything is changed for FFXII, like magic is now magick) -Slow casting animations and no more spell/ability quotes -------------------- "You underestimate the strength of a Jedi's mind, Brejik. I've falen in love with the PSX version, but I haven't got a PSP, thus never played that version of it.

Mistranslations or not, the original version is still the most endearing to me. Kinda funny, but when I griped in the past about multiplayer/cutscenes/sidequests in the event it were remade, I never would have traded those for completely reworked dialogue. When y'play it for so long, I think many players can understand the sentiments.

well of course shotgunnova but at the same time there is a difference between a laugh because of some typos and mistranslation and then sitting there and saying wait what the hell just happened...
dont also forget about the new battles that they have added in the psp version. Possible spoilers: highlight to view btw: ramza throwing his sword at a behemeth and then starting the battle with it was a little funny, would have made for more of a challenge -------------------- "Change the world? no one can do that, Im not that naive!" |

I have to go with the original, although they both have their virtues. The redone script in the PSP version seemed unnecessary to me and i thought that it really took away from the story of the game. The characters all tend to talk too formally for my tastes. Aside from this, however, you have to take into account the added battles, which were very satisfying , and the portability factor of the new version. I didn't see the added classes as much of a benefit, so I mostly excluded them from my decision process. The largest factor in the PSP version's favor is the inclusion of multi player, which is phenomenal. In the end though, the rewritten script is just too poorly done for me to give the nod to the new version.

While the slowdown is most certainly annoying in the remake, you grow to live with it after awhile. The wonderful new script and animated cutscenes/bonus content make it my favorite version.

Don't forget about the new characters and new battles added into the storyline. I was wondering why those battles with Delita did not seem familiar.
As with a lot of the remakes, the name changes seem to bother me the most. After so many years of playing FFT, you become accustomed to names like Algus, Formav, Miluda, etc. The new script, of course, makes it feel like it was worth the wait. Sometimes players would be majorly confused by what was going on just because of certain mistranslations. Some mistranslations were just mindless, of course. Quote well of course shotgunnova but at the same time there is a difference between a laugh because of some typos and mistranslation and then sitting there and saying wait what the hell just happened... While this can happen, most of those "what the heck?" errors are completely peripheral (rumors, propositions, character quotes...) and have nothing to do with the mandatory plot. The errors that truly impact the plot are mostly clarification issues; the player might be able to perceive it without the game explicitly stating it, such as "defeat Dycedarg's elder brother" and Ramza's outburst to Wiegraf at Orbonne Monastery. [I might be forgetting something else rather obvious, but after wading in FFT culture for so long, brain freeze is par for the course]. FFT has one of the worse translations in the series, but only comparitively; it's not like dyslexic kindergarteners translated the script like some dictionary-thumpers' exaggerations would imply. Definitely the PSP version; I look forward to replacing my PSP with the new kind
that support video-out, because then I can share the cutscenes on the big-screen! As much as love the PSX version, it's the PSP version I constantly load (or leave in suspension for immediate play). It's topping the listings for Best PSP Game Of 2007, too! ![]() Finally, a followup comic from RealLifeComics creator GregDean on playing FFTpsp. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |

i originally bought the psp for War of the Lions, but it turns out there is some pretty good games out and coming out for the psp, its portability is unbeatable and the graphics can be pretty good (however its not in most games for some reason) but there are some really good upandcoming games in the near future, tactics is just the icing on the cake

For the PSP version, I like the dialogue and the re-translation. It'll take me some time to get used to the re-spelling and re-naming of some of the characters, abilities, and jobs, however. Having fallen in love with the original, I think the PSP re-make could only make it better.

I think for the SRPG fan, the PSP is almost a requirement, like owning a
PS2. Wild ARMs xF just made it into a wishlist for myself (hexagonal S RPG). War Of The Lions won a few PSP Game-Of-The-Year awards, too, if that helps certify it's near-ubiquitous appreciation. -------------------- Putting the A's in W lm rt: A11smart, Jobclass: Retailer. |
