Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris are all essential to the story. Barrett becomes comedy relief later on, while at the beginning, it seemed like he'd be a good foil for Cloud, yet he got stupider and lost all credibility later on. Cid made a good sub-leader when Cloud was out of it. Yuffie's side quests are fun and I like her personality. Red13 is a nice secondary character, but I hate his hometown.

Its between Vincent and Cait Sith. I really just hate the bouncing motions of CS in the battles. So annoying.

Yet, Vincent is pointless. His sub quest seems tacked on with little thought put into it. I also hate his limits.

So, Vincent it is.

Cait Sith is just another waste character, like Gau in 6. Nobody should like these characters and if you do, be sad.

I freakin' love Cid in 7; he never stops smoking. Ever. There's a good role model for you, kids!

I voted Tifa. I don't hate her, I just like her least.

I originally disliked Yuffie the most, because she is pretty annoying, but after the Wutai quest I liked her more.

Cait Sith is one of my favorite in the game. He provides such a unique dynamic to the party and to the plot, and he is very original and unique. I also like his conflict of unwillingly helping the enemy, but also helping the party. He has some interesting parts with Barret (my favorite) towards the end.

People never get up off him over the 'traitor' thing, but it's not like he has a choice. If he is a traitor, I don't see why people don't keep calling Cloud a traitor for handing over the Black Materia.

Battle wise I picked Red XIII (otherwise known as Nanaki) for a simple reason. His limit break is crap. The only good one he gets is Starfall or whatever, which is level two, and thusly unnecessairly weak.

To people who say that the stats are weak... they're all the same. The slight variation between characters is nothing, and even that can be easily fixed with a couple minutes training in the Gelinka. The only thing that differentiates between characters in battle is limit breaks and weapons. Limit break wise, Nanaki has the weakest. Cait-Siths are close to being that bad, but there are patches and tricks and whatnot that allow you to control the slots, so that barrier is null. Weapons wise, everyone's ultimate weapon (except for Tifa's) is decent, with Vincents and Barrets coming out on top (as they are the only ones which can be overcharged, resulting in instant death attacks on everything, WEAPONs included... heh heh heh).

Concerning the story, Nanaki has the least reason to be fighting Sephiroth, with the possible exception of Cid. Cloud and Tifa are obvious. Barret because his whole goal is to preserve the planet. Yuffie because Sephiroth was insturmental in destroying Wutai. Vincent because of Lucretia. Cait Sith has the Shinra connection.

Personality wise, well, Nanaki doesn't really have a personality. During the game he'd talk less than Vincent if it weren't for the Cosmo Canyon area, which really only reveals that he's a kid trying to act like a grown-up.

These are the reasons that Nanaki is my least favorite character. Now you know...

There seems like there's a lot of Cait Sith dislike 'round here, and I'd like to defend him. He's a very happy creature that is almost pointless, but I find that the scene in the Temple of the Ancients is a great one. It's a sacrifice that's commonly overlooked.

I have no greater dislike than characters who are dark and brooding. Yes, that does mean Vincent. He was not interesting at all, and I despise how he's glorified by too many fans, but then again, I hate how FFVII is glorified in general.

I voted Cait sith.. I really never use him because well.. to me, he's kind of useless.. I don't really care for his character either, but I'll also say.. I don't really like Aeris. She was an important part of the story but I just simply didn't care for the fact that all the leveling with her is in vain and that she is generally weak anyway.. kind of useless to me.

SERIOUSLY! I knew she was gonna die, but i thought it was gonna be towards the end.....I already didn't like her, and when she died sooner than i had anticipated....I eventually grew to hate her.

I think i might hate Cait Sith more though....

ok that is TOTALLY different.

Cloud was being controlled by sephiroth/jenova. Its not like he was aware of what he was doing. Cait Sith (reeve) was....

I hardly see how anyone can fault Aeris dying, its in the script. She's personally my favorite. As for least favorite, for battling it's Cait, all I do is load him with materia, stick him in the backrow, and let him rip, but he doesn't have a special strength. Personality wise, Barret lost luster pretty quick. I think the game gave him a poor hand to work with, and I can't stand the Mr. T thing. I know the Japanese are rather insulated from black people, but holy-wow... he was insane. Cid's a future wife beater, for all he rocks in battle.

While personally I'm a Cloud/Aeris shipper, I really like Tifa. She's strong and supportive. I just don't see her hunkering down with Blondie. In my fics I usually stick her with Rude or Reno, in AU fics, I usually pair her with Zack. Yuffie I think was a joke gone bad. ><

You mean Aeris dies!? The horror!

Estelle Getty died recently as well...after all that time I spent leveling up her Curmudgeon materia...

Also, I can't abide by all of this Cait Sith hating. I used him/it extensively as the team's Blue Mage/White Mage and found him to be largely successful. I also didn't mind the traitor twist as he redeems himself in the end.

If I must dislike anyone it would have to be Cloud. Though I love FF, the tradition of nauseatingly emo main characters slowly becomes maddening. That and he always had to be around. I eventually just wanted to drop his overcompensating and gestalht butt off in Costa Del Sol for a little R&R and continue on with Vincent, Cid and Cait Sith. Perhaps if they do a remake that will be a welcome option.

My least favorite character is probably Aeris. Shes so boring and has no personality. Shes like Yuna's prototype, and I hate Yuna.

I dont have a least favourite character, i just dont like it when the game forces a character on you that youre not already using! If people dont like yuffie and vincent, why bother recruiting them in the first place!!?

Yuffie constantly pisses me off, least favorite sidequest was hers, not having materia really helps you appreciate it.

Reeve should've just been man enough to be the spy himself and not use a puppet. Plus Everyone would've enjoyed reeve joining avalanche in person.

Cid has always been my least favourite character in this game, because of the way he treats Shera when you first meet him. That being said, I still have him in my party at times because I like to use all of the characters equally. I always rotate in whoever is at the lowest level.

He's generally just annoying and has been pointed out by others, all that separates characters in the end are weapons and limits and IMO his limits are the worst.

I don't get what people have got against Aeris
She's an amazing party member once she's levelled up.
She's a really good healer, she has amazing Limits
And she's not THAT bad at fighting

so for those who think you hate him cuz hes a traitor... just stop and think... what if he didnt?
all sephiroth would be is some insane guy whos crazy awesome at killing things...meteor wouldnt be a threat and thus the story would flop... could sephiroth get the black materia from cloud... not without it being a boss battle cuz without that focal point of sith betraying us, cloud wouldnt have been able to get along with the story to find out he wasnt him and sephiroth wouldnt be able to reveal to him his true...ish self which is exactly what gave him control over cloud...therefore he wouldnt have been able to give him the black materia... and im pretty sure we know the cycle from there

Wow you guys you don't have to be so NASTY about it.

I happen to ADORE Cait. His Limits may be random, but hell, they can do MASSIVE damage. He took out Lost Number (they boss from the Nibelheim safe) and Gi Natak (I think that was the Cosmo Canyon boss's name) in, like, barely any time at all. Plus, his accent is adorable. I don't really mind his whole traitor thing, either. Reeve REALLY didn't like doing it, you can tell. I loved him, he added a bit of cheer to an otherwise really serious group.

That goes for Yuffie, too. I hated the whole stolen-Materia thing, but gee, if you got her, you set yourself up for it! She's adorable.

I love everyone else. If I had to choose a least favorite, I didn't really like Tifa. She seemed to be the fanservice, and she was kind of- no, WAY TOO pushy when it came to Cloud's personal life. Sorry, but I didn't enjoy that. And her Limits were way too weak, even in the combos.

On a cheery note, I like cait sith, Aeris, Tifa and yuffie. Get it on pc, then edit the save game so cloud is removable. All female party FTW!
