Okay so here's the thing, even though i've played through this game so many times i can recite the entire thing in my sleep, i do need alittle help. You see i've been trying to power build some of my characters (i.e locke, celes, strago, ect.) the problem is by the time i really get the characters back that i want they like level 30 and it's getting impossible to evenly build up there stats to round them out. So since i've never tried a low level game before i was wondering if anyone had and advice for me on how to get started on this?

Have a party of two characters and give them both exp. eggs. This should raise their levels if that is what you are looking to do.

GameFaqs has a great low level guide. It sounds like a challenge.

im slightly confused as to the question here, but if you just use experience eggs on the characters with lower levels, they should be up to everyone else in no time. especially if you wait to power level until you get at least a couple of your characters.

I think he meant beefing up stats without leveling too much.
No idea.

^^; umm well what i ment was that it seems like every time i get into the world of ruin my guys are like already level 30. Which makes it hard to adiquatly get there stats high enough in areas where they'd be useful. Like for example to make locke a master thief you have to give him a high speed stat. The problem is the only way to do that (at least in the orginal) was to get odin, who wasnt obtainable untill really late int eh game. Which means you have to wait a long time before you can get his stats up. I'm trying to make my characters more balanced in stats, that way i can maximize there abilities and maybe have less trouble doing some of the things i want to do. Problem is i can't ever seem to adquiately do that because as i said, by the time i reach the point where i have enough espers to beef them up, there already too high of levels for it to really seem worth it. Does that clear things up? i just want to know if anyone knows how to start a low level game, and give me advice on how to beat some bosses with out having to beef up (like the airforce boss just before the floating content.)

someone already said it i think but game spy is amazing for guides like this. However I did this until you get to Setzer to get him at the lowest possible level. Its a pain. You will have to restart. Usually you put everyone in the back row and use skills and magic. using items and watching your gill is important. I found it fun to do it on my own until i got stuck. good luck I might be able to help with anything before Setzer if you need it.

Well i am really only looking to do this sort of game till i get locke and odin, then i will just progress as normal (yes i know thats a long ways into the game). reason being is because i want to blance how i build my characters, and espers you need for most of them to build up the stat that is most useful to them, is generally in the later half of the game. It's going to take ever bit of paitence i have, but i do need a challenge now and i would just once like to have perfectly built characters.

Quote (Lockes AlterEgo @ 5th January 2008 15:24)
Like for example to make locke a master thief you have to give him a high speed stat.

Speed has no effect on Steal's success rate. All that matters is the stealer's level, the target's level, and if the stealer has the Sneak Ring equipped.

Umm i'm fairly certian that the sneak ring raises his speed. I've always heard that to make him steal better you need to raise his speed. also, i've always had him with high speed in kefkas tower, but not nessicaraly that high of level, and he's never not stolen what the enemy had.

Sneak Ring does raise your speed, yes, but that's not how it helps you steal. The Sneak Ring itself doubles your chance to steal. Speed has no effect at all on the success rate of Steal. It's entirely level-based.

From the Algorithms FAQ available here :

Code
***********
6.6 Steal
***********

1. If the monster has no items, then you automatically fail to steal.

2. If your level is >= 205 (hacks only), you automatically steal.
  (Skip steps 3 through 7)

3. StealValue = Your Level + 50 - Monster's level

4. If StealValue < 0 then you fail to steal.

5. If StealValue >=128 then you automatically steal.  (Skip steps 6 and 7)

6. If you have a Sneak Ring equipped:
     StealValue = StealValue * 2

7. If StealValue <= [0..99] then you fail to steal.

8. You have 1 in 8 chance of getting a rare item; otherwise, you get a common
  item.

9. If the monster doesn't have an item to steal in that slot, then you fail to
steal; otherwise, you successfully steal that item.

Also, the entry for the sneak ring:

Code
*****************
5.15 Sneak Ring
*****************

Doubles your chance of successfully stealing.  Does not affect the chance of
getting a rare item instead of a common item.

It very well may increase speed, but speed has no effect on the formula deciding if you steal or not.

Stamina raises healing from Regen, the Tintinabar, damage from poison and seizure, and increases resistance to instant death. It's not a very useful stat to raise. Locke is best off raising his vigor, and perhaps his magic. If you decide to keep leveling after vigor is maxed, then speed isn't a bad idea, either.

Raise vigor or magic, depending on whether the character uses physical attacks or magic attacks. If you level up high enough that you max them out, then switch to speed.

Magic for Sabin, since all the Blitzes you should use are magical, and Vigor for Edgar, since he's best with a dragoon set-up.

I dont really like the idea for a dragoon, never cared for the job class really, besides i use his machines more than i do his fight command anyways.
