Can you still get Cloud as a secret character in the remake?

yes, and yes. The only things they changed they changed for the better. there are a few slow downs usually on spells. The good easily trounces the bad with a new translation more side story. And playing some battles from a different perspective.

i don't know about the re-make but I
Possible spoilers: highlight to view FFT and (even though I'm a huge fan of FFVII) he's pretty damn useless. I got him as kind of a tack it on the wall towards saying I mastered the game kind of thing, the main problem was just that you get him so late in the game and he's level one that if you wanted him to be a part of your regular party then you had to be prepared for some serious frustration... got him in the original I'm assuming that it would be the same for the re-make but who knows... |

Cloud isn't useless for two reasons: Finishing Touch and Climhazzard. GIve him those, Short Charge, and max out his Speed as much as you can, and he's a solid party member. He's nowhere near as good as a DK or a special swordsman, but he's very solid.

Cloud is a character you have to grow from square one. He's great, as laszlow stated, with Finishing Touch, Climhazzard and Short Charge. His higher level Limits are too slow even with Short Charge. If there was only No Charge normaly.

ah but finishing touch is deadly. and with short-charge, it's quick AND deadly. He's like a ninja.
