11 Monks?

I don't know if this is normal, but I've never had an experience like this before. I just fought a random battle against 11 monks. It wasn't really a challenge, because they all stacked up, and I used Cid's Hallowed Bolt (Lighting Stab or w/e) to mow them down.

Has anyone else run up against something like this?

Anyway, I took pictures because I didn't think I'd ever see something like this again.

It's a rare battle on Grog hill - there are several spots in the game where special random battles can happen; other well-known ones include the 11 Samurai in Yuguo Woods and the Hyrda/Dragon battle on Bariaus Hill.

Yeah, I actually have had this battle, although I can't remember if it was specifically on this map.

I really, really like this aspect of FFT's random encounters. It makes things interesting, challenging, and lets you know that Square was looking to make things enjoyable for the player with these kinds of little details.

Another rare fight like this is in zekius (misspelled) desert, a knight and a minotaur one of which is a guest in your party. Can't remember which one though.
I've fought this fight many times. After discovering it but losing, I fought here over and over to do it again and take my revenge. If you are just grinding and don't have the proper abilities equiped this fight is almost impossible

I loved this battle it proves that Monks can be deadly when they have their best attacks. Rare battles that I yet to win are the Hydra/Dragon one in Bariaus Hill and the Ninja assult in Yuguo Woods

Other Rare battles that I've seen are:
In Germinas Peak, you fight an army of Chemists & Mediators who are all equipped with guns. The Mediators have cruddy Mythril Guns while the Chemists have the rare Stone Gun & Elemental Guns.
&
In Lenalia Plateau, you fight against a team of Calculator

Oooh! I've never gotten the team of Calculators! How well did they do? It's
almost too good to use the Arimeticks; but so great for char customization!

The 11 monks on Grogg Hill are a hard fight if you are leveling a weak party member and are caught off guard. Their earth punch packs a wallop, so keep your people off of the same linear tiles, if possible. Focus fire on two monks per turn to finish off or incapacitate. Res any fallen units of your own immediately, even if you can only get them to low HP and they become a beacon to the monks to kill. If the monks are hitting your decoy that you keep ressing, they aren't hitting the rest of you. wink.gif

They're not that tough coz of there low speed. Course if you kill one of them, they'll all use Raise or even Raise 2 to revive their fallen ally, cast Cure 3 on their weaken allys, They also throw level 3 spells at ur party, course this could also hit their allys or even themselves. The AIs for them is smart though and will cast it if it hurts only your party or if it heals only their party

Fought the 11 monks once, and got my ass kicked, it wasn't that early in the game but I was at a pretty mediocre level for the point I was in the game...

I remeber the Knight and the Minitor Fighting in the desert back to back, Knight being the Guest I think.
I also was scared !@#$-less when I first saw all those monks.
-Does anyone really remeber the a battle with a few dragons fighting against eachother? It was 4 green(guest) dragons agaist 2 blue and 1 red dragon. Its really interesting to watch play out plus its kinda scary to get involved pinch.gif

Those are only 7 Samurai. Which is funny, because of that movie and all.

Oh, boy, I just got this fight!

I'm in the process of getting Bards for my Males, thus I have a team of four Summoners (Ramza + 3 generics, two female) and Orlandeau.

The Monks have only gotten three attacks off, only one of them connecting... Just to be absorbed by Golem. (=

But, of course, if I didn't have Orlandeau, I would have probably restarted the game by now.
