One thing that bothered me about FF was the fact they had a rich mythos of races, histories, professions, cultures and the like...but they never used it until recently. Although now you have Ivalice, Spira and FF7's whole thing, but they're still separate and there's still a lot more ideas that now lay dormant.

So a year ago I was bored and started this. It's a humble homage to the series that entertains and enthralls us all.

It's a story about a man trying to save a young woman from an awful fate. But of course it gets complicated and powerful people get involved. There's noble paladin, witty rats that steal things, delusional bunny girls that kick a**, a lecherous time mage and the long-hidden truth about Gilgamesh that The Man doesn't want you to know.

There's heroics, there's laughs, there's insights, there's even some romance. There's a lot of references, joking or otherwise, to every FF. Even some hilariously revisionist tales about Gilgamesh.

Helpful criticism greatly welcomed.

Sorry for the double post, but you can't attach two things on one post apparently.

A character guide.

Apparently there's been some downloads, but I dunno if I have people still interested. If so, I apologize for my lack of updates then, it's been done for a while.

Anyway, to those still possibly interesting, some more. Mayhap more to come.
Edit
Y'know, a post or PM would be nice, so I know if someone is actually reading or these are just flukes.

I could just be speaking for myself, but I'm generally loath to download attachments of any kind from forums, especially when they contain five or more chapters of a fic at a time. It's a little too much to tackle.

Maybe you might want to repost, starting just with chapter one, in the actual body of your post instead of an attachment. It's a little more user-friendly.

True, but it's uh...really long. I figured I'd just do this and when I get some people hooked, just post the dang thing on a file hosting site and be done with that. But I'll give it a shot.

Chapter One

A rather pleasant view of a viera greeted the guard and certainly lightened the severity of the mood just before the woman’s fist knocked him out cold with a blow to the face. She groaned impatiently as she twitched and trembled like a frightened child. Loosely draped bangles and baubles became kinked with her almost violent twitches as she turned the large human. “Can we leave please?” Her voice sounded no more confident then one would assume from her body’s trembling.
A pensive scowl dawning on his face, Abel nodded. “Remember, no one dies.” He said with the commanding tone that he often spoke when in danger. “Bad enough we have to break out of jail.” Bending down and removing the guard’s shield and sword, he hefted them as he stood up. “Arm yourselves.” Holding the shield aloft and practiced for a second bracing his arm and throwing himself forward, the classic shield charge. “But we kill no one.”
The other human, who was not built like a monolith like Abel, sighed. “They lock us up for no damn reason…and we can’t do anything to them.” He brushed aside a bit of hair from his hear mockingly.
Abel’s eyes darted to the other human and he scowled. “Quiet Kyo. If it wasn’t for your lechery, we wouldn’t be in here.” The paladin looked especially imposing in white and shimmering full plate and scowling with anger and disgust.
In response, Kyo shirked into his robes and trembled just a bit.
The rather lithe and almost delicate looking viera hefted a large halberd and strapped a massive axe to her back and smiled. “Hmm, like?”
Turning to her, Abel nodded with a polite smile. But he turned to tactics in a quick moment. “We have lost all of your weapons Maya. Keep an eye out for replacements.”
Maya nodded. “C’mon Mogid.” She said calmly despite the fact she looked anything but calm. “It’s safe for now.” She then returned to scrounging up any weaponry she could find in the basement.
A small and rather fluffy looking moogle crept out from within one of the cells. He looked a little nervous, and brushed his grey fur to try and hide it. “Sorry kupo.”
Nodding as he glanced at his allies, Abel sighed in thought. “Getting out is the objective, but getting our equipment and the lad’s inventions back are very important though.” He stepped to the forefront. “We have to at least try getting our equipment back, but no unnecessary risks.”
The party fell in line and stood behind Abel, each at the ready.
Word had gotten out that there was a prison break by the time the party entered the main hall of the castle.
“I’m gonna be teleporting out of here if they aren’t going to show us to the door.” Kyo said as he groaned, his fear coming through clearly.
“No.” The viera said as she glanced harshly at him. “Pull your weight and help protect Mogid.” She stepped to the side, sheltering the young moogle from at least being seen hopefully.
When the viera displayed her fighter’s talent by brandishing the massive halberd with surprising skill and dexterity, the guards paused and shirked back for a moment. But one rather gutsy, if not a little naïve and new to the job, shouted out foolishly. “Stop!” Although his charge would have been considered courageous, the viera put a stop to his charge with a deft whack to the head with the halberd’s blunt end.
The other now charged forward, and a melee broke out. Little blood was being spilled however, as both parties wanted to leave only knock out instead of kill. The blunt sides of swords and bottoms of pole arms became the offenses of choice.
Although he was unarmed and unarmored, Kyo was not defenseless from attacks. To the casual and unknowledgeable opponent, it looked as his effortless dodging of attacks was impossible. To be fair, those opponents would be right, as Kyo’s control of time magic was impressive at the very least. A casting of haste on himself and slow on those that stood against him made his reactions much quicker to the naked and untrained eye.
The young moogle on the other hand, was defenseless. Moogles were one of the smallest races, and Mogid was rather small for a moogle for his age. Standing as best he could between Maya and Abel as best he could without disrupting them, he was terrified. No guard noticed the moogle and tried to strike him because of Maya and Abel’s excellent skills. The only thing he could do if one were to get past them would be to scamper away.
After a few of the guards had been subdued, a taunting holler could be heard from down the hall. A nezumi, a humanoid with some features distantly related to rats, sprinted toward the melee brazenly. Upon a second glance, it could be seen that he was carrying something metal and being chased by a trio of guards. Although his race is one of the most agile known races, he was quickly subdued with a daring tackle from one of the guards who then proceeded to vent some anger on him physically.
Throwing himself forward with his shield aloft, the paladin knocked another guard to the ground before a flail of his arm pushed aside another. Abel groaned, the nezumi had now started to howl in pain from his beating. Although the guards likely had a reason for detaining him, but the wailing stuck a chord in his conscious and memory. He knew not the nezumi’s name or his purpose, but the paladin knew that he could not leave him to this fate.
