Here's some EVEN MORE DECISIVE evidence that those three aforementioned characters are in: trailer goodness. ROFL, they turned Dudley's 2nd Super into a full Dempsey Roll.

...and not, say, Necro...

sad.gif Say what ya want about Necro's design, but I always found him helluva lotta fun to play. Yeah yeah, I figured Necro was never gonna happen (I imagine Dhalsim got in the way, though Urien would have been a nice concession biggrin.gif ), but I just can't get myself to play IV due in large part to the characters. Either I plain just don't like 'em, or, in the case of the 3rd Strike characters (who are admittedly fine choices), don't really fit my style of play.

Also, uh, what the heck did they do with Dudley's voice huh.gif ?

Dunno. Third Strike was almost eleven years ago. For some reason they couldn't use the same voice actor. Looking up Francis Diakowsky on IMDb shows no voice credits after the year 2000.

And, well, character designs, I just felt that too many of the characters in SF3 were both outlandish and low-tier, which made them both not fit into the aesthetic of the series that I had grown up with in Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha and also simply not worth using due to balance issues. I'm pretty sure Necro is a mid-tier character, so in that respect I'm talking more about people like Q and Twelve.

Whatever. The more I play Street Fighter IV, the more I want to get better at it. It has a robust roster of characters, many of whom I really like. It has a fighting system that is both accessible and deep enough to easily separate neophytes from veterans from experts. Its visuals, say whatever you want about them, are extremely stylized and expressive. The gameplay is extremely tight and as responsive as your controller. It's slowly creeping up on SF Alpha 3 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves as my favorite fighting game of all time.

That Capcom would change the voice actor is unsurprising (they did so with all the other returning characters, after all). I was mainly reacting to how he now sounds more like a younger, less manly punk.

I grew up with SFII, as well, and one reason why I liked 3rd Strike so much was because the 3S characters greatly differed from II and, in my opinion at least, weren't quite as cliched (dignified dandy boxer >>>> Mike Tyson wanna-be thug, I says). Unfortunately, I feel Capcom's direction for IV was a step back, but perhaps the majority of fans like it that way.

Borderline at best. My understanding is he was always mainly pegged as a low-tier character (perhaps higher ranked than all others, but still). If the issue was balance, then yeah, I guess that's just one more reason on top of many others to not include him in IV.

I really want to play SF4, and SSF4 for that matter, but to be honest, I'm taking a full-on "Starcraft 2" approach to it. And that would be: avoid it like the plague, because when it gets you, you will never be free.

It figures that when I finally don't have the time for video games, the tastier they all become.

I'm with Laszlow on this one. Street Fighter II may have had cliched characters, but I think in many ways that was the point. The World Warrior was all about bringing fighting styles from around the world together into one tournament. That's what made street fighter interesting.

The cast of Street Fighter III seems mostly like a gallery of Darkstalker rejects (Q, Twelve, Necro, Oro, Gill). Very few of the SFIII originals represented any martial art.

In my opinion there were very few characters created for SFIII are worth bringing into IV. Dudley and Ibuki I feel are pretty much the best choices they could have made.

Time to get back on the ol' SF pre-announcement train. All this info comes from various sources, where I mostly found here.

The 10th new addition to the character roster will almost certainly be what the original rumors stated: a grappler named Hakan. NowGamer.com describes him as "a huge red Turkish wrestler who lathers himself with oil during fights" and "[sporting] some of the most hilarious Ultras we've ever seen."

There are going to be two new color schemes for each character. Color scheme #11 will be a heavily stylized, inky version that evokes the very first trailers for SF4 and most of the concept art for each character ("SF: Okami Edition"). #12 will be a penciled version, similar to the sketches in reveal trailers for the 9 new characters.

Overall, the three newly revealed characters are very similar to, well, themselves in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, with a few key exceptions. For example, Dudley regains his Dive Attack from 2nd Impact but loses his ducking punch from Third Strike, and one of Ibuki's Ultras is one of her Supers from 2nd Impact. SF4 playtesters of the SF3 characters have had very positive reactions.

Hakan has finally been revealed, and he hit IGN first, of all places.

Hakan trailer

Even the music is goofy. Hakan is easily one of the wackiest characters in SF history. Right up there with Necro, R. Mika, Dhalsim, and what have you. Those oil ultras are... completely nuts.

Yea...he's pretty disturbing. I love how half of that trailer was him using that one nasty ultra on every character.

Yea...he's pretty disturbing. I love how half of that trailer was him using that one nasty ultra on every character.

What I find *more* disturbing is how that Ultra does reasonable damage for an Ultra (from the videos I've seen, it does at least 350-400 with a half meter), and how it basically will punish 95% of jump-ins. If you're fighting a Hakan with meter and that Ultra equipped, you probably should avoid jumping near him at all. As someone that probably jumps way too much, that is worrisome.

But rofl waffle it's going to be fun to troll people with that. It'll be the new Super Taunt.

Stumbled on the Hakan trailer by accident. He's absolutely nuts.

I'm about half and half with SSF4 at this point. I could live without it; the 10 new characters didn't do anything to overly entice me.

Mine arrived in the mail an hour or two ago. I'll be hitting it hard this evening. But for now, here are the 35 new alternate costumes. My favorites are Cowboy Ken, Queen (the band) Dudley, and Bling Balrog.

Super Street Fighter IV is made of awesomeness. I'm playing as Hakan (on the 360, btw), I've only won three matches online so far, though. But I'm still training...

And IMO Zangiefs alt costume > everyone else's
