So are they gonna exaggerate facial expressions and whatnot on everyone for when they get hit and such? Um...ew. There's something comical about that expression on Guile's face that just doesn't sit well with me. Same thing with Ryu in that demo video. Oh well...
Also, amnesia is a bad gimmick (or at least an overused one), but with fighting games, I care more about gameplay than story, anyway, so I'm hoping for the best in that regard. -------------------- |

The music in that interview suggests they may be going back to the old character themes.

Akuma lol what a goober.
Unfortunately, he's so inconveniently popular, I'd say it'd just be a bad tactical move to leave him out. I mean, if he made it into SF3, then there really isn't much more to say. But I still stand by my distaste for the developing visual style. Maybe I just have to get used to it. -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Threadcromancy in progress.
I have just yesterday played this game for the first time. I'm giddy with excitement. The gameplay is tight and dynamic, the old characters kick behinds, while new people are either totally awesome (although Abel does strike me as being uncomfortably similiar to KoF's Clark) or superbly funny ![]() Also, Gouken. ![]() Seth is unnessecarily annoying, rather than overpowering (although he DID command-throw me when I was performing the Shun Goku Satsu on him >.< ) and I think, that for some incomprehensible reason, Capcom is trying to recreate the SNK boss syndrome withing their game. So, yeah ![]() -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. I'm a big fan. Abel strikes me more like a combination of Alex from SF3 and Fei Long from SF2, with Ken's roll from SF Alpha 3. But really, my favorite of the new characters is Rufus, the hugely obese speed character.
This game is now my new #1 temptation to get a PS3. Sorry, FF XIII, Ratchet & Clank Future, and Disgaea 3, you guys just don't matter anymore. -------------------- |

My man Zangief looks incredible in this game! I love watching videos of him. Unfortunately, I only own a Wii and I will never purchase a non-Nintendo console, so I will sadly never get to play this game.
Still looks amazing, though. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

Tier lists are already out for the game, but the silliest part is that every character is really, really good. The Gamespot opening day tournament was dominated by a middle-tier character, and you can find vids of any of the arcade characters kicking serious ass. This game is much, much, MUCH more well-balanced than any other Capcom game I've ever played. For the record, most people are rating Sagat as the best character in the game. Again.
My biggest gripe is their character selection. I love the SF2 cast, and I'm surprised at how much I like the five new characters (not including Seth, who I haven't played with yet). But their choices for inclusion in the home version are a little puzzling. Cammy and Fei Long make sense, since they were the most popular of the four new challengers in Super 2, but Gen, Dan, and Rose? There was more fan support for those three than for any character in Third Strike? I would have liked to see just about any 3TS character in to replace Dan or Rose, but I guess that's just me. Right now I'm planning on maining Rufus and Ryu. Ryu was my main in Super Turbo (along with Cammy) and Third Strike (along with Dudley), and I'm sticking with him. Rufus is just too awesome to pass up. -------------------- |

What's the update on this game? I've been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to get my hands on it, but I haven't really heard much news beyond what I can read online. Sadly, the fighting game scene at my school is unconventionally scarce (even if you count the sparse and subpar Smash games).
How are the characters, more importantly, the new ones? How are the new mechanics? How is the balance? -------------------- I find your lack of faith disturbing... |

Quote (Kappa the Imp @ 10th March 2009 18:57) How are the characters, more importantly, the new ones? How are the new mechanics? How is the balance? The game is surprisingly well balanced (as, I think, someone already mentioned in this thread). The mechanics are an evolution of the SSF2T with a dash of SF3: You have one super bar, consisting of 4 EX bars, throws and taunts are like in SF3, but the MP+MK is used for the focus attack instead of what it used to (an overhead? I never bothered with it.) there's dashing. And there's the revenge bar for Ultra moves, charged by taking damage. It all flows very well and works nicely. The new characters are cool (except maybe the fact that I can't understand what El Fuerte does for the life of me - he runs around a lot.) Abel is mostly compared to Alex, but I have a feeling of playing Clark from KoF when I play him and he's my second main char in SF4 (after Ken). C. Viper is a bit of trickster and mixup character. Rufus is...weird. He's well, a hilariously obese speed character (and his belly is very well animated). Gouken is heavy on defense (at least I have the best results playing him that way), with both horizontal and anti-air fireballs and a vertical tatsumaki. -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. Never again ![]() Eh, to each his own. I stopped playing Third Strike on my own time because about half the roster is completely worthless. I've been playing a LOT of SF IV recently, despite not owning a system for it. I'm still getting used to interrupting attacks with focus and I'm still terrible at diagonal D-pad shifts (i.e. Guile's ultra and Fei Long's chicken wing) but I can succeed well enough with my own fighting game experience. The characters I use the most are Ryu, Rufus, Fei Long, and Chun-Li. -------------------- |

I'm maining Vega, but sometimes I switch for Rufus and occasionally I play as Sagat. |

Chronologically, this game takes place in between Street Fighter II and III, so I guess it makes sense that none of the newcomers from III appear in this game. I never liked any of 'em anyways. Cammy is my main.

The characters I use the most are Ryu, Rufus, Fei Long, and Chun-Li. Since saying this, my playstyle has changed A LOT. The characters I use the most are Blanka and E. Honda, although I still love messing around with Rufus and Chun-Li. I'm a born-again Blanka superfan. The more I play SF IV, the more I want it for my own. It might even be moving into Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Garou: Mark of the Wolves territory as one of my absolute all-time favorite fighting games. Or any kind of game, for that matter. And speaking of SSF2, Super Street Fighter IV is in our future. The boys at Capcom made the big announcement earlier today at TGS. Right now the rumor is that there are going to be 8 (EIGHT!) new characters, including oldschooler T. Hawk and newcomer TKD artist Juri from the YouTube video, plus new moves and new gameplay modes. The best bit, for me, is that every character will be given a second Ultra attack, with both active at the same time and given different input commands. Names like Psycho Punisher, Breathless, and Yogi Shangri-La were thrown around. But, it should be noted: Super Street Fighter IV will be on a new disk, and is not a downloadable add-on to SF IV. There could be extra content unlocked with a SF IV save on the same hard drive, but the game will be marketed on a seperate disc, separate arcade cabinet, and separate everything. Sorry, people that hate buying multiple disks of the same game (which includes most people), this is Capcom for ya. -------------------- |

Supposedly Dee Jay has been confirmed as well.
Hopefully they'll speed the action up a little (or will that be saved for SSFIV Turbo? ![]() So does this mean nobody will be playing regular SFIV online after Super comes out? Hardcore SF fans will buy SSFIV, and new players will buy it too, leaving people who play only occasionally out in the cold... |

We got three more character confirmations: Cody, Guy, and Adon. Cody and Guy are from the Final Fight series of side-scrollers, and Adon is original to the Street Fighter Alpha series (SF Zero in Japan). All three were playable characters in Street Fighter Alpha 3. The trailer below shows both of them, along with T.Hawk, Juri, and Dee Jay.
Trailer Goodness The other big rumor(s) about yet-to-be-revealed characters are Makoto, Dudley, and Ibuki from Street Fighter 3 and a newcomer named Hakan, a grappler from the middle east (a few people are saying either Egypt or Saudi Arabia is his home country). This is all rumor, but the same rumors predicted the previous six new characters, so it has a bit of weight to it. -------------------- |

1. Cody and Guy are instant awesome for me.
2. Dee Jay is not. 3. I would be thrilled to see Makoto, since I love playing her in SFIII 4. I'm absolutely in love with the new Juri design. Or is she a new kid and not part of the Juni/Juri duo? -------------------- "I fell off the mountain of words at around the 10,000ft mark. She is NOT one of the Juni/Juli dolls, but rather a new character entirely. The kanji that they use to spell her name is different, and Juri is a Korean that practices TKD while Juli was brainwashed by Bison. Plus, the reason she was called Juli is because all of the dolls other than Cammy are named after months of the year. The supplementary artbooks and comics about SF Alpha show information about all twelve dolls.

Gametrailers has Four nifty videos out that detail the basic moveset of Adon, Cody, Juri, and Guy. Juri seems like a jumpy monster that can chain combo anything, but Cody seems to be the guy that most suits my playstyle (heavy, punishing, anti-fireball).
