I'm trying to get this thing to spawn.
What I know: You have to get a Lich to critical health in the Southfall Passage in Raithwall's Tomb in FFXII and wait for it to divide, but... How do I get a Lich to spawn to begin with? I mean, besides the first three that spawn only once when you make the green waystone work. How the hell am I supposed to get more Liches to spawn? And when I do get them to spawn, how do I get them to divide? I get them down to about 100 HP left and they spam me with Oil, Fire, and Dark. They never divide! Help me! -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

As with most Rare Game, it comes down to luck I'm afraid.
There are several places where Liches spawn in the South passage; walk around and follow the corridors and search all the rooms basically. The Liches will pop up when you get close enough. There's no surefire way to get the Cultsworn Lich, as it randomly spawns when a Lich divides, which happens when a Lich gets into critical status. It will only spawn from a Lich dividing for the first time by the way. It took me a while to get it, I'd explored most of the Southfall passage before it eventually spawned. Just luck, as I say (think it might be something like a 1 in 10 chance when a Lich divides). Oh, and if a Lich simply refuses to divide, might be best to just kill it and move on. You can always travel 2 zones away and return to respawn all the monsters. This post has been edited by bam on 26th October 2007 14:15 |

Except here's the problem: I walked through the Southfall Passage back and forth like ten times. Not a single Lich, of either the regular or Cultsworn variety, spawned. Eventually I killed all the cockatrices, skeletons, and metal head dudes in the area and just started walking back and forth for hours and no Liches.
Is there some condition that makes REGULAR Liches spawn? Or do I have to clear the Tomb and come back at some later point? And if they somehow DO spawn, is there some trick to getting them to divide other than getting them down to 100 HP? -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

Well, the only condition that is necessary for regular Liches to spawn is for both the North and South Teleport Stones to be activated. If you've just got to Raithwall and have only cleared the South passage then this might be the problem; as for me, I found the Cultsworn Lich much later in the game, when I was specifically hunting for Rare Game.
Also, it seems that the probability of this Rare monster appearing when a Lich divides is in fact 20%, so not too bad. As for getting a Lich to divide, no, there are no tricks and they only do it when in HP critical status (they have something in the region of 1'150 HP so yes, you need to get it down to 100-150 or so). Might be easier to do when you have Gravity spells much later in the game, I suppose. Hope that helps. This post has been edited by bam on 26th October 2007 22:33 |

Alright, I actually got a Cultsworn Lich.
Now, I have another question. Does the Orthos have a Slime Oil you can steal? I stole from about 20 Orthoses and the only thing I'm getting is Phoenix Downs. -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

Yes, the Orthros does have a Slime Oil, though it's obviously a Rare Steal. You're much more likely to get either a Phoenix Down or a Caramel.
