Quote (orinocou @ 11th October 2007 23:27) Quote (Strideo @ 11th October 2007 13:26) I could see why people would think it was grey though. It's so pale. A lot of cosplayers wear grey wigs when cosplaying Locke. In the Final Fantasy VI Technology Demo for SGI they went totally brown with Locke's hair so there is some official precedent for portraying him with brown hair. This is actually the first time I've seen this video all the way through. I've only ever seen screencaps. But yeah, you have a point. Locke has brown hair. Also, that he gets blasted back within the first 20 seconds of the fight is really comical to watch. Then again, I guess we shouldn't take the coloring of the characters in this video *too* seriously, because Terra there is sporting blonde hair. But whatever. And to be fair, yeah, I can understand how people can see grey hair in those pictures of Locke above. I guess it's sort of a "grey" area, pun intended. Well of coarse this demo is by no means the definitive source on hair color but I remembered it right away when the question of Locke with brown hair came up. I guess somebody at Square thought he should have dark brown hair too. ![]() On a side note, it always cracks me up a little when at the end of the demo Terra, Locke, and Shadow ride off together on Bahamut's back. This demo did serve as an early look at Sqaure's plans to make the summoning spells with all the complex animation and over the top special effects (like blowing up the background). On the manish issue, part of what i was noting was the fact that (and yes i realize this may sound a bit sexist but it isnt.) she doesnt have a pronounced chest. You hit there are feature there but they dont really seem to fit with the rest of the body. I'm not saying to have to tone out her chest to make her look more womenly, but you have to condsider what she was wearing in the game. It was a more leatard (sp?) than armor, which means it would of stuck out more in some areas and clung more in other areas. Plus her hips are a bit wide for a womens hips. A the need to flow more with the body rather look like they are just pasted onto her. I will say you gave her the "bed head" feature very nicely. Her hair is perfect. Also i know this wasnt in the game but this would make it look a bit more realalistic, she's a soilder so she probably has a scabbard for a sword or a dagger, a bag of some sort to hold items in, and probably head and body armor.
As for the gun thing, i have not seen the ending of FF6 on the psx i was unaware of those sences, so cool. I think part of the reason though many of the main characters dont have guns is that it's a realtively new technology that was recently (in game time that is) rediscovered , which means it probably wasnt cheap to make, or was not a well mastered skill. -------------------- Don't fear the reaper! The reason you give for the scarcity of firearms seems pretty believable. I'm going to stand over there with you. ![]() The image I have of Terra is that she has a very thin, slight figure, almost as if she was not given enough food to eat while growing up in Vector. I am trying to draw her with thin limbs, and felt that a smaller chest would be more congruent with that body type. It's funny that you say her hips look wide; I was kind of trying to make them narrow. I'll pay more attention to that. Celes, on the other hand, is going to be made to look like she has not been starved while growing up in Vector. But she isn't going to appear in the comic until we are all old men and women. ![]() Another reason that her figure might look a bit manly is because she is wearing a soldier's winter coat that was designed for men to wear. So it kind of tends to cover up any curves. -------------------- |

Interesting thought about the rarity of FF6 guns, though in a way some of Edgar's tools were guns, like the autocrossbow and bio blaster.

Yeah, sometimes Edgar just seems like one big anachronism. One big, useless anachronism.
Or, his inventions, rather. Several smaller, useless anachronisms. ...I like that word. -------------------- |

How so? I like him as a player character. The noiseblaster was one of the most useful items in the game. Hits all enemies with confuse and it costs nothing.

Quote (orinocou @ 5th October 2007 03:40) And as anyone who's tried it can tell you, Edgar is a b***h to draw. TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN. Well, maybe, but...holy crud. I agree with you 110%. This looks great! I've worked on comics before, so I can fully appreciate how much work must have gone into this - each panel is like a drawing of its own. I'm a hardcore believer in giving comic artists of any sort due credit. I especially love the attention you gave to the backgrounds, and the arrangement of the panels is effective. I don't think you should worry about how Terra looks. I'm a firm believer in each artist having his/her own take on characters, and I think if everyone tried to draw them all the same way, it'd be hecks of boring. Your "mannish" interp doesn't deviate from any official details, and I think it actually adds to it to display her as someone who isn't really concerned about makeup or looking attractive. Because, well. While talking to Edgar gives us the idea that she's a nice-looking girl, who's to say that has anything to do with eyelashes? So, admirable work, keep it up. I seriously will be floored if you manage to draw through the entire game. (PS - Incidentally, I've always stuck to the notion of greyish-white-haired Locke, but this is fine, too. I browse japanese fansites constantly, and I have *literally* seen him drawn with red hair, green hair, purple hair, black hair, white hair, silver hair, and various shades of brown and blonde. No exaggeration. Our thief is rather infamous in the fandom for his volatile colour. ![]() -------------------- "You're so beautiful! ...You're a man...?!" -man in Troia bar, to Cecil |

As soon as I viewed the comic, I just HAD to log in to say this. Great work- text and illustration!
I agree you've made Terra's face look somewhat masculine both in features and form, particularly at the beginning. But I don't see any problem in this as long as the other female characters aren't going to look identical to her. Even though they weren't very detailed, you've made Vicks, Wedge and the guards' faces look distinct from each other. I think that's very well done. I also like the layout and the detail in the background. Enjoyed reading it so far. I look forward to its completion! ![]() -------------------- Random game quote of the day: "Wilt thou change this world... Or wilt thou change thyself?" (Water Dragon, Chrono Cross) |

@ Frozen_Aura: No doubt Edgar is one of the strongest fighters of the game, I agree on that. But I didn't find much use for his crazy inventions. I mean, the bio-blaster was cool to look at in it's day, but I rarely used his "Tools" command once Magicite became available. Plus giving our enemies symptoms like "confusion" or "poison" wasn't always a 100% accurate hit. If'n I remember correctly. Mind, it's been like 30 years since I've played FF6.
![]() @ Strideo: Hella yes, there's gonna be a Moogle brawl! Who would read the comic if I didn't have at least one of those? @PrinceofDamcyan: Knowing Edgar, I'm not sure his attentions towards Terra are an indication that she's particularly good-looking. He *does* have a reputation for hitting on anything female that moves, the slimeball. Just had to give my two cents on character hair color (as per usual). I too think of Locke as having brown hair -- the biggest reason being that there are TOO MANY BLONDS in the game. Lightish-brown hair, though. Not Cyan-colored.
Fascinating, right? Edit Also, Orin: "brunet." ![]() Edit EDIT 2: Worry not, orinocou. I worked on an FF6 novelization for five years, and it took that long for someone to point out to me that I, too, had "Imperial soldiers" chasing Terra in the first chapter. I nearly died of the shame. Just do find-replace on the comic and you should be fine! x_x This post has been edited by L. didnt edgar referr to kefka in the orginal as the court jester? i think you should make mention of that when they meet and have kefka say something like "I was promoted to court mage you dim wit" or something along those lines. Anyways are you going to do small little four pannel strips that have nothing to do with the story like they did for kingdom hearts?

Thanks for the idea, Locke A.E. It'll be fun to include random jokes and asides in the dialogue. Though I don't recall Edgar referring to Kefka as such. Then again, I'm going by the very old SNES version's script.
And yeah, I might include little gag strips here and there. Thing is, I need some ideas first. And I'm really bad at stuff like that. -------------------- |

In the scene where Locke gets introduced, he's supposed to come in wearing a winter coat, which he takes off and hangs. But drawing people taking off coats is hard, so I decided start by drawing Locke with his coat still on. Underneath, he is supposed to be wearing his usual blue jacket... don't know if that is apparent here.
Y'all are a pretty honest bunch, so I'm relying on someone to let me know if this looks like a woman's coat. Because you know how I have issues drawing gender. ![]() -------------------- |
