I named my characters on my first file:

Terra -- Lucy
Locke -- Tom
Edgar -- Aldric (I just thought of it...sounds kinda kingly...
Sabin -- Rick
Shadow -- Shadow (had to leave it, it's so cool!)
Celes -- Marley
Cyan -- Argus
Gau -- Ferus (the Latin word for "wild")
Setzer -- Setzer (too cool to change)
Mog -- Moogly
Strago -- Merlin
Relm -- Lily
Umaro -- Yeto (a yeti from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
Gogo -- Mimi

On another file, I named all of my characters "Bob".

It was funny when I had to choose which character's story to follow, and they said something like:

"Bob and Bob race toward Narshe, protecting Banon along the way. How is Bob faring, after leaping into the river after the battle with Ultros? And what of Bob, who has snuck into South Figaro to distract the empire?"

That's not exactly right, I know...

But it was so funny, because I couldn't tell who was talking, and who they were talking to sometimes.

This game broke my old tradition of naming characters after myself, though some of them aren't too creative and are mostly close to the default names. Like this:
Terra=Kiarra (I used to be writing a book where my main character was named Kiara and she was a powerful magic user)
Locke=Jack (after a guy that was my best friend a few years ago)
Edgar=Edward (hey I know it's pointless but the only two Edgars I could think of were Poe and this weird cartoon bald evil dude in a Disney movie and Edward just sounds more kingly)
Sabin=Seth (I had the urge to Americanize every name I saw, and I always liked the name Seth and actually named a plant that in 7th grade lol)
Celes=Skye (she just looks like a Skye to me and I love that name)
Shadow=Shade (also dumb but Shadow sounded like the dog's name)
Cyan=Chang (the Doman music had me thinking Chinese)
Gau=Foxy (completely random but it fits him)
Strago=Caesar (after Julius Caesar)
Relm=Ariana (I was going to name her Phoenix but I saw her and thought Ariana. Also I made a comic book character with that name who was always sassy and tough.)
Setzer=Steven (more Americanization)
Mog=Momo (Avatar nostalgia)
Gogo=Dyllan (spin off of female Clique character)
Umaro=Urg (I was worn out by the time I named him)

The very first playthrough, I kept their names, because I was afraid that I would never remember their real names. Like many people, I use the names of other FF characters, too. Some playthrough, I should name them with random nouns/verbs/pronouns. I think that "General She" has a certain appeal to it.

Edgar: King (it's kinda funny when they call him "King King")
Sabin: ...huh?
Shadow: Killer
I left Celes's the same...I wish I could've named her "General, so they'd call her "General General," but, of course, there's not enough space
Cyan: Sir (Sir Sir)
Gau: ...? (Don't know why)
Setzer: ugly
Mog: Moogle (Moogle the moogle)
Strago: gramps
Relm: a girl

If you like those styles of names, give Celes the name Major, (General Major)

But, I've never gone too far outta the way as far as names go, but I did go with...

Terra: Earth
Lock: Pick
Edgar: Engard
Sabin: Monk
Shadow: Peter (as in Peter Pan, cuz of his shadow)
Celes: Runess
Cyan: Sam (Samurai)

Omigosh! I love those. Of course I wasn't very original. I chose characters from Magic Knight Rayearth the first time, people in my life the second time and the third was characters from the Musical Wicked!

Edgar - Poe or Kappa (Poe as a reference to Edgar Alan Poe, and Kappa because I like giving him the Kappa equipment and then turn him into one.)
Sabin - Bamse (The main character of a Swedish comic for children.)
Cyan - Asia (After the character Master Asia in G Gundam)
Setzer - Betway (A gambling site I saw on a commercial)
Mog - Moguts (Mog + guts )
Shadow - Blaze (On a lot of different websites, I'm known as BlazeShadow, so yeah.)
Strago - DrWily (After the Mega man villain)
Gogo - LvN (The initials for a username that a friend of mine uses. I wanted to name a character after him, and he wanted Gogo. Just as I called Shadow Blaze)

Anyone not mentioned has its original name.

All I do to rename them is decapitalize the names so it looks more natural in dialogues.

I do that too. I wish that you could do that for the NPCs bc all of the them would be the same way.
