Only party members that leave the party for good give Decants. So with the exception of Cecil's "DARKNESS" you cannot get any Decants from Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, Kain, or Edge as that is your final party.
You can get Tellah's moves yes, and the twins, and Cid's, Edward's, FuSoYa's and Yang's as they all leave for good or die. I got the part about those guys but what do you mean by what you said about giving weaker abilities to characters that leave for good eariler to get better ones? I didn't try to avoid it, sorry. You give decants to get decants. And each character only gives 3. Here's an example. Edward has 3 special commands, HIDE, SAIVE, and BARDSONG in that order I think. Now you get him into your party and give him decants. If you give him 1 you will get HIDE, 2 will get you HIDE and SAIVE, while 3 will get you all three of his commands. For the most part the unit's best commands are their last one, which means trading in sometimes good decants for better ones later. Once you beat the game and save you activate a NEW FILE+ in which you can play the game from the begining. Each time you play through the characters keep the commands given in earlier playthroughs. This is esspecially useful if you think about it. Let's pretend that in the last playthrough you gave Edward 3 decants to get his commands. In the NEW file he already has 3 decants, the ones you had to give him you don't have to, and he will still give you his 3. -------------------- My Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lions Avatar The Brave Knight Name: Eirikir Lashius (Ramza) Role: Knight Age: 23 AA1: Arts of War AA2: Guts R: Counter S: Concentration M: Move +3 W: Durandal O: Reverie Shield H: Grand Helm B: Grand Armor A: Brigand's Gloves |

Eric has the right idea, but he's a bit off. Normally, you get Decants by either one of two ways: by obtaining them after a certain party members will leave the party (you get Gilbert/Edward's Decant abilities when you meet him again at Toroia Castle) or after defeating certain bosses (like the Four Elemental Fiends).
Each character will automatically give one Decant Ability upon their departure from their party, regardless if you ever equipped any Decants on them. This means that if you don't want to give Cid any new Decants, you will only get one Decant from him: the Scan ability. But, should you choose to give him two new Decants, you will get three Decants from Cid rather than one. This is true for all other characters, save for the twins. You can give one Decant to each of the Twins and still get all 3 abilities that they would normally give you. The final five each have unique abilities that cannot be Decants for other characters to use: Cecil's Cover, Kain's Jump, Rosa's Pray and Aim, Rydia's Summon, and Edge's Steal, Ninja, and Throw. Hope that clears things up a bit since it could be tragic to give Edward 3 Decants when he only really needs 2. -------------------- "You underestimate the strength of a Jedi's mind, Brejik. Okay that clears up alot actually thank you. My next question is does anyone have a list of these abilities you can get? i've heard that there are 30 of them in total.

At least you get a lot of bad decants that you can trade in for better ones! Otherwise I'd be devastated about planning out what to give.

(though hearing of a "official" EU/AUS release in the area of late '08 wouldnt surprise me..) |
