...Me, I just go with the default names. Actually, in my first playthrough I came up with a bunch of names that are too lame to disclose (Except that I name Relm "Kagami" which sounded kind of nice).

Terra - Denise Locke - Zephir Cyan - Josh Shadow - Soup Edgar - Neal Sabin - Hawk Celes - Kappa Strago - Dave (Should really be Josh.) The first time I played Final Fantasy VI,

Edgar - Lenin Sabin - Stalin Cyan - Aticus (couldn't put Atticus as the max is a six letter name) Shadow - Clyde -------------------- I don't like signatures. |

Gohan - Locke The only two characters I renamed. I always rename the main character "Gohan" and my favorite female character after myself.  edit: Oh, and in FFVI, I renamed the characters from CYAN to Cyan etc. because all capitals bother me. the first time playing an RPG, (FFX) i accidentally made the character's name my own. tidus, as i have mentioned before, is not exactly my favorite character. since then, i have been completely paranoid with naming characters anything other than their original names. it even bugged me when garnet changed to dagger.

The only time I really renamed characters was in FFVI I renamed all of my characters after the symbols of the Zodiac. So Terra was Aries, Locke was Pisces, Sabin was Virgo, so on... Thought it was kewl when i was 12

I kept some of the characters the same. Or none.
Locke-Plain Terra-Delila Celes-Verona Edgar-DDD(Get the reference, King in a game only spelled wrong) Sabin-Seven Gau-Gau Cyan-Strike Shadow-Shadow Mog-Mog Umaro-Umaro Relm-Easel Setzer-Setzer Gogo-Vute Strago-Waffle Before you ask why i named Strago Waffle, its only because waffles didn't fit. To me, it doesn't feel right naming them anything other than the default names. That's who they are. That, and I'm too lazy to come up with different names.

I still love what my friend did. She renamed all of her characters "Bob" once. And it was most amusing at the last battle, when a whole screen of "Bobs" showed up to be chosen for the last battle... XD
Once I renamed all of the characters as "characters from other FFs with simlar character/classes." Which made it like... Locke - Zidane Celes - Freya Shadow - Rinoa (because of the dog...?) Edgar - Porom Sabin - Parom Terra - Vivi Setzer - Cid (I think because of the airships) Umaro - Khimari Relm - Eiko Strago - Strago Gau - Gau Mog - Mog Other than that, I usually leave them as their default names, sans THE CAPSLOCKED NAMES OF DOOM. I have to get rid of the CAPSLOCKED NAMES. ^^ |

Ironically, I started to rename guys a few weeks ago, when playing FF8. It's strange how you can start liking a guy just because his name is Lenny. Anyway, I only remember some highlights of FF6.
Edgar: McCoy (I love Law & Order) Sabin: Lenny (Again, Law & Order) Gau: Ed (from Cowboy Bebop) Shadow: Abe (Lincoln was too long) Locke: Nil (he means nothing to me) Umaro: Stupid (funny and true.) And yes, I named one character after me, that being Setzer. When the game first came out, I remember renaming all the character, but over time, and as I replayed the game, I just named most of them the default name. But these three character I always rename. I just don't see them as anything else.
Cyan - Oho (I don't know why or how, but he has always been Sir Oho) Celes - Venus (I'm into Greek and Roman Mythology) Shadow - Fantom (Because Phantom wouldn't fit. I like "Phantom of the Opera) -------------------- Thank you Link, but our Triforce is in another castle. |

Code TERRA - VOIP LOCKE - CORKY EDGAR - LEFTY SABIN - LEFTY (ooh yeah, brotherly confusion.) CELES - CELERY (I was hungry.) CYAN - THOU (LEFTY: "I'm not Mr. Thou, he is!") SHADOW - TURKEY (What? It was Thanksgiving.) GAU - WEASEL (fits...) SETZER - SETZER (couldn't change, too cool.) STRAGO - DEUTCH (misspelled, but "Deutsch" wouldn't fit.) RELM - GWEEEM (DEUTCH: "GWEEEM!!!!!" Ah, good times.) MOG - OHSNAP GOGO - IT!KPF (random) UMARO - ALGORE (Sasquatch should've won the Nobel Peace Prize.) In all fairness, I actually do prefer to use the original names most often, though sometimes I can't help but make a change. Some names, like "Setzer," "Aeris," and "Quistis," are all cool, but stuff like "Squall" is a big no-no.  |

I havent done this one yet but i am kicking around the idea. I think i am just going to do a game where i name everyone Bob. It will be quite and intersting game.
