Among the other delightful tidbits released by Square-Enix during their two-day event is their intention to remake the first two Star Ocean games for the PSP.

Star Ocean, originally for the Super Famicom and released only in Japan, and Star Ocean: The Second Story, for the Playstation, will feature brand-new voice work, a new script, updated graphics and FMVs, and more. The two games will be full remakes, not mere ports with a few tweaks.

Furthermore, Star Ocean 4 was announced to be in the works.

I loved Star Ocean 2, and it's still one of my favorite PS1 games. As long as they leave the item creation and skill systems intact (or improve them!), I'm there.

I already heard about this news from other sources, and I have to say I'm so excited! Not only will SO1 and SO2 recieve a remake, but a new Star Ocean entirely? I never thought it'd happen! tongue.gif I can't wait to see what improvements are made in a new battle system...and hopefully, in Item Creation too. I also can't wait to see where the storyline will go, after the plot twist in SO3. Ack, I just can't wait! biggrin.gif

Seems your playing SO2 now so you got the message wink.gif
SO3 seems very weak in plot and characterisation... a poor Star Ocean

All of the Star Ocean games have been 'poor' in the plot department (in one form or another. The strong points of the Star Ocean games are the battle systems and character customization, which Star Ocean 3 owns SO1 and 2 at. SO3's battle system is action-packed, yet strategic, with countless weapon, battle skill, and party setups. If you want a great action RPG with endless replay value and quite a few sidequests, you'll want to get Star Ocean 3 (Star Ocean 2 is great as well, but there are several reasons why it doesn't hold up to SO3). The Battle Trophies also add (quite literally) hundreds of hours of accumulated playtime if you are intent on collecting most of them. Don't listen to what people have to say about the story, because chances are if you're going to play the game a second time or more, it won't be because you want to play through the story again.

i have just cleared the first disc of SO2, and i do like it, but it is certainly lacking thus far in plot. my favorite part of a game is a thrilling plot, so that's a big let-down for me. ill probably avoid buying the 3rd for a while, until i've bought more story-heavy games.
