Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted here. I need your help and ideas on something.
I'm trying to retell FF6 as a webcomic, and am at the part in the beginning where Terra meets Tritoch and Vicks and Wedge are killed off (or transported to a crossover dimension, if you'll believe the fanfic writers ![]() So, what do you guys think actually happens in this scene? Is Terra conscious, or still under the influence of the Slave Crown at this point? How come those explosions appeared? Why did Tritoch do all this, assuming he did? This scene has me stuck. I'm considering just putting in a "fade to white" after Vicks and Wedge get killed, but that seems like such a cop-out. Your insight and suggestions would be a huge help to me! Also, if you want to see what I've got so far, the comic is here: http://ff6comic.comicgenesis.com Thanks in advance! -------------------- |

I'm in the group who believes V&W were killed. On the note of the scene, I think the explosions occured to to overpowr the slave crown and render its effect useless, so she was incapacitated until the explosions and lightening happened.
Tritoch telepathically beckoned her to him with an esper bond, and she was able to override the slave crown via that ESP message. When Tritoch got into her mind, he realized that she was being enslaved and decided to free her. Hope this helps. I really like how you added some dialogue that was not originally in the game. I'd like to see more of that when the characters get together, and possibly have more dialogue between characters who spoke little, if at all, during the game. |

The way I see it, the explosions were triggered by a plot device.
![]() Tritoch is inactive and never reacts to anyone. Except Terra. Oddly enough, being half-something has even MORE of an impact than being a full-blown esper, as can be seen in many other instances, and for some reason it only occures with Tritoch (whom Terra has no special link to) and not, say, Ramuh in Zozo. It's unfortunate, but it's just a deus ex machina to make things a little more mysterious, to move the story along, and to get rid of Vicks and Wedge (who've most likely died, as there is no further reference to them and, well, y'know... explody-explody and such.) Terra was most likely never conscious until waking up in Arvis' house, due to the slave crown, and I'd say she probably just took enough punishment (physically and psychologically) to pass out (or in her case, cease functioning ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

You both have given me a lot to consider this summer day.
Frozen_Aura, I like the idea that Tritoch beckoned to her through telepathy. It's obvious that he is able to communicate in that scene (through glinting and glowing, anyway), so telepathy wouldn't be too much of a stretch. He may not have incapacitated the Slave Crown at that point, though, because it seems like Terra is unaware of her surroundings up until Arvis removes the Crown at his house. Then he's impressed at how quickly she recovers. Like Silverlance said, the main purpose of that scene is to make things a little mysterious. The writers wanted to use this scene to get the game player wondering about the mysterious woman and the weird magic creatures. Though, to be precise, V&W didn't die in the explosions, they were killed moments before, when a bright light appeared and just made them vanish. Either way, they're out of the story. Perhaps the explosions came from Tritoch's reacting with the Empire's Magitek products, both the M-tek armor and the Crown. Perhaps he damaged them and accidentally did a little harm to Terra as well. If anyone has more ideas, please share. This scene will be showing in Late August/ September, and I'll be sure to give the CoN forums credit for their help. ![]() -------------------- |

You could take a different interpretation of it. EG have the other two walkers M-tek energies overload and explode, vapourising the walkers and crew (thus, vanished) and also getting you explosions.
Then have Terra's walker lose power and collapse, throwing her to the ground and knocking off the slave crown. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

That would work, too, though unfortunately I've already drawn the parts where Vicks and Wedge are "faded out", Magitek and all.
Poor Terra. You'd have her fall off of that giant Magitek thingie? But she'll be hurt! ![]() -------------------- |

The cool thing about magic is that it's magic; by definition, as my friend James Randi put it, the opposite of science in every way. So you can fudge the logistics of it a little bit without anyone getting their panties in too much of a knot.
Myself, I think (and going with the whole opposite-of-logic theme) that it's possible two dormant Esper minds could be more potentially powerful than two cognizant Esper minds. The fact that both Tritoch and Terra are in a sort of suspended animation in this scene may make them react to each other's presence more violently, like two same-charged magnets forced together. I tend to think that Tritoch DID kill Bvickggs and Wedge, recognizing them in some way as a hostile presence, and then short-circuited anything electronic in the area, which includes Terra's armor and the Crown (makes sense if they were both running off of Magitek power, too). I think Arvis saying, "Whoa, I only just removed the crown!" doesn't necessarily imply the crown was still functioning at that point. Or if it was, it was no longer controlling her thoughts, just keeping her in a Windows-type "sleep" mode, maybe. In short, I think V & B/W were destroyed so utterly they appeared to vanish. Then, Tritoch and Terra continued to react to each other for a few moments, as Terra's will struggled to overcome the slave crown. Then the power (magic, energy, whatever) reached the breaking point, and Terra lost consciousness as the crown and her armor short-circuited. Since she was the narrative eye, her losing consciousness means fade-to-black. Doesn't seem cheap to me. ![]() -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered.
