Edgar (if only for the chainsaw), Shadow, Cyan, and Gogo. In any game I tend to stick with characters that have more straightforward, brute strength, if anything so I don't have to deal with MP.

I use Celes, Edgar, Sabin, and Gau. Celes has learned all the black magic ( ), Edgar has good hp thanks to his relic, Sabin has relics equipped that make his attacks devastating (Bum Rush-8000+ damage to late-game bosses, no MP to use), and Gau is just fun to have around. I honestly haven't worked out a good way to use him yet.

i'd say usually Sabin, Terra, Celes and Relm.

You can't go wrong with the main four: Terra, Locke, Edgar, Celes.

I also tend to use Sabin, Cyan, Shadow and Gogo a lot. That's my second team.

The best party in my honest opinion is...
Sabin(I use his Blitz commands and trained him with all magic spells and give him a Celestriad. I give him a Godhand and the Paladin's Shield.)
Edgar(I leveled him to 99 and gave him two Ultima weapons, Genji Glove, and Master Scroll. Having him know quick does help quite a bit.)
Mog(He has many uses, but I prefer using the spears that Edgar has no use for. I give him a Genji Glove, and have him with a Gungnir, and Holy Lance. I also have him use a Celestriad with all magic. I use dance rarely.)
Gogo( Gogo is as much a wild card as Setzer's slot comand. His mimic ability is useless. He knows as much magic as anyone else. I normaly have him using a scorpion tail and with an Aegis Shield. I also have him use a Celestriad.)
That is my best party.

I like to have the two main characters (Terra and Locke), as well as Sabin and Edgar or Shadow.

Cyan - equipped with Genji Glove and Master's Scroll
Celes - equipped with Celestriad and Soul of Thamasa/Gem box
Locke - Genji Glove and wtvr the relic is that turns steal into mug. He can do decent damage and can steal twice.
Gogo - Has Control (so he has "fake mustache") magic, blitz, and throw. Blitz can do good damage, He can cast ultima like every turn (he also has a Celestriad) and I always keep a fresh supply of Imp Halberds i get from killing the dino's. At least with my Gogo's stats,each throw with an imp halberd does 9999

The team i finished the game with was:

Edgar

Shadow

Sabin

Gogo

i put Gogo after Sabin for obvious reasons (for the Bum Rush mimic), alot of times i got lucky and Gogo mimic'd Shadow's throw

immediate back up were:

Terra

Umaro

Sabin: Bum Rush
Edgar: Chainsaw
Cyan: SwdTech
Celes: Magic User.

I got them to LV99. After 60 nothing can stop you in the game.

My final team is almost always:

*Terra - using the most powerful offensive spell in the inventory
*Edgar - Drill or Flash are my preferred tools since he tries the one-shot kill at the worst times. Most of the time, though, I equip the two most powerful swords and let him go to town.
*Sabin - spam Fire Dance in WoB, Bum Rush in WoR.
*Setzer - Slot. Why slot? I dunno. I'm just lucky when it comes to getting good combos out of slot. If I have obscene amounts of money, I'll equip GP Rain on him and just let him throw money at the problem. (It works on everything else!)

Occasionally I'll swap Setzer for Cyan, but most of my party members other than those four wind up languishing in the casino. I'm a fighter more than a magic user, so places like the Tower of Fanatics are a nightmare to go through.

lol works on everything else hehe.

I've been experimenting with different types of teams.

Magic:

Realm
Strego
Celes
Terra

They all learn magic and all have magic based abilities, not to mention mos of there final armor/equipment have magic blocking/absorbing capabilities. Mostly terra is there for morph and spamming magic, celes is there for back up and curing, strego goes on the defensive with froce feild and mighty gaurd, topped off with quazar, and relm does what she does best, sketch with a hint of magical power behind her.

Sabin

Edger's machines are useful, i useually use airanchor and noise blaster (very effective) or bio blaster. Ocassionally i like to use drill and chain saw, but only rarely use autocrossbow. I usually just us his machines though so i dont concentrate on his weapons too much. Cyan usuall has the offering and genji glove eequiped with the simitar and his best sword (cant think of the name) then i either use quadra slam or quadra slice. Or just attack using him. I like to build up locke's speed. Given his already good fighing stat and defense stats i have him usually be my main offensive guy with either mug or just the lightbringer. Sabin's the wild card, he is the one who i dont strinctly using fighting with, i use mostly fire dance, aurabolt, and bum rush. only occasionally do i have him dual weild the tiger fang and dragon claw.

those are my only two teams so far.

It's difficult to raise all the charactors the same. (Like I'm trying to do right now)

On my first runthrough I finished with:

Terra - lvl 58
Edgar - lvl 58
Celes - lvl 58
Gau - lvl 59

after that I had:

Locke - lvl 45

and then the rest were all around lvl 40.


So I guess my team was Terra, Edgar, Celes and Gau.
