Anyone know if there is place in the game or a way to see how many battles remain before it morphs.

I don't believe there's a place in the game where it actually says how many battles have passed, your best bet is to either go through the game with it on someone who's Ribboned or hang out in the Solitary Island until the 255/6 (whatever number it is) battles pass.

For some reason i thought the old man that gave it to you told you how many battles you had left on the SNES version. but maybe im confusing it with FF5 or FF7 with different scenarios. Thanks for the tip about the deserted island

Well I went about De-cursing it as soon as I got it. So I also had just got the Ragnarok esper (foolish, I know. If I'm gonna go about Uncursing the shield, then why did I go for the esper?) Basically, I equipped someone with the Esper, and fought on the Solitary Island until they learned Ultima. Because each battle gives 1 AP, I knew I had fought 100 battles, so I repeated it until two characters had Ultima, and another was just over half way there, and surprise surprise, it Decursed itself. Obviously this could be done with any esper, just make sure the characters have no progression towards a spelll before you start it.

well theres that or you could possible try the colliseum and get 255 random items and have mr. chupon sneeze you out of battle. It still counts as a battle fought

My suggestion was a way of telling how many battles you have fought. Just count the number of characters with Ultima, multiply that number by 100, and add the percentage progression towards Ultima that the next character has. When that figure gets to 255, the Paladin Shield is yours.

I went to the solitary island last night and Finally it said, "dispelled curse on shield" and it took forever. I tried to learn pearl wind from the peepers with Strago by using a tincture on them but it is next to impossible because they die so fast, you know they dont have enough MP. Thanks for the strategy WizWurm

No, it doesn't. You have to win the battle for it to count. And I don't think battles in the colosseum count, but I haven't bothered to find out.

k well you can do plan b if so. wager a set of 99 imp lances, 99 imp armors, and 50 or so helmets or shields. I have lvl 99 characters so i would clean the floor with them.

It'll automatically give you a little message in the victory summary (the same time it tells you if your characters have learned new spells, etc.). You don't have to do anything extra.

i bet my cursed shield and won and got a cursed ring... the bad thing was that i losed my shield , but then i wagered my ring and got the air anchor , (now i cant learn ultima because i turned my magicite to a sword but i bet it and got the illuminar )

It didn't seem like it took that long to uncurse the sheild...
I didn't start counting right when i got it though.....
The fast forward on the emulator really helps...especially when you're on the solitary island where the monsters are harmless. Cheap I know =/ but I got what i wanted

When the person dies and you heal him there is no more doom does that count as a battle?

As long as the character equipped with the Cursed Shield is alive at the end of the battle and isn't Gogo, the battle counts.
