Again!
This is news to me. I was browsing Imdb just a little while ago and found THIS. Now I don't know if this is news to anyone other than me, but I thought it was worth starting a topic about it, seeing as it is one of my favorite shows of all time ![]() -------------------- "You know that feeling you get when you're on a merry go 'round, and you want to jump off to make the spinning stop, but you know it'll suck when you land? I've been following this really well, and there are a few things I'm really excited about. At first I thought it was Dragonball Z, but apparently it's following the Dragonball time line more, starting off with Goku living with his grandpa Gohan and with piccolo as the main enemy. Also, Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi? Awesome. Here are some shots off set: 1, 2, 3. Also, here is a demo from Goku's stunt double. It's good that the fighting itself won't be CG, and that stunt double is awesome.
Here's hoping that hollywood doesn't screw this one up. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Fighting... fighting was the only thing I was ever good at, but at least I always fought for what I believed in." - Frank Yeager (a.k.a. Grey Fox) |

Dragonball movie...SQUEE!!
Krillin had damn sure better be bald and short, and Goku has to have his distinctive hair (and maybe his tail), or it isn't Dragonball. Pity it isn't going to be Z though...it would be awesome to see a live-action "IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!!" moment from a live-action Vegeta...although most of the budget would go towards his actor's hair spray/gel. -------------------- HSUP B TCELES |

I saw the title, and I immediately thought, "yea, that's pretty old and all, not that big of a deal..."
And then I saw: Quote Again! And checked the IMDB link. How sweet does this look? With the mix of people, it will be interesting. Energy blasts are going to look bad no matter what tho. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. And having Spike from Buffy as Piccolo? At least they got an actor that's used to crazy makeup. ![]() -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! I heard about this awhile ago. Evidently it's going to be set in the Piccolo Daimo arc, which is near the end of the "before Z" half of the manga. Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer), is producing it, which could be a great, but Ben Ramsey (The Big Hit) is writing it, which is a very bad thing.
But yeah, Spike is Piccolo. Not *quite* the same Piccolo from Z, if they follow the storyline correctly, but damn. Spike is Piccolo. -------------------- |

seriously. Spike is Piccolo. just...damn.
honestly, this could go either way. it could be completely awesome or it could be the cheesiest rip-off ever made. i'm not sure if i can appreciate something i loved as a kid being made into a movie. mainly because there's a more then likely chance of it sucking. but then again, i'd crawl over broken glass for a part in a Cowboy Bebop movie. I guess it's alright to have Goku not be asian right? I mean he really isn't FROM earth is he?. I do like they way the cast looks, I just hope they can act. I'm a huge Stephen Chow fan and him being the producer will most likely be for the better. I've seen the guy in the video FallingHeart posted before, he's pretty cool.
In any case it should be better than the 'other' dragonball film. -------------------- "You know that feeling you get when you're on a merry go 'round, and you want to jump off to make the spinning stop, but you know it'll suck when you land? Quote Krillin had damn sure better be bald and short He grew hair later in the series, you know. And you forgot about his nose. The lack of it, actually. I knew about it for some time already and I have mixed feelings about it. I'd love to see a good movie made out of Dragonball, but I'm not sure this production will be enough. I like the actors so far, but I'm worried about the effects and plot. They should really stick to the original plot to make it good, and it seems that's not what they're doing. Anyway, I'm going to see it as soon as it's released. Also, if you speak Spanish, maybe you'll find this interesting. If you don't, well, you might as well look at the photos. This would be interesting to see how it turns out... and I think James Marshal will be very glad to not have to dye his hair every day like he had to for Buffy.
..and that stunt guy is fricking AWESOME. ...but I hope they stay FAR FAR away from the half-hour power ups. I think the brevity will be good for DB. I remember starting to really watch it during the Freezer/Namek saga. |

I found this unofficial site for the movie. From the pictures they show, it looks like it might be pretty cheezy, but that'll fit seeing as dragonball is pretty cheezy. One thing that does bother me is that it looks like krillin won't be in the film.

As I see it, there are only two real paths they can take with this movie:
1) Take the source material seriously, which is to say they drop the sillyness. Strip out the laser beam attacks and flying for old school, on-the-ground kung fu, take out the animal people...basically strip it down to it's "real-life" aspects and treat it like an alternate universe china. I don't want to see that, cause it's boring and melodramatic and they'll be asking me to take this thing they make seriously, something I can never do. The other option: 2) Go balls out (if you'll excuse the pun) and include everything! The animal people, the silly laserbeams, the monkey monster, the floating top with the green dude with his minstrel show side-kick (they'd never do it, but GODS that would be HILARIOUS!) the shape changing pig...ALL OF IT! And they just take it town for the silly nonsense that it is. Pure self parody, like a western version of Kung Fu Hustle. This...would be AWESOME! Or...it would be WRETCHED! There's no middle ground here. They'd either hit the bullseye and it would be non-stop gut-busting fun, or it'd be a painful endurance of watching someone bomb a joke, but don't realize it so they just keep going. It's SO risky, I know they won't do it, but GOD I'd love it... So we're prolly gonna end up with option numero uno, which'll be fine for Average Q Idiot Movie Goer, who'll see it as something refreshing and confusing because they don't know any better, but I do. So I'll see it for the lackluster and unimagintive kung fu junk it is...except I won't see it, and save myself money and grief. -------------------- |
