Well, I decided to check out the site from the initial post, and I think it slightly swayed my opinnion of the stuff.
I whole-heartedly agree that plain old water is better. I disagree with the statistics that people are not getting enough of these vitamins. At least in the US, as everything (including the vitamins, not everything is completely devoid of them) is overconsumed. The fortunate part of this product tho, is that it doesn't look like it does any long-term damage, as many of the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) are kept to incredibly reasonable levels. Although not advertised as a fitness drink, that would be the only time that I would recommend it. Especially being a calorie (however small) source. Many of the flavors look well balanced in many aspects. The only one I would really be concerned about is that wonderful Formula 50. Fortunately, it's essentially a rush of water-soluble vitamins. The major concern is the illusion that you're actually using all these vitamins. If your body is not used to taking in vitamins in such extreme doses (like say, half your day's needs in a chug) your body won't use it all. It will extract what it can as best as it can, but the rest hits the toilet unabsorbed. I guess the obvious is just don't rely on products like this, as your body also cannot absorb synthesized (aka - artificially added, as in, water doesn't usually contain this sort of thing) nutrients as well. So buyer beware... It looks pretty on paper, but your body may disagree. Quote I'm finishing off a Dragonfruit right now, and I can at least guarantee that it's a LOT better than drinking a Red Bull. Lol. Maybe less calories, but its the same things in different proportions. Red Bull is incredibly concentrated, but a can of that has less caffeine than a Mountain Dew (More percentage wise tho). The big downside of RB is the excessive Taurine content, thus the name Bull. One can (I believe) has 2000mg of taurine. A lot by any standard, because hey, if you measure it in a certain unit, and have enough to measure in a unit 1000 times bigger... then... yea. Problem is, taurine is still being studied. The info on the VW website is correct in it's application with muscle tissue. But here are some interesting facts: - Taurine is a non-essential amino acid. Meaning... YOU MAKE IT YOURSELF! - Taurine has a direct effect on relieving muscle fatigue during strenuous activity. That's why energy drinks keep you going harder longer. - When Taurine is used for this purpose, stores deplete significantly and quickly. - Your body can absorb large amouts of Taurine, being that it's already broken down if you're consuming it as Taurine. - Red Bull contains so much because if you are working out/running/etc. for a long period of time, that is the amout that you need. Red Bull has been on the market for years longer than the other energy drinks, because they came up with the initial formula for the caloric:caffeine:taurine ratios. They're the best, and in terms of the energy drink market, the most right. The only thing RB got wrong was they need more water, but the stuff tastes even worse if you dilute it. ![]() And in case anybody's wondering why I always feel like I got to get on a Soap-Box about this sort of thing, I'm trained as a Dieteic Technician, and am continuing school to be a Dietitian. This stuff is the kind of thing I do. ![]() -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! Holy moly. I've had mono for like two months now, and Vitamin Water was the only way I got enough fluid, and probably calories, to survive. (Regular water did not appeal.) I swear I must have bought at least a hundred bottles, since I drank three a day. Power-C represent, yo, though actually Energy is my favorite, probably because of the caffeine.
I don't really care if it's super-healthy or not. It's not oversweet, it doesn't have aspertame, and it's probably got a couple of good things in it. Vitamin Water is a-ok. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

Quote (Rangers51 @ 3rd July 2007 14:46) Or check out http://vitaminwater.com/ if you're clueless. "Check out our friends!" That was brilliant thank you! I've never looked into any drinks like these. I rehydrate - in classic mountaineering fashion - with cups of tea. More revitalising for those "gods-have-forsaken-you days, yada-yada-yada conference calls, wind-sucking workouts and chasers-are-for weenies nights" than a bottle of superwater. Also I confess to taking multivitamin tablets. But they are only 88p and last a good month or two. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Take vitamin pills, then every bottle of water becomes a vitamin water, then it just becomes a matter of you buying it for flavor. In that case, I buy juice. Because if you already got all the vitamins you need, then there's no use convincing yourself that the bottle of pee you're drinking is supposed to help you. Then you can drink something with actual flavor.

I typically drink only water or milk. That said, if I'm going to a tournament I do drink gatorade that has been watered down (half gatorade and half water) to replenish lost electrolytes
