With the Xbox one recently being announced, I was just wondering what new generation console are people planning on buying, and more importantly, why?
I have read reports that new games for the new Xbox will be allowed only to be played on one profile and that their will be a fee to any other profile that tries to play the game. Meaning that if you borrow, rent, or buy a used game you are going to have to pay an additional fee to play (how much I don't know). I have also heard that the playsation 4 is also going to have this option for publishers but it will be up to them if they want to use it or not. Will this be a deal breaker for anyone else? Why not just get a PC if this is the case, because it basically gets rid of any advantage of owning a gaming console in my opinion. The WII-U doesnt have this, is that a major advantage? Tell me what you think. -------------------- "The red carpet has teeth" |

My next generation plan started with my purchase of a Wii U this year. It still has plenty of room to grow but I have enjoyed the purchase.
As far as the other two consoles go, I am definitely going to get a PS4. The lack of used games thing doesn't deter me from getting one because I don't buy them that much anyway. I don't feel, especially new titles, get discounted enough and I kind of think Gamestop makes too much of a killing off of trades and marking up those used games anyway. My decision goes to the PS4 because during the last generation, they released more games that were my style, the Japanese influenced RPGs mostly. Xbox 360 with Kinect was cool but that was about all I felt was cool about it. I'm coming to accept that Xbox just isn't the system for my gaming tastes. It's more for the westernized gamer, which I am not. So the lose me in this new round. -------------------- Chewbekah ^_^ Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, Attack of the Firday Monsters, Animal Crossing: A New Leaf, Lego City Undercover, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix Recently Finished: Fire Emblem: Awakening Favorite Game: Suikoden III |

Probably the PS4, because whilst XBox one offers a fair bit, I already have a television, I already watch enough sport, and I already have a dog.
And Call of Doggie is on PS4 as well anyway. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

At the moment, none. I do have a Wii U that i don't use, but didn't have to buy. The rest, I'm not getting a vibe that I need them at this time. Maybe once they're out.

Yeah, I'm definitely not feeling a day one purchase even on my chosen PS4, but it has a higher chance of having what I want. My plan isn't to get one in the first year but I break plans like that all the time. So we'll see how it goes.

I think the initial post might have mentioned that some publisher's might have the option but it wasn't announced as a standard. But all of that may be out the window or something different might happen. But if it did. It wouldn't bother me that much.

Is this officially part of ps4? PS4 has officially announced that they will not include additional DRM as part of used games. So if I'm going to get any next-gen, it will be the PS4. But I mostly use my PS3 as a media server at this point, and it's doing the job well, so until something comes out that seriously wows me - and probably several somethings - I have no need to buy any of them. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? The only new-generation system that has me really intrigued is the PS4. It already has a few announced games I'm interested in playing, and of the three major hardware companies Sony by far has the best online retailing and infrastructure. Plus if I eventually get a Vita (and I think I'll own both a Vita and a 3DS in the next two years) then there's that full cross-play thing.

Yeah that cross play thing on the PS4 is definitely cool feature. It makes the Vita look more enticing which, right now it's not enticing to me at all. My eyes are situated toward Nintendo right now and they haven't been since the Super Nintendo days.

I think if I do buy a new console, it will be the PS4. However, I always wait a year or two after they come out to buy one. Anyway, what got me started on this topic was that I found a humorous angry rant about the x-box reveal and started researching it a little. Here is the link if anyone is interested:Xbox 1 reveal angry rant
I bought a 360 for this gen and skipped out on the ps3 and the WII. I was not disapointed with my choice at all. Being a jrpg fan, I enjoyed some exclusive titles for the system like lost odyssey, infinite undiscovery, blue dragon, and tales of vesperia. But all the initial reports of these systems paint the ps4 in such a better light. I think x-box might rethink their strategy after this, its pretty bad when right after you reveal your system, WII-U sales jump up on amazon UK 875%. -------------------- "The red carpet has teeth" |

I plan on buying Wii U for my birthday in October and then PS4 next income tax season after I get a 3DO this month. Don't plan on getting the Microsoft system as always.

I already have a Wii U, only for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate right now, but I'll be getting a PS4 even if only for Final Fantasy 15.

The Wii U is pretty much the one that has my money in the new generation. It may not be the most powerful or anything, but it has plenty of nostalgia factor and the new titles, even if they are tentative steps on old franchises, still look super fun and like exclusives I wanna' own.
As for the other two, neither have exclusives I really care about, so I'd rather just invest in a PC and let Steam and GOG.com keep me good company. Most of the cross-platformers will hit the PC anyways, so I'm not too worried. If I do decide to cave, the PS4 would be the more likely purchase, however. For now, the 3DS keeps me cozy, and catching up with Wii and XBox 360 titles as well as the dozens of titles on my computer, so... no rush! -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! Doesn't work tho
