The first trailer for Final Fantasy IV DS has been released, so finally we've got some more visuals of the remake of Final Fantasy IV, easily one of my favorite games, and I'm fairly certain most other RPG player's as well.

The FMV looks incredibly beautiful, it's seeming that this will become the DEFINITIVE version of FFIV. I love 2D as much as the next old school gamer, but the kind of emotion and nostalgia that this game instills in me, i'm incredibly excited to play through it one more time in the full 3D environment.

Truly this is the stuff that fangasms are made of.

Cecil's voice is way, way, way too young, though. Sigh.

(in before "he's 20!" I know, I just don't like it)

Wow, pretty much, again. xD

That was so beautiful. It's like they brought that part of the game to life. With beautiful FMV to boot.

Wow, did they change the logo from Kain to Golbez?

Anyhow, that trailer is pretty hot. I definitely want to see some more in-game footage before I get too excited, but consider me around medium-well on the grill of hype.

Aww, **** it. It's FF IV, and it's the DS. There's no way I'm avoiding this one.

...

I need to change my pants. BRB.

EDIT: Okay, pants changed.

Personally, I rather like Cecil's voice. After all, he IS 20. The graphics are amazing, and being the rabid, crazed FFIV fanboy that I am, I'm beyond excited.

I read an article a little while ago that interviewed some of the people making the game, and one of them was the original scene director. I may have been mistaken, but I think he said only about 1/4 of the scenes actually made it into the game, and that they'll be incorperating the other 3/4. (I'm so excited, I'm not even worried about spelling. xD) I'll have to find that article and post it here, sometime.

BTW, do we have someone on the forums who knows japanese well enough to translate this trailer?

BTW, I found the article. :3

EDIT (again):

Okay, I've done a little underground searching, and found quite a few more screenshots that we haven't seen yet.

And also, a few new magazine pages with art and info.

Just like to mention. The gameplay looks AWESOME.

Yep, this looks very promising.

I especially like the way the game graphics look different to FFIII; they could have used the same style but there's an obvious difference and improvement. Liking it.

The last words, said by Rosa, are "I love you, Cecil." (Or literally, "I 'like' you," but that's those understating Japanese for you.)

Kain uses "boku" a lot, which you would expect from him. (Kadaj used it in Advent Children, for instance.)

Annnnnd that's all I can do.

FFIV DS...what can i say but brilliant!

I never personally liked the FFIII style much, but i think this will be an amazing game. The trailer was amazing, especially incorporating in the tower of Babil and the whole thing that happens there with the tanks and airships when the giant attacks.

Speaking of the giant, i cant wait to see if there will be anime-like cutscenes put in in some places, such as when the giant attacks, or when they find Edward hurt in bed.

They better keep the same good lines, like Spoony Bard, hehe

This brings me to think which 8 or 16-bit ff theyll turn 3-d next...FFI? FFVI? or maybe FFII?

Well just have to wait and see, since they are also bent on delivering FFXIII as early as possible as well as FFXIIRW and FFTA2.

That trailer was friggen awesome.

Hell, I might consider getting this remake if it does improve the original quality and dodges away from the laggy GBA version. Man, now I'm so excited but pissed off that I'll have to get a Nintendo DS just to play it, the same reason I got a GBA to play FF4 Advance.

I hope this continues on with FFV and FFVI. Mystic QUest remake would be pretty cool too.

Aaah! Surely not! D:

An MQ remake would be horrible. It's hardly even considered a Final Fantasy.

That looks awesome. Too bad I don't own a DS. =( I lost my copy of IV a while ago, so it would be great to be able to play it again.

It would be okay if they added at least a LITTLE bit of character development, instead of "Let's travel together!" "Okay."

Man, that looks really promising to be another brilliant game from them. Good thing i've had a DS for a while now (got it when it first came out), and I can keep myself busy while i'm waiting for it with FFIII DS I just happened to get a couple of weeks ago (also another good promised game).

I'm backin' Neo all the way here. I haven't played Mystic Quest in a while (maybe a year since i hooked up my Super Nintendo), and that would be nice. I would like that they do (if they chose to) make a Mystic Quest game for the DS what they did for FFIII DS. In FFIII DS, they didn't just start out with all four characters in the cave going to the crystal. They gave each character an identity (a background is a better word for it) and not just some four random people. They didn't change the story, but made it more clear and better.

I would like to see a FFV and FFVI as well, as long as they keep doing it the way they have been with FFIII and soon to be FFIV.

Anyway, i'm anticipating the release for it. ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

Did someone want a translation? It's a rush job but I'm pretty confident in it. I'd like to check it off of the game script, but I'm doing this over my lunch break. biggrin.gif

Rosa: Cecil, I heard that the Red Wings are going on an expedition.

Cecil: Yeah.

Rosa: To where?

Cecil: Mysidia.

Rosa: Mysidia? Why to that wizard's village?

Cecil: His majesty's order was to safeguard the crystal of water.

Airships: the flying ships of which the people dreamed.

But that technology is capable of going beyond the fulfillment of dreams, and becoming a means of fulfilling ambitions.

The kingdom of Baron became the world's greatest millitary state through the "Red Wings" airship force.

Why did King Baron, posessor of unmatched power, seek the crystals?

Cecil: Why are the crystals necessary for the prosperity of our kingdom?

Rosa: You aren't that sort of person.

Cecil: I stole the crystal from the Mysidians, from people who had committed no crime. This is exactly the image of the Dark Knight - I am stained by it's darkness. My... heart is...

The 4th fantasy -- Now, the truth can be revealed.

Rosa: Cecil of the Red Wings would never give up like this. The Cecil I love...

Very nice! I just hope Cecil's english voice won't sound so bad though - he does not sound imposing at all. He sounds like he's 14. Or very effeminated, sans-lisp.

Damn, those are nice graphics. I'm totally stoked. smile.gif If the gameplay is nice and fluid, this is going to be one of the best moves Square has made in a long time.

Big-head Cecil on the world map makes me laugh. He looks like a bobble-head.

In other news, I'm going to buy this game so fast and stop playing only when I beat it or pass out.

Thank u so much for the translation! ive been looking all over for one! The in-game graphics look amazing too! I think that if they do this full 3D remake of IV, Square will do the same with V and VI. this could be amazing. i dont have a DS, but if i know that they remake IV, V and VI ill buy one, hands down. dwarf tanks rock!

I am excited to see this one and play it, however I'm saddened by reading that "some scenes from the original story will be removed"...dunno what that will be, but there's a 99% chance it'll be something I'll miss.

well they did say that some would be removed sad.gif

but, that one guy Tokita who was involved in the remake and original said that in the final version, they only put in one fourth of the original plot. he said that they would be adding some of the original plot that we never saw. that could be good.

i also would like more sidequests if they do a remake. was it just me, or were there not very many sidequests in the original?

oh and i don't want Yang or Cid to die either. they are some of my favorite characters. they didn't in the GBA version.

They never did die in the original. You just can't have them join you in the end. Didn't you see them at the Hall of Prayers in Mysida on the original?

I forgot to mention something about the DS... Are they going to get rid of that hideous item storage system? It's annoying because if I pick up a treasure, either replace it with another item or ignore the picked item, you can't get the remaining back.

And key items are also another problem since they keep taking away space. I'd rather have no more than 99 of one item than fill up a new slot with the same item.

On a sidenote, atleast FF3j's item storage were longer, and FF9 always holds the item for you on a chest if you have too much already. That's something the new FF4 should have IMO.

Yang and Cid don't die in the original either, they just don't join your party again.

I think that because they had to cut out so much senario for the original game, they needed to make up a few just to keep the dots connected. That's probably what they're talking about when they say they're going to be "deleting some scenes". Obviously they're going to have to take out those and fill it in with the originally omitted scenes.

And yes, I'm pretty sure they mentioned side-quests. Stylus based ones.

ya the first couple final fantasy games i played, i really didn't pay too much attention to the storyline or sidequests. thats why i played the GBA versions. i just saw that i could be Yang or Cid anymore.

i dont have a DS. ive played one before though, and i dont really like when the games rely on the stylus. some stuff with it is good, and mini games too, but i hope sqaure doesn't go crazy and completely rely on the stylus for too much.

On a sidenote, atleast FF3j's item storage were longer, and FF9 always holds the item for you on a chest if you have too much already. That's something the new FF4 should have IMO.

i completely agree.

i kinda like the system that some games have though, where everything weighs X amount of lbs., and you can only carry so many lbs. depending on your level. i know final fantasy hasn't ever done it, but i think it would be cool

I'm pretty excited that there'll be more scenario that didn't make it into the original game. Overall, this is looking like it'll be a worthwhile remake.

According to the article, the stylus cannot be used to play the entire game, unlike FFIIIDS.
