I think I'll still pronounce it Nar-she. It just sounds best to me. To tell you the truth, I'd never heard it pronounced otherwise.

Same here, although I can't really say much about hearing it pronounced, since the vast majority of Final Fantasy fans that I know are here at CoN.

I've always pronounce Narshe "narsh".
Chocobo (going from the Japanese) is "choke-o-bo".

Oh, and this used to get me years ago, but Masamune is "mah-sah-moo-nay".

god, I'm a dork.

There are a large variety of ways in which different names can be pronounced.  Personally, I only have a comment on three.

One:
I always have -- and always will mind you -- pronounce it "Nar-shee."

Two:
At first, I pronounced it "Coo-co-boo."  That was of course until one of my friends corrected me with "Cho-co-bo." (exactly as it is spelled)

Three:
On an unrelated topic, I always pronounced it "Huh-rule," not "Hi-rule." (Legend of Zelda)  I really like my pronunciation better, sounds more authentic.

Thanks!

Wow, I was just thinking about this a while ago. I have always pronounced it "Narshe," but then realized that it should be "Nar-she." I'm sure most of you have played D II, and here is a good example:

My friend and I were talking about this, a while back I might say, and we both pronounced random words the same way:

WP - wee-pee
SOJ - so-jo

lol and I apologize to those who did not understand the last bit if my post, but either you would and laugh, or wouldn't and it would take too long to explain anyway.

well i have always pronounced it the way it was written Narsh-ee, and it sounds better and when you say Narsh-ee people who have played the game know what your talking about, however if your talking to someone who has played the game and you say narsh, people are bound to go 'wtf??', however i am talking to a friend who has taken japanese lessons and is a major FF Fan and says that
Quote
in the japanese version of the game it was 'Narashe' (nah-raw- {and he isn't sure about the last vowel, he says it could be be say 'se' or 'shya' [which is the romaji's 'shi' and 'ya' together]} (side note: in jap 'e' is pronounced with an 'aw' sound and 'i' has an 'ee' sound),
and i personally pronounce Celes the way they do in the anime Hellsing, I pronounce it Ceras (in the japanese there is no 'l' sound in their alphabet' and is usually replaced with an 'r' sound)

Keep this to FF6 and "Narshe", please. There's a more general pronunciation topic for other FF6 stuff.

I usually say "narsh." My best friend in middle school, the first person with whom I played this game, always insisted it was "nar-shay", and I thought she was really dumb. I'm not sure why she chose to pronounce it that way, but when I got the piano music and read the katakana, I saw that she was correct in a sense: the Japanese text reads much closer to "nar-shay" than "narsh." The romanji at the top of the page, however, represents it as "nalsh."

The moral of this story is that you don't gain anything by trying to pretend that you're Japanese, and I still usually say "narsh", but "nar-shay" on occasion, because it irritates my boyfriend.

I still belive that it's pronounced Nar-shee; if the "e" was meant to be silent, why bother putting it there?

like others in this topic, i use my minor accent, chicago, german, or whatever to pronounce it 'narsche'.. or similar to it. frankly, because it was translated into english (or any language you played it in), you can't directly trace it back to japenese (or it's native language, be it another game). In a way it helps to do so, but in a way, the way it was translated, it was meant for the people of that language to pronounce it with their dialect.

I don't know the most correct way, but, as far as english goes, we're probably all right.
