I don't have a GBA, but I do have a friend who has one and I trust his opinion very much when it comes to good games. He liked the Golden Sun RPGs. From what I played of the first one (it didn't really grab me, but I only played about 15 minutes into it) they seem to be solid games.

the golden sun games are pretty good, but i say mario and luigi: superstar saga is one of the best RPGs out for GBA. its one of the funnest games ive ever played! reminded me so much of legend of the seven stars on snes.

Get Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. As I've mentioned many times before, the story sucks, but the gameplay is awesome.

If you're also into stuff that's somewhat more action-ish, I'd recommend the three Castlevania games (Circle of the moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Aria of Sorrow) and the two Metroid games (Fusion and Zero Mission). If you like plot, go for Aria. If you like music, go for Circle. If you like something scary, go for Fusion.

Besides FFVI Advance, there's also FFI&II Dawn of Souls, FFIV Advance, and FFV Advance. Not the same as the originals, but they have newly re-translated dialogue for at least FFIV and FFV (which at least for FFIV seems better, but I have yet to see much of the others), and they have new sidequests and gameplay interfaces (so, basically, updated versions with various additional fanservice-type goodies).

I don't think anyone's mentioned Minish Cap. Youc an also get older games to play, like the other three Zeldas and Final Fantasy Adventure. smile.gif

The suggestions thus far are solid, and I'd also recommend both Advance Wars games, all three Fire Emblem games, Astro Boy: Omega Factor, and Gunstar Super Heroes. AW and FE are both turn-based strategy games, and Astro Boy and Gunstars are both platform/shooters. In fact, I'd probably call Astro Boy the most severely underrated GBA game. It's that good, and not many people have played it.

I didn't really enjoy Tactics Advance as much as I did Tactics, but it's a good game to have in your library. I'd say the Pokemon saga is the best if you're just looking for something to occupy your time. I didn't get nor play many GBA games, other than Kingdom Hearts or Pokemon, but I'd say the Megaman Battle Network games were fairly fun and kept me going.

As for tactical RPG, I'm surprised no one mentionned "Tactis Ogre: Knights of Lodis". It has a great variety of jobs and strategies, a good story and a nice replay factor. I consider it above FFTA and pretty much every aspect.

I agree with him on every point he made (except for Gunstar Super Heros, which I never played)

Also, note that FE6 (the one with Roy) isn't available outside of Japan, so if you wish to play that, you need to import or emulate (I choose to emulate) The other two are available in the US, and so I assume they are in the UK as well.

I'd recomend the FEs over FFTA to be honest. I enjoyed FFTA, yet I cringe at the thought of a replay. FE was much easier to get intp.

Poor Astro Boy. Most gamers haven't even heard of his game, much less played it.

I am so going to use this list.

I only have remakes for the GBA. All four FFs, LoZ:ALttP:FS, a few NES games. The only original game I have is FFTA and I'm seriously considering getting rid of it.
As for the remakes, DoS was okay, IV was bad, V was awesome, and I'm just starting VI, so I don't know how that one's going to end up yet. LttP plays exactly like the SNES until you beat the game, and it's already a great game, so that one's good. Four Swords is really great if you have some friends to play with.

Invest in either Pokemon FireRed or LeafGreen if you're feeling nostalgic. A very well done remake, if I might say so myself.

As for a more traditional RPG...

FFVA.

Oops, I forgot those as well. For a different type of tactical gameplay, there's the Megaman Battle Network series. I've only played the first game of that series, but I like the gameplay a lot. Story, meh, not as bad as FFTA's, and pretty decent, but you'll be in it not for the story but again for the fun of playing the game.

It's a lot of fun to discover and then use combos like Steal S + StoneMn3 S + SkullMn3 S. That combo is my personal favorite. On the other hand there're also chips I haven't figured out a use for yet, such as the candle chips.

And I surmise that the "SnakeEgg" chips are direct references (in both name and functionality) to the original MM3 Snake Man. Seriously.

There doesn't actually seem to be a whole lot missing in the games listed thus far, but the Gameboy Advance is pretty impressive, and the library is massive, so really there's still far more than the twenty something games thus far.

There's a lot of remakes on it that are of good games, like Zelda: Link to the Past, which has been mentioned, as well as the Final Fantasy games. There's also Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire 2, I love the games personally, but I find that others don't share my enthusiasm, at the least they hate the first but enjoy the second. If you like games like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or Fire Emblem, there is a Shining Force remake on the GBA as well. Donkey Kong Country 1-3 got remade for it, and it's really not THAT bad if you can get past the stuff they changed. Once you actually get into the game, it's still the same classic DKC action.

All the Castlevania games released are worth it, same for the Metroid games. Megaman Zero is extremely fun, but the first two are extremely difficult, the first one especially. Tales of Phantasia is another good one, and Lufia 3 is decent. I liked Sword of Mana, but that's another one of those games where I find not everyone shares my opinion. Super Mario Advance 4 was a nice remake of Super Mario Bros 3.

Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku was alright too, played a bit like Zelda what with the overhead action, but the game gets repetitive. Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure is an amazing side scroller. I was extremely impressed. Many people seem to have not heard of it, but really, if you can get your hands on it, get it.

Mario Pinball Land and Sonic Pinball Party, if you're into pinball. There's also two Kirby games, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, and Kirby: The Magic Mirror. Good stuff if you're a fan of the marshmallow. Shining Soul and Shining Soul II are also good, but they're a little hard to get into at first.

There's also Drill Dozer, which was surprisingly fun. It's a puzzle platformer, sort of. You play thieves who use a mech with a drill to steal, and have to fight security guards and stuff in the process. Involves things like figuring out the codes to safes and stuff, too.

And of course I second the recommendation of the games already mentioned. Except maybe Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, man that game pissed me off.

Oh, I forgot about BoF 1+2. I'm one of those people that Z_H is talking about (2 was great, 1 was meh.) I especially like this version because exp and gold are gained 2-3x faster than in the SNES version. That made it much more bearable for me.

I kinda enjoyed Sword Of Mana on the GBA myself, despite the generally bad reviews it got. Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission along with the Castlevania games ought to be on your 'to buy' list as well.

I recommend any snes port overs (if you don't have an snes). Other than that I can't think of anything.
