Even if no game uses it to its full potential, the fact remains that new strategies are being used and that consoles are evolving. If consoles kept being one-trick poneys that just have you mashing buttons on a controller all day, the field would grow very stagnant. In fact, it already is.
Having an open door offers many more possibilities than none at all, even if you just stare at it without knowing what to do. Eventually you'll step through it. That's an innovation - pacing back and forth without doing anything new isn't. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote (Wesdelmarva @ 28th May 2007 00:09) But that's the point with games. Who cares if the hardware is something unlike everything else if there are no games that utilize it? Your opinion's fair and I agree with it, but what's unfair is to hear the word "Wii", and instantly pretend it means "The Wii and its software library". Edit On further thought, I meant in this context, it's a rather shady approach. Clearly, the hardware can be innovative on its own. Whether the software can live up to it, debatable (I certainly believe it has). But when one talks about the system being innovative, they're clearly talking about the hardware. Otherwise, they'd name specific games. And if they're like you, I guess they believe that the hardware and the entire software library is innovative. *shrug* Didn't I mention just earlier that I hate ambiguous technical terms? Quote (Wesdelmarva @ 28th May 2007 00:09) The GameCube and 64 lost out to their competition because they couldn't compete in the games market. If there are no games on the market for the system that truly utlize the system's capabilities, could we really say the system is innovating the video game market? Wouldn't that kind of be like saying New Coke innovated the soda market despite the fact that not a single person liked it? You stated just earlier that "Sales do not equal innovation". Now you're making the opposing argument. PS3 has very few good games. thats why sales are so low. the price is high, but if it had good games, people would actually buy it. i would pay that much for a PS3, but only i knew i was getting to play good games out of it. instead, everyone has to wait a year just to get to play the good looking PS3 games.
