This was announced several months ago, so I somehow missed the proper chance to newspost about it. There is currently a trio of straight-to-DVD animated films in production scheduled to be released over the next few years, based on the characters and events in Castlevania III. It's being written by comics journeyman Warren Ellis and art directed by comics artist James Jean. Here's the production blog.
The movies will be "not for children" and specifically made to Ellis and James's creative vision. It will feature all of the main characters from Dracula's Curse (Trevor, Sypha, Grant, Alucard, and Dracula), but not all of them will be introduced in the first movie, and some of them may be given alternatively-spelled names (Grant is going to be Grant "DiNesti" or something). So yeah. I'm stoked. It's well-documented that I'm a bigtime Castlevania fan, and I think that this could turn out to be something really good. In the meantime I'll just check the blog every few days and see what's up. -------------------- |

I assume this is unrelated to the "big" Castlevania film that was supposedly being directed by Paul Anderson until it was supposedly no longer being directed by him?
Also, "Dinesti" is the original spelling of one of the Tepes family's rival families, and IIRC it's in fact true that Vlad really badly ****ed them over. The "made to [their] creative vision" thing is not really getting to me though...unless it turns out to be awesome somehow. Movies made from video games tend not to turn out to well for some reason, but of course I hope this breaks that trend. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. The trio of to-dvd movies will be awesome for us Castlevania fans, but i would like to see an actual live action or semi-live action version of it released with some computer graphics slipped in for Draculas attacks and stuff

To me, this sounds cooler than the live actions that were announced. I love Castlevania 3.

For a second there, I confused "Ellis" with "Ennis" and was very frightened.
I've never happened upon any of Ellis's work, because he tends to get on stuff I'm just not interested in/reading at the time. I've gotten into the new Stormwatch series and was considering getting the trades from the old run, which everyone seems to be raving over. Jean's a good cover artist, but I'm not sure if that would translate to an animated project. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I'm still extremely fearful of the prospect of a Castlevania movie directed by Paul Anderson (anything directed by him, for that matter
![]() You can just imagine the fight between Simon Belmont and Dracula now....in slo-mo, with silly out-of-place martial arts moves being used and a thumping techno-rock soundtrack in the background *shudders* ![]() It's enough to make Van Helsing look like Citizen Kane. -------------------- GameCentral's favourite canine contributor |
