i've recently gotten into this anime, and i know it was mentioned a lot in the Anime Thread, but what are your views on it? i just finished watching episode 29 and i was saddened by it. so anyway, i love how it's psychological and not concentrated on just fights.

so what do you think?

I, unfortunately, have not yet seen the Death Note anime. I have however read the manga in its entirety via scanlations, and have purchased the first four Viz graphic novels (I can't wait for the entire series to be released so I can snag them all up).

I really do like Death Note, and can certainly list it as one of my favorite manga/anime series. The psychological struggles between the characters and the mind games give the storylines just as much continuation as any typical fighting series; but with the same amount of excitement.

My only real complaints are that it can get a bit too text-heavy at times; leaving to pretty complex storylines, and the ending made me pretty angry with a sloppy conclusion. But overall I really enjoy it and hope some sort of sequel or spinoff is made...

I need to watch the anime sometime soon, to compare the differences between it and the manga.

I've seen my twin brother watch it, and it just doesn't appeal to me.

The one reason I watched the first few episodes is because I knew Kappei Yamaguchi (who I absolutely adore) would be playing L. Unfortunately the series as a whole didn't really appeal to me. I would watch just for the sake of it but ended up not really caring if I forgot an episode, so the next time I watched I'd missed a bit. Eventually I just stopped watching.

I think I only watched two episodes in their entirety... ^^

Really well-animated, though. XD

I've yet to see the anime, although I read the entire manga.

I daresay it should've ended mid-way through, when
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
L is killed by Rem, Misa's Shinigami

After that, it's just unnecessary stretching.

I'm addicted to the anime. I love the manga, as the story telling is excellently done and the psychological aspect of what is going on is a nice bonus. It's nice to have a show with a unique premise and deliver it in an equally interesting style. This is one of the few instances where I prefer the anime to the manga, mainly because of the way it's presented. The L v.s. Kira arc was beautifully done, though I have my reservations about how it ended.

The recent episodes have been fun as well, mindyou I never was content with the overall ending of the story. Someone asked if the anime was complete? Well, not as of yet, but it's very near to it.

*squeak* I love the Death Note manga! heart.gif I've only gotten up to the end of volume eight so far. My favourite part so far is later in the first arc, with the Yotsuba group. Misa is sooo cute during that, as is Matsuda! XD But I must say

volume seven was depressing. T.T L was my favourite character and I liked Rem too, damn it~!

...but hey, at least we got Mello and Near out of it, right? I like them well enough, especially Mello. smile.gif

Unfortunately, I've only gotten to see part of one anime episode through the power of my school's high speed internet... D: I liked what I saw, though.

I love Death Note, so far I have the manga series up to volume ten. Usually I am all for the combat and fighting, but in Death Note, it's more of a battle of wits with Kira vs. L which I surprisedly liked or more like fell in love with. happy.gif

I have not yet seen the animated series yet, so I don't really have a say in that... yet. So basically, I loved it, good graphics and a great storyline (at least in the manga) with some characters better than others. happy.gif

I never saw the anime, but I did read the first two books. It was all right. I liked the Kira vs. L thing, it was something that once you start, you just can't get away from. I already knew that

L got killed
so I don't really feel like going any further. I read what happened next and how it ended in an article on Wikipedia. Enough for me.

I found that there was a little too much talking and not enough action. I needs me some action!

A friend of mine forced me to sit through several episodes of the show, and I have to tell you... absolutely excellent. The bright side about psychological, drama-based crime shows is that there's no need for filler. Animation costs are so cheap that it's pure story.

The dialogue is superb and the character designs wonderfully original. I've only seen the first twelve episodes, but I've been impressed so far. They don't pull any punches and the intelligence of the script remains above par. It's a classy thriller with the usual Anime melodrama tossed into the mix.

Episode 7:

It's unfortunate they seemed to end the Raye Penber storyline so quickly. The fiance was an excellent foil and to eliminate her so quickly destroyed alot of potential drama. He also acted like an insane stalker after a while, constantly trailing behind her and brooding... I'm surprised any self-assured woman would put up with that.

Episode 12:

Seems like Light's going to have his work cut out for him with this new element. I'm predicting a CSI-style defeat for the new girl: a big reason why Light has been so successful is that the Death Note prevents any evidence. Sending physical tapes that are verified from a Death Note user means that they'll be traceable.

L might want to hire Gil Grissom. With all the money he seems to have, it shouldn't be a problem to get the CSI team over to Japan. smile.gif
