This has been driving me crazy ever since I got my PS2 almost 2 months ago. My PS2 will not read my PSX's memory card and it won't save my PSX games onto it's own memory card. Is this normal? Is there anyway to get it to cooperate?
My cousin plays all his PSX games on his PS2 and he has no problems at all. Apparently there is something different between mine and his PS2s. -------------------- Why, hello guys! Haven't been around here in a loooong time! http://dragcave.net/user/LadyTwi http://www.backloggery.com/ladytwi |

thats VERY normal
the only way to save is to save on the PS X memory card. but since it cant read it... your best bet is to copy the files form the PS X memory card onto the PS 2 memory card (the files can be copied but not played...i dont know why) and get a new memory card for the PS X. i have a Mad Catz card and it works absolutely fine. also, try cleaning the card out and put it in slot 2. it shouls work -------------------- Aujourdhui a commence avec toi. |

A lot of non-official (ie. non-Sony) PSX memory cards don't work with the PS2. Your best bet is to get a Sony PSX memory card, and use that. Of course, if you still have it, you could just set up your PSX right next to your PS2, and when you want to play a PSX game, just swap some of the wires around.

PS2 cards are incompatible with PSX games. They're backwards compatible, not forward. The PSX BIOS, IIRC, is stored as a binary image on PSX disks and does not contain the necessary code to read PS2 cards, so these games can't interface with anything but a PSX card.
I had the same problem when I decided to break out Breath of Fire III (never finished that damned game...) and found I couldn't save. Luckily a PSX memory card is only about five bucks, so it's no biggie. The biggest hassle is actually going to the store mid-game just so you can save. Edit: Sorry about that, misread the post. :x Well, I have a first-party card and it works fine. Like I said, five bucks; it's worth a try. Uh, I don't think so. To emulate PSX games on a PC (which I have done for kicks) you have to either download a BIOS image off the web or dump it from a PSX using strange equipment. I'm sure if the PSX BIOS was on PSX disks, emulators wouldn't need a separate BIOS file. I'm sure the reason that you have to have a PSX memory card to save your PSX games is so Sony gets more money.
