Hey guys...always loved the forum, and will be here until at least my future job shoves me away for a while...

Anyways, i have a dilemma. My friend is beginning to become a final fantasy fan like me (and most people here), but he is a little estranged and, i guess, nervous to chat to people about how he feels on the games.

I told him just express what you know, and they'll be cool about it (unless rules are broken), and that theyre always happy to help and are accepting to your'e newbie-ness to the series.

Dont think im forcing him to join this forum...he really wants to!...but if people here could put words of encouragement, it would be great...especially since he's just recently gotten a higher-speed internet that that crummy dial up.

PS: ill tell him or he'll see tham off my comp...either way he will get these comments.
PPS: if in wrong section...please move it.

Thx a bunch CoN people for the support!!

Moved to Greetings. You IDIOT.

We're always willing to see more people here. Those who show up with respect for everyone get it in return, that's all we ask. Besides, more people who show up and enjoy it make me want to work on the site more.

Edit
Just in case GMH's comment muddied the waters, I was in fact kidding.

Here was my original post:

"I gotta say, this is one of the most welcoming forums I've ever seen on the internet, with some of the nicest and most reasonable people. The forums are kept very civil, and newbie-bashing is extremely rare--much, much rarer than the average around the internet."

Well, okay, there's R51 calling someone an idiot. Just ignore that bit. And Climhazzard blowing up people's houses.

Sorry, inside joke. tongue.gif Don't worry about it, though, seriously. As long as you follow the rules (which I think are quite reasonable) and you don't act like a jackass, you'll be fine.

(In case your friend is really becoming concerned, keep in mind that I am extremely anti-newb-bashing, and I often voluntarily and readily defend poor newbies who find themselves assaulted by verbal abuse.)

Nervous about joining a forum and talking about video games? Well, I'll just echo Josh's statement: if he's civil to us, we're civil to him. What does your friend have to lose?

The internet's a free country. Your friend should do as he pleases - nobody's going to get in the way of his will so long as it's not anything rule-breaking.

Sorry, I think that's about as good as I can manage. wink.gif

We don't bite. At least over the internet we don't. At least I don't. Over the internet, that is.

Seriously though, we help when and how we can and we like new people.

I'd also advise your buddy not to pay attention to just this thread, but to actually read the regular posts on other forums. That'll probably be a better indicator of what we're like.

It's a forum, not a support group.

a forum is founded upon being open to others' ideas and opinions, and CoN does hold close to that, along with harsh punishment for spamming, but of course for anyone who's been to a forum that allows spamming, that's a good thing.

I'm new to the site, but not new to FF - And personally I enjoy helping people out. There's definately gratification to having your strategies help someone out, or slipping a good piece of information to someone when they ask a question. Maybe it's just me tho.

I remember back 5 months ago when I joined. It was as if I'd been there for years. The people here are better than a lot of people I know in my school.

Tell your buddy I'd be glad to hear his opinions because it gets boring just listening to my own. Everyone must know how it feels when you want to see what other people think.

I remember when I joined, I was cocky and ungrateful. I believe I actually went back and edit/deleted the first post I ever made. Oddly enough, it was quoted, so even tho I deleted it, it still exists. sad.gif Anyways, I don't think that you can screw up so bad that you can't come back from it, and if you do, you'll just get banned. I still post once in awhile, but I originally joined for FFV, and there hasn't been much to talk about with that recently, so I observe more than anything now. This place is fun to be, even if you're not talking.

Just know that everyone here is real people (except maybe for climhazzard, I think he's whatever was in that mako reactor in Mt. Nibel tongue.gif Yeah 9803 posts...) and everyone here has a unique opinnion, some more assertive than others. You'll figure out the assertive who's and what's real fast.

Speaking of which, I might caution your friend if his favorite game in the series is FFVIII, unless he enjoys stirring the pot. thumbup.gif

At the risk of being flamed by people (especially the next time I set foot in chat), I will say I completely agree with this. CoN and CoNchat are two quite different creatures.

Oh, you won't be flamed for saying that, because it's definitely true. Flaming is not condoned in the forums, but in chat it's a totally different story. I'm sure the next time you set foot in chat we'll find another reason to flame you. And not just you, but everyone. We don't discriminate.

Like hell you don't! Don't even try to say they aint a selective bunch in there. I'm there all the time, never saying a thing in that monkey cage, but I I'm there. I know exactly how it is in there.

Forums, are peachy though. Bit stiff at times sure, but it's gotten a lot better compared to what it was for a while. But chat is everything I imagine your friend's afraid of and more.

But it's okay, because Josh gets mocked double when he's away for every time he mocks someone.

Magimaster, I think that your friend would be fine on the forums, and if he makes a good first impression in chat he'd be okay, as long as he avoids a certain couple of people.

I'm sorry..... you want us to post words of encouragement to a stranger so they will join?!?

Tell them to peruse the rest of the site and look at all of our threads as a whole. The idea of posting "feel good" stuff for an unknown is laughable to me. What are they afraid of? Good grief... it's an internet forum. tongue.gif

Out of curiousity, is your friend planning on joining, or are we just rambling away for nothing now? wink.gif It HAS been over a week; if you friend needs more encouragement to do something on the internet, he should consult a specialist for his debiltating insecurity issues. tongue.gif

Seriously, what's going on now?
