This is a long running thing that has gone on among my friends for a long time. We still laugh at the advert: see it here

And, of course, the remix.

Anyway, I'm guessing it's probably a UK exclusive tragedy but does anyone know who he is and why he's now advertising kitchen cleaner? On a side note the remix would probably do better than the actual advert. I remember they played it on BBC Radio 1 one time!

His name, according to Wiki, is Neil Burgess, and the Remix is apparently facing a commercial release in 2007. It's a pity God isn't there because no one can help us now.

In the US it's apparently called easy-off bam, and the Dreaded Barry has made his way there. There is no hope, only in death is there salvation... Preferrably his.

I have the techno video downloaded somewhere. And yes, according to Wikipedia, that's not his real name, but I have no clue why they decided to change it. Perhaps Barry Scott sounds more straightforward than Neil Burgess.

And it's not a tragedy, it's hilarious, albeit stupid nonsense. But hilarity takes precedence over stupid nonsense, because while I feel bad laughing at people when they hurt themselves doing stupid things, I don't have any compunction about laughing at people who intentionally make fools of themselves.

I just seen the Bam remix commercial except instead of "Barry Scott" it was a lady and the voice wasn't as cool so yeah, bring Barry Scott back, he's what makes the ad, an ad.

We had that commercial aired on TV here in Poland with a silly Polish dubbing and they cut the guys name, so until I saw this thread I never knew he actually said his name there. In Poland we get a lot of commercials with celebrities that don't get to work on TV anymore, so they decide to star in commercials of kitchen cleaners and such to earn some money, since they still spend too much of it. It's sad, really.

I, uh, thought the remix was brilliant. It's totally going to make me think of their product
over 409 next time I'm shopping---I look forward to when commercials are targeted to the
demographic normal curve that loved 90s techno.

EDIT Just the buzz generated by that clever remix is the very power of citizen-generated
advertising.

I know now who Barry Scott is, and my friends soon will too.

This also means I have 4 personal heroes... in this order:

1. Mark Hoppus
2. Batman
3. Jesus
4. Barry Scott

To be fair, Barry Scott is a bit of a legend. laugh.gif

I just feel for him, everytime he goes somewhere he must get people recognising him and he's probably got the occasional death threat to boot.
