I don't know how familiar everybody is with his writings and work, but this is a good topic to discuss such things.

Personally, my favorite book of his, that I've read, is Breakfast of Champions.
I thought it was exceptional. Pretty much everything that he's written is fantastic. Vonnegut was one of my personal hero's, because he wasn't afraid to go places in his work that other authors wouldn't touch, as well as for his eccentric writing style, which was a radical novelty in and of itself. He will be missed.

I just heard about this too.

Personally, I wasn't really a fan. Sure, I can see his influence and can appreciate his skill in some respects, but for the most part I just wasn't impressed.

Slaughterhouse 5, for example, one of his more celebrated works, was less of a literary masterpiece and more of an annoying "radical novelty," as MogMaster put it.

But it's not the time to criticize. Rest in peace.

I'm a big fan of Slaughterhouse 5 and Cat's Cradle. Breakfast of Champions is on my reading list, too. That's really a shame, Vonnegut was one of the few unique authors in the world.

I first heard of Kurt Vonnegut a few weeks ago when my Comp II class was assigned a paper on Slaughterhouse-Five. We read it cover-to-cover (great read!), did a few short assignments on different parts, then assigned a paper to pick a certain topic and write about it. Had I given more focus on my chosen thesis, I would've gotten a higher grade than a 'C'. I'm plannin' on re-writin' it for a better grade.

I've done some research on him for extra material for my paper as well as to find out more about him than just what the instructor knew. He seems to have been a real interesting guy and I'm sure he'll be missed by his avid fans.

Breakfast of Champions is probably one of my favorite books, entirely because of the uniqueness Vonnegut had in his writing style. Slaughterhouse 5 I actually only just finished not too long ago and it's another great piece. He had a way of making ridiculous things seem acceptable and common place things seem absolutely absurd. The whole Dirty Theater skit in Breakfast of Champions comes to mind.

It's a shame to lose such a unique writer and thinker.
