Hello everybody, Tonepoet speaking quite obviously of course. I was just browsing YouTube videos, looking for stuff related to one of my more prodominant obsessions, the Touhou Project series of games of which you could be but probably aren't already familiar with. Check 'em out if you haven't already.
Moving onto the main subject matter, Touhou might not normally be relevant to you guys but I saw some rather spectacular fan madel game that I think you guys might be interested in. Noo, it's not an RPG or anything like that, it's just so awesomely amazing that I have to share. It's called Touhou Mystical Chain, as you may've guessed from the topic title. It's a very simple game with some astonishing 2D graphics that plays kinda similarly to a Smash Bros. Melee Adventure mode game with a Marvel vs. Capcom style team of two. I've only just tried it so I don't have the hang of it yet but it's quite fun. Here's a trailer with a link to the demo in the description, here's a boss fight and here's a link to the demo download page for those of you who don't wish to bother with YouTube videos at all. It's in japanese, so the default controls are Z to attack, X to jump, C to change characters and A to use a special and S to pause. Attacking with different direction pressed changes your moves/combos, pressing down+C will change your character's stance and pressing jump with a directional key will allow you to air dash which can dodge attacks. That's all I've figured out about it so far. Also, I'm uncertain if there will be localization issues for you but if there are you guys could install japanese language support and try using app locale. to fix 'em. It's very much worth it. Also uhh, sorry if this is a bit overly eccentric of me. I just couldn't help but share this with the ![]() This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 31st July 2009 05:24 -------------------- |

I've always considered Touhou overrated and never tried it out as a protest to some of my friends.

I love this game. I was struggling with the controls for a bit until I realised my 360 pad was compatible. It's great, but I wish it were longer. This is only a demo, though, right?

Besides the controls I found it pretty good. I may be biased however since I'm a fan of fighting games so obviously I'd like it. (Or rather just the 2d fighting style, not necessarily the 1 on 1 battles)

Yeah, it's just a demo footbigmike. The full version should be on sale during Comiket on August 15th, in japan. Your best bet at owning a full version, presuming there's no free web download, would probably be an import site*. Palet Mail Service often has both the official and unofficial Touhou works.
I agree that the controls are a bit finicky on the keyboard, I think they could've diversified button input for attacks a tad more. It's a milder form of Kirby's Air Ride Syndrome, so to speak. Speaking of the controls, I just noticed that double tapping a direction on the ground makes a longer lasting ground dash and that Down Up A, as well as Up Side A also do some specials for each character. In some rare instances I've also noticed Marisa's Love colored Master Spark (her special) can also aim downwards sometimes but I'm not sure what triggers it. Even so, I think the game's one major unbecoming is the mild lack of freedom. Gigantaur, while the fans that do exist can be a bit overly obsessive about it (myself included,) I find that it's one of the most obscure and least talked about series I know of. In addition to this, there are free demos of all the official games online. If you so badly desire to spite your friends that you're unable to judge for yourself, well, I suppose that's your loss. All the more power to ya though if you're certain that's what really makes you happy though, I guess. ![]() Edit Update: Mystical Chain is finally available to buy at HimeyaShop. (Yay!) One may want to check out their S&H rates before buying from them though... Particularly pricy. =\ This post has been edited by Tonepoet on 27th November 2009 16:23 -------------------- |
