This would be better as a General topic to cover all RPG's but hey, i didnt start the thread...
Location: Doma Castle
Requirements: Dotn have Cyan in the party
Wandering about outside Doma is a slightly disorentated man. He'll gibber breifly about a plot to gradually phase out 'the intresting people' and repalce them with cardboard-like characters who grind the nerves and result in many a "disc" being snapped "within two games" (see exact dialogue)

WHAT THE LOONEY SAYS
Maddie: Ah, hail main peeps, how do you do, no, dont asnwer: you're all going to get a tolchuck in the Yarbles!
Sabin (if in party with Strago): No more 'Clockwork Orange' for you!
Strago (if above condition met): Dont break the fourth wall!
M:(ignroign sabin and stargo completely if they spoke) Well, its lucky you be here Locke/Terra/Sabin/Edgar/Gogo/Celes/Setzer [whichever is in party, in that order of imprtance] as i ahve a messgae for you:
Above Character: really? Who From?[/I]
M:... dang, i forgot. anyway, basically, theres a plot by the 'Illuminati' to phase out good characterful folks like yourself and replace them with annoying, boring ones called '3D' characters. Theres an experimental one in the secret lab you didnt notice on Triangle Island.
2nd character: how do we knwo you're not making this up?
M : Simple. There is no spoon. *dies*
3rd character well that was nice ['Kupo' if char is mog]
above character message was aimed at: ah well, lest go find this lab thing

Scene of airship flyign over the island
SETZER: i dont see anything
BLACK HELICOPTER LIKE THING: Halt!
SETZER: Now i do!
*Five little men drop onto ship*

BOSSES: Fastrope guys
HP: 10000 each
MP: noe
LEVEL: 40
ATTACKS: Rifle (standard attack) Charge (sword attack that works like Demi)

After they die, the airship ever so slightyl hits that lab thingy...

ENEMIES IN LAB: Zombies, Infantry (like fastrope, but with Less HP and strength), Programmers,
Items in Lab: Hi-Potions, Elxirs, some randfom swords

The lab resembles the Magitek facilty place in Vector, except that its more of a maze. after wandering around, you wil find an Illuminati...

ILLUMINATI: Halt! You cannot stop us!
1st CHAR: we dotn really want to, we dotn know what you're doing!
ILLUMINATI: Im out to make moeny, of course! by replacing the nice little , er, "Chibi" people with snazzy 3D graphics, i will make MILLIONS!
2nd Character: Gasp, he plans to get rid of small sprites! Kill him!
ILLUMINATI: Ah...

BOSS: Illuminati
HP: 60,000
MP: inf
LEVEL: 40
ATTACKS: Rifle (standard attack) IRS (steals your money), Upgrade (character becoems 3D, cannot eb supported by the game engine, and dissaperas. Like sneeze), Fire 3.

after he dies, he sets loose the 3d Character. hwowevr, its poorly programemd, and looks awful in 2D

BOSS: 3d Character
HP: 60,000
MP: inf
LEVEL: 43
ATTACKS: Stamp (stands on little small sprite causing random status) Big Sword (instnaly kills a character), rifle
The 3d Character is slow: it will only attack once every three atatcks from your group on average. onc eits dead, the secen returns to doma... where the 1st carachetr of you party is awakening, with the other three still asleep

CHARACTER: Wow, that cheese was a bad move....

Starting Location: WOB Opera House (post-Setzer)

Conditions: Celes and Locke are both in your party. You can have one other person, if you want.

As you enter the Opera House, the IMPRESSARIO greets you:

IMPRESSARIO: Ah, Celes... Locke. How nice to see you both again! Come, come, I believe that the opera is about to begin! Would you be interested in watching it - only 10,000 GP?

(It's a bargain! / Don't have that much spare...)

If you refuse, he says:

IMPRESSARIO: Well, do drop by if you do want to watch!

If you accept:

IMPRESSARIO: Great! Same seats as last time, OK?

(He leads you there, Opera begins. It's not the same as last time.)

Music starts: It's a slow piece. MARIA walks on stage right (Pallete swap of Celes, with a purple gown instead of a white one), whilst VALRIN (Pallete swap of Locke, wearing a light blue shirt and a red overshirt) enters stage left.

Celes and Locke both fret, surprised.

IMPRESSARIO: Heheh, I knew you'd be surprised. That's Herle, our newest star.

LOCKE (Acting self-important): OH yeah! Probably a good, strong, tough man like me, proud, honest and true!

Celes and Locke sit down. Valrin starts to sing - he's got a very high voice, top of a tenor's range and almost falsetto.

VALRIN (Singing to Maria):
My queen, I love thee! So true is our love! (Then, turning away):
Our love, a sham, politically inclined!
To unite our warring nations.
How cruel, O love, that you see fit,
To make my wife my heart's desire.
And yet she loves me not...

MARIA (Singing to Valrin):
My liege, my lord, my king, my love! (Also turning away):
The fields of war, emptied forever,
This wedding has sealed that rift.
And yet, I cannot love you,
For we agreed this was only for our countries...
Oh, my heart! Yearning always
For you, the love of my life...

(Both turn to each other.)

BOTH: Our love, so strong, bonding us forever. (Both turn away)
My love, forbidden, makes me weep every day. (Both turn back)
I love you, with all my heart, (Both turning away)
And I wish that you'd love me too...

Stage wings (Music heard in background, but not words.)

STAGE HAND: *sniff* I love this kind of opera!

A door behind him opens. A mysterious man (Pallete swap of Gogo, but this guy's evil) enters. He whacks the stage hand...

LOCKE: Did you hear something? (In background, Maria is walking off stage.)

... and as Maria passes this evil dude, he grabs her from behind.

Stage: A new scene is starting. A spotlight appears - but no-one's there!

IMPRESSARIO: What? Where's Maria?

Valrin runs on stage.

VALRIN: Impressario! Help! Maria's been kidnapped!

IMPRESSARIO: Locke, Celes! Help! You remember how to get on stage, don't you?

CELES: Yes. Come on, Locke, let's go!

Locke, Celes and the last character run out of the box, into Maria's room, and through onto the stage. They run across the stage, Valrin joins you...

VALRIN: Let's go!

...and you all go into into the wings.

BACKSTAGE: A large area, with a very large number of small rooms. The occasional joke (eg. when you try one door, the party seperates. Locke enters, then exits immediately with a red face. LOCKE: Girl's changing room. You can't enter that room again.) There aren't any bad guys.

Eventually, you see the mysterious guy pushing Maria through a blue door.

VALRIN: I don't remember that door...

He pushes her all the way through. You all enter after him, and then the door closes, then fades away.

The door reappears in what seems like the same opera house, escept there are some minor layout changes, it looks like it's in ruins and everyone walking around backstage is a ghost. The door opens, the mysterious guy and Maria go through, the mysterious man runs off very fast with Maria, the you walk through the door. You've got to find the mysterious person and Maria - they're on the stage, which is basically in the same place. There are a large number of random enemies, nothing special. Valrin fights with you.

Valrin is surprisingly weak in combat, but a very good Wizard. He's got 400 MP, and knows every spell you know at that point, as well as a couple extras:

Life 4 - One use only per battle, costs 120 MP. Global friendly spell. The next time each character dies, that player instantly comes back to life at full HP.

Swell - 23 MP. Non-elemental attack hitting everything, at roughly the same power level as a global Ice 2, Fire 2 or Bolt 2.

Gravity - 64 MP. Global gravity spell - cuts away 1/4 of everybody's current HP, including yours and your opponents. Completely unavoidable, but has no effect on flying creatures and significant bosses.

His special ability is (surprise, surprise!) Sing. Sing's effect is simple: The enemies all slow down by around 10%. Not much unless you use it repeatedly. There's also a 12.5% chance of it being Falsetto instead of Sing, which casts an unavoidable Slow on all opponents and an automatic Haste on your entire squad.

When Valrin first uses magic, there's a short cut-scene similar to the one where Terra first uses magic, expressing surprise that Valrin - a fairly random person - would know magic.

When you've found the random guy, who it turns out is called Marlis, he rants for a minute about how much he loves opera, then fights you (New sprite):

Marlis
HP: 10000
MP: None.
LEVEL: As Valrin, and hence as Celes.
ATTACKS:
Fight.
Warble - same effect as sing, but can't be falsetto.
Enwrap - Raises his defense.
Weak to Bio.

When you beat him, he attacks Valrin - apparently out of jealousy - and knocks him out.

Maria approaches Valrin's prone form.

MARIA: Valrin, I never told you this, but... I loved you... I couldn't tell you, you never seemed to care about anything but your singing... but I'm telling you now, I love you, and I always will...

Valrin starts to glow. He turns over to face Maria.

VALRIN: I only ever did care about one thing, Maria... You. I... I love you too...

Valrin glows again, then turns into Magicite, which floats into Maria's hands. She holds it for a few seconds, then turns to face you. She walks up to Celes.

MARIA: You rescued me... Valrin rescued me... Please, as a gesture of my appreciation... Take this. I can't keep it - it reminds me too much of him...

Back at the opera house, Maria tells the Impressario a rather different story about how Valrin rescued her, but sacrificed himself on the way. The Impressario seems for a minute to really mourn for Valrin, but then runs off to write an opera about this whole business. As you leave, Maria wishes you good luck in your quest.

Your prize for all this? The Esper Valrin! When cast, he uses a more powerful version of Sing, again with the chance of it being Falsetto. He teaces Life 4 x 1, Swell x 2 and Gravity x 2.

This one's a bit of a prequel-idea I've had for some time:
Location: Figaro Castle/Kholingen-a few years before the esper is discovered.

The Empire and Figaro are not yet allies, and a young king Edgar is struggling to hold his kingdom together in the face of a full-scale imperial invasion. When a detachment of Commandos and Heavyarmors almost wipes out Kholingen (The same attack where Locke's girlfriend Rachel dies) Edgar rallies his best men to counterattack this invasion.

Part one:
Figaro Castle shuttles west to Kholingen, and Edgar heads out accompanied by three officers, whose names I haven't thought of yet. In this part of the game you stay mounted on your chocobos, and can get into random battles while riding to the war zone. The three officers are like Vicks and Wedge-you can't change their equipment and don't have any special attacks. You start with 50 tonics, 20 potions, 5 remedys, 4 sleeping bags, and 4000 gold. Here's your party's stats:

EDGAR-level 20
Relics: Gauntlet, Atlas Armlet
Rhand/Lhand: Mithril Pike
Head: Mithril Helm
Body: Iron Armor
Other: Autocrossbow

Officer 1-level 18
Relics: none
Rhand: Mithril Pike
Lhand: Heavy Shield
Head: Iron Helm
Body: Iron Armor

Officer 2-level 16
Relics: none
Rhand: Mithril Blade
Lhand: Buckler
Head: Leather Hat
Body: Leatherarmor

Officer 3-level 16
Relics: Back Guard
Rhand: Flail
Lhand: Buckler
Head: Leather Hat
Body: Leather Armor

You head towards Kholingen, fighting the standard WoB monsters in that area, only there are a few Troopers and Bounty Men thrown in the mix. When you reach Kholingen, Figaro's army is preparing to defend against another onslaught. While there, Edgar meets a grief stricken Locke for the first time. As they get aquainted, the three officers inform you that General Leo's army is but a day's march away. Quickly, Edgar and the officers race to the imperial encampment to delay their advance. You face countless heavyarmrs, in groups of three at a time, but Edgar's autocrossbow should keep your party alive until you reach a few burnt tents littered with the burnt corpses of a dozen Imperial troopers. Edgar realizes his plan to delay the enemy was already done for him! A faulty suit of Magitek Armor exploded. Edgar then goes into his little spiel about how this proves the potential dangers of harnessing magitek power, only ot be cut off mid-sentence by a near-miss from a tek laser. The four chocobo riders face off with General Leo himself! This battle should be quite nasty:

GENERAL LEO: Level 50 or so
4500 HP, 0 MP-attacks 4 times, but his shock attack is slightly weak. He should keep your guys busy for at least 20 minutes, attacking on odd rounds, using potions on even ones. When Leo is down to about 1000 HP he'll summon four commandos using the same whistling sound from the battle with Dadaluma in Zozo.
Now it's time to bust out the autocrossbow!
When you finally defeat him, Leo runs off, leaving you 2000 gold, 3000 experience, Tent x2, Fenix Down x2, and a Gold Armor if you're lucky.

The camps alarm has now sounded, and the party races back to Kholinghen to gather reenforcements. The Imperial attack commences at nightfall. Allthough Edgar's harassing the camp and defeating General Leo has lowered the morale of the Imperials, the attack is still devestating. The three officers that accompanied Edgar are critically wounded and moved to the medic's tent. You now have to face 2 Megaarmors by yourself. Edgar defeats one, and while he's on the second one he's parylized by a Stop spell. That's when Locke, now realizing he must fight for his life unless he wants to end up dead like Rachel, jumps in and defeats the Megaarmor. Cue Locke's theme music. cool.gif

Congratulations! Locke's now in your party:
LOCKE: Level 21
Relics: Sprint shoes, Sneak Ring
Rhand: Thiefknife
Lhand: Mithril Shield
Head: Bandana
Body: Power Sash

The Imperial army is forced to withdraw. Now Edgar and Locke journey to the returner's hideout to devise a plan to keep Imperial armies out of Figaro for the time being. Banon (And possibly Shadow) joins your party, and you head to Nikeah via the Lete river to arrange peace talks with General Leo. While the Imperial diplomats arrive, Locke uncovers a sneaky plot hatched by Kefka (Then Leo's second in command) to assassinate Edgar. You go to the Inn and find a secret passage underneath the top-right bed that leads to the assassin's hideout. You find a Stout Spear and a Regal Crown in the treasure chests before you face the assassins.

ASSASSIN 1: Basically a Ninja from the floating contenent only with dark blue clothes and weaker attacks. Yields 500 exp and a free X potion.
ASSASSIN 2: Looks like a Merchant from Locke's scenario, only he has 1000 HP and chucks shurikens and Dirks at you. Yields 1500 exp and an assassin dagger.

The next day, Leo has punished Kefka for his insubordination, and cuts a deal with Edgar that The Empire will cease it's attacks on Figaro in exchange for access to all of it's trade routes. Edgar hesitates, but signs the treaty knowing an opportunity to crush the Empire will come again. In the meantime, he plans to keep supporting the Returners while selling shoddy goods to the Empire until that window opens up.

Awesome! thumbup.gif I've always wanted some backstory on Edgar and Locke's friendship, but never saw any. Definitely worthy of a flashback sequence for mid-game, in my opinion.

Wow. I'm completely amazed. These aren't like those stereotypical go-after-the-really-tough-boss sidequests; these actually have a value to them, even if those bosses are really tough. Ones like the Figaro vs. Empire one are especially good because they introduce more background concerning the characters and the rest of the plot.

I just have one criticism--wouldn't Locke have to be at a level lower than about 6 or so, given that when you first get him he's usually at a pretty low level? It wouldn't make sense for a person to "delevel" over several years, and especially not Locke.

True, the levels would be disproportionate to when you start the game, but they would be more fair, seeing the hordes of magitek armor you're going up against.

After the assassin fiasco, Edgar probably makes Locke a paid messenger to the returners while going on with his bogus alliance with the Empire. Maybe Doma could fit into the story somehow as well.

Save the Sympthiser

Remember that crazy guy who distracts the guards in Vector? Well, he is taken by guards afterwards and held in the ambandoned camp near Doma.

Time: WOB when Floating Continent is avalible

Conditions: You need to have chosen Mog over the hairpin

Next time you enter Narshe, a random old guy comes up and tells you "the moogles are acting strangely".

If you want to play the sidequest, you go to the little cave with the Moogles. They are standing over a dead Raven, not Pigeon. Then, if you forgot to bring Mog with you, a scene occurs where one of your current party members run back to the airship, and drag Mog away from whatever he was doing to the Moogles. Kupeck, the Moogle way back from the first hour of the game, gives Mog the note which was attached to the Raven, who reads it outloud.

It says "Help, I am trapped in an Emperial imprisonment for helping Returners sneak into Magitech factory. I am located near the ocean, possibly near (Raven's blood covers the rest of the note)"

Heading back to the airship, Locke, Celes, ????, and ???? plan the rescue mission, remembering the old guy, and how he indirectly healed Terra. (because he got them access). When they go back to the airship, we see that Cyan is unlike his normal state, angrily bashing the side of the airship, with Sabin shaking his head.

Setzer, "HEY! What are you doing! This is fragile machinery!"

Sabin, "Leave the poor dude alone, do you know what today is?"

Setzer, "June 28, but that doesn't matter. WILL YOU PLEASE STOP HURTING THE BLACKJACK!!"

Strago, feebly "Well, acording to the rumors I heard back in Thasma months ago, June 28 is the fall of Doma."

Relm "Wait... You can remember rumors months ago, but you can't remember my birthday! Old Fuddyduddy cares more about the news than me, I'm going to go Paint something." storms off to engine room.

Cyan, "If anyone needs me, I will be in the captain's room"

Setzer, "The Blackjack is safe... Wait, thats MY room."

Sabin "Give it a rest, today...(Flashback to Doma & Imperial Base)"

Celes, "There were a total of 2 military bases other than Vector when I was in the army, one is/was near the sealed gate, the other hidden in the montains near Figaro"

Edgar glances up from gambling table, "So that's how Kefka got reinforcements so quickly..."

Locke, "I think Gestal is too smart to hide him there, Celes would know about them, and it would be easy to rescue him."

Gau "Oooooooooh, what about other desert base from flashback? Oooooooh."

Terra, "What flashback? But the desert base sounds like the place, it was constructed after Celes was proclaimed a traitor, so she wouldn't know about it."

After agreeing to go, the airship is out of your control and takes you to the little Desert patch. You see a large number of soldiers in Magitech Armor and normal Foot Soldiers.

Locke, "I don't think it would be good to attack directly, but I could always sneak in by mugging a soldier."

Mog "Kupo, I think I can take it from here, Kupo. Land me in the front entrance please."

Setzer does immediatly what the moogle suggest, he doesn't want to get hit by Water Rondo again any time soon.

Mog walks to the gate where Soldier A and C are standing.

A "Who goes there"
C "I think that it is a Moogle, they are rare and are only known to live in the Caves of Narshe"
A "How do you know that?"
C "I was going to be a scholar"

Mog starts dancing a varied form of Desert Aria, no attacks.

A "COOL, I'm going to call the other guards for this!"
C "Won't that leave the place defenseless?"
A "You need to relax, No one will know, and besides Doma is D-e-s-t-r-o-y-e-d no one lives there anymore, there is absolutely no danger."

Other guards gather and watch Mog dance.

Locke "That Moogle has to be smarter than any human I know... Setzer, take us to the rear entrance!"

Setzer, "Why? I'm trying to write a book on Gambling, don't I get a break?

Celes, "Well we could have Cyan or Gau fly..."

Setzer, "Over my Poor-from-Gambling Dead Body! He'd crash the Blackjack!"

Setzer than runs to the control and takes off to the other side of the camp. During this time, your Party that you brought to Vector is reassembled and go in to the camp, which is utterly abandoned due to Mog. There are a few treasure chest containg Sleeping bags and Tents, then you approach a Giant Tent with two different prisoners in it.

If you release the not-guy-you're-looking-for, then later in the WOR you meet him in South Figaro, running a Magicite & other rare items shop and he will give you a discount, if you don't release him, he raises the price by double.

Then you release the old man (you can't leave until you do) and a Dark Intagir falls down from the ceiling and attacks.

Dark Intagir
Level: 36
HP:50000
MP:20000;
Attack: 1;
Defense: 12;
Weakness: Cure spells;
Speed: 30;
Magic Attack: 18;
Magic Defense: 172;
Magic Evade: 0;
He is also healed fully by Doom, and can't die atomaticly with Life or Life 2
Steal; Name Change Card
Metamorph: Dried Meat & Green Cherry
Win: 3000 gald and if very very lucky, one Ribbon
EXP; None (hehehehehe)
Sleeps and invisible, uses Starfall (a Meteo-like attack, slightly weaker) when awakened, except that he is awake for 2 turns.

You are in for one giant battle, Starfall takes off only 200 less then Meteo, so I hope you have a lot of Pheonix downs and Cure spells. The best Offense is to Cure yourself and then use Cure, Cure 2 on the D. Intagir, which takes damage from cure.

After you release the old Man and escape, takeing Mog away from his soldier fans, the Old Man trips on Gau and falls off the airship.

He isn't dead, you meet him in the WOR after you get Mog and Umaro. He appears in Narshe looking for the moogles and recognizes you. He thanks you and teaches Mog his unique dance, Crazy Tango.
The move confuses enemies, and distracts them for one turn. It can also so stuff like Plasma and Snare as well as heal. The scene turns Vector like when the move is used.

In the ending, an extra scene occurs where Old Man starts to rebuild Narshe as the moogles come back from hiding and then own the town and the caves.

Well, there is my extra side quest and boss and move and shop. Hope it works.

Could you repeat that?
