I decided to take a break from developping "stuff" and "things" to play a bit of FF6. And I noticed, man, are the items you get in chests early on useless! Seriously, sometimes it looks like they picked a random consummable.
For instance, you can get a soft/gold needle/whatever they call it nowadays in the chest near one of the merchants in Figaro Castle. However you can't even be stoned until much, much later in the game. And by then, well, you can easily buy 99 softs. So... what the heck? Why not give us something we WILL use early on with our meager stats, like a potion or a phoenix down, or even a tent? Same goes for the green cherries and such in Figaro... And then you get an elixir from the clock in Arvis' house... Am I the only one who feels the item placement in this game could've use a bit more work? ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 15th April 2007 03:37 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Well it's an interesting observation that you've made. Still, you don't have to get those things at the first opportunity you have. You can wait until post-Zozo to pick up the elixers. As far as the softs in figaro castle go, you actually CAN get stoned shortly after by the Cirpius's in Mount Koltz, though it's not commonplace. Green cherrys coming early on is not all that surprsing given that Celes learns the imp spell shortly after joining the cast. I guess they put these in just in case she got hit with a confusion attack and imped a party member.
If the item placement could use some work, it's not the only thing. |

Mostly just need antidotes, potions and phoenix downs if you're really that unlicky early on but you can always get the relics to bar the poison status. Though all those items you get in the beginning can help later on. Everything works out in the end, as it is in many things. (sorry to get all zen like for a moment
![]() The thing i liked about this game, dealing with items at least, is that i made use of the items, unlike some of the newer FF's where motes and fangs just rot in my pack. This post has been edited by Bane_o_Hrothgar on 15th April 2007 18:51 -------------------- Nerf Yiazmat! |

I think a lot of those items are there so you're not caught totally off guard by the first stone/imp/zombie monster. The game just gets you ready for when you are attacked, and doesn't screw you over if you didn't know what was coming.
