I'm having trouble finding them. I'm trying to make a complete list of them. Here's what I have so far for things with FF references in them (not by Square):
-Robot Chicken -Homestar Runner -8-Bit Theater -Neglected Mario Characters -Order of the Stick -VGCats -Charlie's Angels -The 2004 olympics -Zelda: LttP -Smash Bros. Melee -Tales of Symphonia What are some other FF references that don't appear on the FF Compendium page (a lot of these didn't, but some did)? Because I want to know. -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

Um, If I may ask, how do they allude to Final Fantasy in Smash Bros. Melee and Tales of Symphonia? Just curious really.
Also, there's a site called www.videogamerecaps.com that's fairly popular that does entire recaps on Final Fantasies. I'm not sure if that counts though. -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

This thread would be a lot more productive if you actually described the cultural references instead of just listing other games/movies/etc. that have in some way mentioned Final Fantasy.

I don't know if this would count, since it's still by Sakaguchi and numerous ex-Squareheads, but...
Blue Dragon - Many deliberate FF easter eggs. Item-wise, there was a "Princess Garnet," which was a gemstone that you could use to make rings out of (in reference to FF9's Princess Garnet). In battle, the power-up boost is also called a "Trance," which may be another FF9 reference. |

In ToS there was someone in the slums looking for a flower girl (aka Aeris), and in SSBM there were three random names for characters: "Vivi," "Lulu," and to a lesser extent "Odin." -CSM

If you're including non-socially-relevant media like webcomics, then your list is pretty much never-ending. I really can't see how a truly accurate, all-encompassing list like this could ever be made.
And while I'm here, the video game Secret of Evermore has Cecil from FF IV as the shopkeeper in the second medieval town. And techincally SoE ISN'T made by Square, as it was made entirely by Square's American branch, with the development team headed by Ted Woolsey. It never even had a Japanese release. -------------------- |

Just thought I'd add that in Secret of Evermore, some of the characters from FF6 are in the audience at the coliseum. I read about it on Wikipedia, and I've seen screenshots.

^I know. I'm talking about things not made by Square. Keep in mind that anything from Enix in the '90s isn't made by Square.
Yeah. There's gonna be lots of webcomics on that list. But that's where most of the world's FF references are. If Homestar Runner comes out with some referecnes to the SNES FFs, I won't be surprised at all. -CSM This post has been edited by Crazyswordsman on 8th April 2007 02:50 -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! But Secret of Evermore WASN'T made by Square. It was made by Square of America. And I still think that making a list like this is a complete waste of time. It's too difficult to find each and every one ever made, and you also run the risk of identifying coincidences as references (which I think you may have already done multiple times. -------------------- |

So, how exactly do some of these reference FF anyway? I can see why some of them do, such as the neverending list of webcomics you're going to have, but the olympics and Charlies Angels?

Edit Quote Well, that was idiotic of me to miss that important line. What are some other FF references that don't appear on the FF Compendium page While FF7 and 8 are strictly one player games, creating an illusion of two-player is as simple as sticking a second controller in and having another person tap away. Anyone's who has had to entertain a young kid or sibling may have done this. This post has been edited by DragonKnight Zero on 10th April 2007 20:33 |
