Do you people have any idea how hard it is for me to make this post, having heard of this...thing for going on to two years now and having NO idea what the hell they're talking about. I think I've been here longer than the poeple who first started using the term. Hell, I stopped playing the game after people started using it. I've searched here, I've searched google and I've searched wiki and there is no where that actually explains what this 'trick' actually is.

So I'm just gonna swaller me pride, bite the bullet and ask the friggin question:

WTF is Wind God Gau?

It's a bug you can exploit by giving Gau a weapon that randomly casts magic during attacks. The effect allows Gau to add the magic to his Rage's physical attack, even if that attack is something ridiculous like Cat Scratch. The Wind God setup in particular has him equipping Cyan's Tempest sword, which randomly casts Wind Slash on all enemies instead of performing a normal physical attack. Since Wind Slash's power is affected by the physical attack Gau uses, pairing it with something like Cat Scratch results in what's basically a free Ultima.

That's pretty much it, and as you might have noticed, (and what might have prompted this topic,) I mentioned in chat that it is no longer available in VIa. Sad Panda.

I don't think it's been available since the SNES release. At least, Gau couldn't equip the merit award (and therefore the Tempest) in Anthology.

So if they fixed this bug in the Anthologies release, I would imagine they would also fix it in the FFVIA one. Am I correct to assume this? Has anyone gotten to the point where they could proove or disproove? Im curious to try this if its an option, as I never did it before.

I came into FFVI with Anthologies, so i had no idea what Wind God gau was when i first came to the caves. But after hearing the name dropped a couple times I used the search function in the FFVI forums.

Can someone please explain to me how this glitch was discovered? It seems almost impossible to figure out.
Or did someone go into the coding of the game and infd out that way?

The number of bugs in FFVI easily outnumbers the hundreds (where is your god now, square-worshipping cultists? smile.gif )

Various ROM hackers have taken at some point to finding bugs in the game. The early Mnrogar crew is largely responsible for this - Master Zed and various other big FF6 hacking names had a list up at some point with quite a few bugs, mainly in the battle mechanics.

Wether they found these beneficial bugs or not, I don't know. Some are very obvious (Wind God Gau for instance - doesn't take much thinking to come up with the idea. Vanish/doom too.) Others are hidden deep in the code and take a few good guesses to spot.

I think Psycho Cyan was known a while before the bug list started though. tongue.gif

Ask Japan. When we were told about it, apparently it had been known across the Pacific for some time IIRC.

And Psycho Cyan does exist in FF6A; the bug that allows Retort to remain past death is what disappeared. The original method works if you cast Retort again after revival. There's supposed to be another method, but I don't remember what it is.

Now Wind God Gau, in its original and most useful form is pretty much gone, but the bug that caused it should still remain with rod-wielding Gogo. Anthology may have taken the Merit Award away from Gau as well, but that version had the Equip any weapon bug, so just like in FF6j, Gau could use the Tempest as soon as you finished the mine cart ride.

Some people pretend not to realize that Gau is probably one of the best characters in the game if not the best. Sabin seems really strong with his blitz's but I don't like imputting the codes.

Gau not having the merit award is one of the first things I noticed with FF3 for SNES and Playstation. But a character being good is a matter of when and where, Gau is good overall.

No, seriously, this is the first time I've ever even heard myths and whisperings of such a thing.

That's just something you can do with Rippler; it trades many more status than it should, and Interceptor is one of those. You can also do things like trade Morph between characters and make someone other than Gogo and Gau go into a Rage.

This is also the explanation behind why many people lose Interceptor at some point.

This is wrong!

I have found the Merit award in Anthology, and have equipped it, but i had no clue to this glitch.

I feel sad though that i saved over it in order to start over a few years back...sad.gif

Anyways, i have also heard of the cyan and interceptor bugs, and got the interceptor to work, but even setting it up, i have never gotten Cyan's to work!

Glitches are for Nostalgia value if you have the time, there's many ways some can glitch. Gau can't equip Merit award without one because they realized he would be too powerful.
