Well, I recently started downloading modern rock songs of the 1990's ( I miss you sad.gif - ) to burn a couple of 1990's mix to remember the good old times, I was wondering if any of you fellow forum members can give me suggestions out of the list I linked below, or any of your own personal favorites. Remember, it has to be the MTV / Radio hits of the 1990's. Obviously there are TONS of better songs that are not on the list or that never maded to the MTV stage, but I'm only looking for the POP culture hits.

I already picked a few.

1- Third Eye Blind - "Semi Charmed Life"
2- Blink 182 - "Dammit"
3- Incubus - "Stellar"
4- Sublime - "Santeria"
5- Alice In Chains - "Man in the Box"
6- Everclear - "Santa Monica"
7- Tool - "Sober"
8- Rage Against the Machine - "Bulls on Parade"
9- 311 - "Down"
10- Green Day - "When I Come Around"
11- Blind Melon - "No Rain"
12- Pearl Jam - "Jeremy"
13- Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
14- Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
15 - Stone Temple Pilots - "Plush"
16- Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones"
17- Foo Fighters - "Big Me"
18 - Faith No More - "Epic"
19- Red Hot Chilli Peppers - "Under the Bridge"

Top 525 songs of 1990's

I LOVE "Would" by Alice In Chains. I wish I could suggest Jack Off Jill, but since you're so right about tons of good songs not making MTV, I won't. ^-^;

Edit
"The Unforgiven" and "Wherever I May Roam" by Metallica and "My Own Prison" by Creed are also made of win. Ohhh, and "Head Like A Hole" by Nine Inch Nails is wonderful~!

...I'll stop. I'm gonna be like one of those "zOMG teh 80!!1!" people, except with the 90s. /shot

No Radiohead? OK Computer was one of the seminal pop albums of the 90s. Any 90's list would seem incomplete without Paranoid Android or No Suprises, though 'Creep' was their biggest pop hit. I think Jeff Buckley's pretty important, too - I'd suggest 'Grace', though most people are more familiar with his cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah.' Oasis are definitely worth including, as well as maybe Blur. I'm coming at this from a British perspective, though, maybe these bands didn't get a lot of airplay in Puerto Rico.

There are only two albums from the 1990s that I really adore - OK Computer and Sigur Rós' Agaetis Byrjun. Other standout albums include My Bloody Valentine - Loveless, Jeff Buckley - Grace, Devin Townsend - Infinity, Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die , Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven and Radiohead - The Bends. Honourable mention to Kula Shaker's 'K' album, which was the first I ever bought and still enjoy from time to time.

I know I've always been pretty partial to Oasis. I barely missed them last time they came through.

I also like Nirvana, and there's some more that's pretty tolerable too.
I've always liked Blind Melon, even though those assholes at Blender don't seem to think so.

The 90's was a pretty good time for music, and I'm sad that I wasn't in to music at all back then, because the airwaves were pretty free from trash.

I can't believe Rob hasn't destroyed this topic by mentioning all the 90's bands worth mentioning.

You rang?

The 90s were an absolute stellar time for music. Alternative and grunge are my two favorite genres of music, and really, it's not even close (next closest being classic rock from the 60s, 70s era). Here is the Bobbo approved 90s megamix (I may repeat songs already mentioned, but deal with it).

I love Alice in Chains' Man in the Box, Radiohead, U2, and Rage Against the Machine. The Red Hot Chili Peppers did some awesome stuff in the '90s as well. The '90s actually was a good year forrock music, I just wish I had more of an open mind while I was goin' ta' High School.

I'm shocked. Nobody has brought up Iron Maiden's "The Wickerman", chart-topping track from the Brave New World album? Granted, technically it's easy 2000, not 1990s, but it's not too far off. wink.gif

I may've missed it, but Mother by Danzig is also pretty good. One of the only good Danzig songs, IMO, though.

Nobody's going to mention Def Leppard? I really liked "Promises" from the Euphoria album. I know I'm not really too intellectual when it comes to music, but Promises is a track worth listening to (Too bad there was no Hysteria in that list).

I just can't seem to decide. They had some pretty memorable albums with a couple of hits.

Albums:

The only 1990's Megadeth album that was considered, and maybe it was, a "failure", was "Risk".

At the moment, my choice appears to be "A Tout le Monde" from Youthanasia.

I'm also looking for Slayer and Iron Maiden. 1990's please, their biggest hit of the decade.

Anything GooGoo Dolls will be wonderful to have- such as "Iris."
Better than Ezra and Puddle of Mudd were in the 90's, I think.

That would be "Symphony of Destruction" from their Countdown to Extinction album. Not their best song, or best album for that matter, but the song was on heavy rotation for a long time. It even garnered a cover from that lounge singer dude who decidd to put out a metal album (just covers of various lame metal bands I don't care about wink.gif ). I forget his name.

For Iron Maiden the song that I hear played most often is "Run to the Hills." It was written in te 80's though. For 90's Maiden I'm not sure what woud be considered a hit... maybe "Fear of the Dark" or "Falling Down." And for Slayer, that's less obvious. Probably "Seasons in the Abyss" would be concidered their hit. Seems whenever I manage to catch a Slayer video on a rare play on TV it's that song.

If you're really sticking to 1990-1999, then Maiden's albums range from No Prayer for the Dying, Fear of the Dark (the actual song being a massive hit), Virtual XI, The X Factor, and just barely past 1999 but worthy of mention nevertheless, Brave New World.

Public Enemy Number One and Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter are some of the better songs on No Prayer for the Dying. Fear of the Dark has, quite obviously, Fear of the Dark. Most of the tracks on that album are really good, too. Virtual XI was less appreciated by many Maiden fans because Blaze Bailey wasn't very popular, but most of its songs are good - Futureal, the Educated Fool, The Angel and the Gambler, The Clansman... The X Factor is another one with Blaze (the only other - in fact, I think this is the first album he participated in, in... 1995?) It's actually a really good album - look for Sign of the Cross (slow start, but great song), Lord of the Flies, Blood on the World's Hands, and 2 AM (though most people seem not to like this one - it's certainly "different" but worth a listen.)

If you're willing to consider the '00 album Brave New World, you're in for quite a treat. IMO, it's the best Maiden album. The Wickerman was #4 on the Canadian singles charts that year. Absolutely fantastic Maiden song. Ghost of the Navigator has this fabulous buildup at the start and is, overall, a great song. Brave New World is, quite frankly, my song. Best song I've ever heard. The guitar solo halfway through is stunning. The Fallen Angel is another good one. The Nomad and The Thing Line Between Love and Hate are the album's two longest tracks, both easily over 8 minutes in length and very, very good. They're largely instrumental but quite frankly they're some of the more enjoyable pieces I've heard in quite a while.

'Fraid that's nearly all 'ol Rune listens to. I mentionned Danzig in an earlier post - decent, dark, "deep" rock. Sonata Arctica is worth looking into, but I'm not sure they're pre-'00. There's always some of the older Rammstein - can't leave out the germans! Most of their older stuff is quite good. I think Megaherz also started in the late 90's - if you like Rammstein but want variety, they're worth looking into.

...Bananaphone anyone?
