I think that whatever makes CoN attractive to the veteran posters has always been the result of 'moderator nazi-ism'. Those of you who know other forums know how special it is to see a thread with a majority of long, thought-out posts; and how incredibly hard it is to maintain one. Perhaps CoN's most distinguishing feature is exactly that, which is why I don't think we need to change.

In addition, every mod is part of the providor, right? Service is something we should be thankful for, not demand. If somebody decides to leave, all he or she does in the end is stop using a service he or she once chose to accept; not the tragic seperation of a man and what's rightfully his.

I completely agree. I have frequented other forums in the past (and some that I still frequent) and have always ended coming back to CoN, reading/making "important" comments or just hanging out, and I've since tried to compare and figure out why I liked CoN so much more than the others. I finally figrured that's it's all because of the so-called "mod Nazism." The fact that people can actually be chewed out for making moronic spam-posts or for making a complete asshat out of themselves and ruining a conversation. It's come to where I'm so paranoid about that that I hardly ever make a post unless I truly have something pointful (word?) to say, and preferably something long and smart. If everybody else would come with that same state of mind it would make the forum a lot more enjoyable for those who do try to make it less idiotic.

I can't believe I read this whole thread, but there was one thing on my mind that I wanted to reply to from the first post.

By and large, the attitudes of the MODS around here has sucked lately.

Lately? The mods here have always been snide. You can go back years if you want, well before you even joined. Anyone who has been here for any length of time, like 2 hours, should be familiar with how things are run. This isn't new, and it's not going to change because one person decided to leave.

If you don't like how things are run, take The Ancient's lead and go elsewhere. It's a friggin FF forum. QQ

Edit
Last sentence wasn't directed at anyone specifically. Just a statement.

Also, what's funny, Lasz isn't even a mod. He has no mod powers and his only job is, IIRC, posting news. I laugh.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone pointed that out.

My only other contribution on the subject: Hanyou is half right. If you go back to 2001-2002, what you might call the "mod evil score" (sometimes it's OK not to press shift!) was much, much, much, much higher than it is now. To some extent or another, CoN has always run with fairly draconian moderation. Like marmite, you probably either love it or hate it. Or maybe you're like me with jelly babies: you think you like them until you actually eat them and remember what they taste like. Or something.

I'd have thought a person like you would appreciate a stern approach by authority to anyone acting out of turn, Hamedo. Also thought you'd appreciate that The Ancient left of his own accord and the mods have graciously allowed him, and now, Zodiac, the option to return if they wish when other places with more lax modship would nail the door shut and throw away the hammer.

Which is actually quite silly because that's a perfectly good hammer.

And the beautiful irony is of course, no moderator ever retorted to The Ancient nor has The Ancient been in any way punished. It was me, annoyed at someone else undermining the newsposters on something I felt was vital information to this community, sparking a tantrum from him when Kara agreed that it was true the poster of the second set of information could easily have passed it on instead of simply slamming it down. The Ancient apparently took personally Lasz's obvious displeasure at people having not once, but twice, pipped him and his fellow newsposters to the finish line with information on a game many people here want to know about. And until this, there wasn't much fanfare because it had been of no major consequnce he left. I myself found him rude at the best of times and downright insulting at others. He often posted one-line retorts and other less than contributory posts. Sad thing was, in his first few hundred posts he wasn't like that IMO.

All I can really hope for now is that it starts dying down and people face reality. Calm Down Dears, It's Only The Internet.
