What's your favorite of the new job classes? Could you tell me why? I haven't gotten the game yet

This should be a pole. =3
My fave new class.. I'd say Gladiator. The Finisher move has a chance of dishing out 9999 damage. Although it may miss a bit, three turns of missing is worth it for one elemental attack. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

I haven't beaten Enuo yet. That bastard starts dishing out mega uber attacks against me and Almagest is no laughing matter (5000 tops) even if you are using Reflect Rings or Carbunkle to do that "random black magic on all characters to do more damage on boss" strategy. I have a good feeling I'll get Necromancer once I beat him.
For now. Gladiator for teh win. !Finisher is awesome and !Blitzblade is like attacking...except you attack everyone at the same time isn't that great? I liked Cannoneer job, but I didn't really care too much for !Open Fire or !Combine. Tho EXP UP is nice. For Oracle, it was ok, I guess. |

Necromancer as a job sucks. Being undead all the time leaves either their drain skill, or White Wind as the only way to cure um. ><
Thier skill, Dark Arts however is great, exellent replacement for black magic once you learn all the skills. Well... skills I've found anyway... -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

Can anyone tell me what specifically can the Oracle do(and equip)? It looks like an interesting class for my magic users, but I wouldn't know yet.

My vote is for Necromancer. Usage-wise, they're not as great as the berserker, but they're undead, which is terrifically unique. I think Square did a great job with them... now, if only they could wear bonemail.

AP Up is nice though. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

OK, I just got the first three new classes, and they're pretty cool. Here're my thoughts.
Oracle: this one isn't very useful. Its countdown attacks are too long in coming to be any good, and its other abilities aren't worth it at all. However, once mastered, the hellacious Magic bonus for your Freelancer (best in the game; surpasses the Summoner's old record) and the sexy AP Up ability are definitely worth the long wait. Cannoneer: it's basically a Chemist with offensive alchemy instead of support alchemy. Open Fire isn't terribly useful, but with some blitzshot and decent mixing items Combine is worth keeping around. Of course, the real reason to use this baby is for that delicious Exp Up ability. Gladiator: this mofo is almost broken. We have a new best tank class in the game. Its Strength stat ties with the Monk for the highest in the game, it equips heavy armor and good weapons, and Finisher and Blitzblade are way too strong for having zero drawbacks. Finisher has probably surpassed Spellblade as my favorite physical command ability. It's that good. From what I'm hearing, Dark Arts is like Black Magic, but more MP-intensive and way stronger. I already can't wait. -------------------- |

Right now, I'd say Gladiator and Necromancer are the two I'd go for.
Gladiator Pros: Can equip almost any Melee weapon Finisher can deal some deadly damage and Elemental Attack can KO an enemy with the weakness to that characer's element, like high level Spellblades Cons: They have lower hit points then most of the other Melee Classes Necromancer Pros: Undead leads to Killing yourself with Death. White Wind heals to. White magic can heal after the battle as well Spells are powerful Highest HP for mages, heck, even some warriors Cons: Can't equip Bone Armor Doom kills you even if you are Undead! I've had one killed by the Cursed Ring. They're first ability they gain from job up is useless at this point. Oh, and Dark Arts can't be Double Casted. Edit Sorry for the confusion eariler. I've had Faris do hers to Fire-type enemies (the Liquid Flames in Phoenix Tower), and it still does 9999 damage. Elemental weaknesses or strengths don't matter; it's just max damage whenever it comes out. -------------------- |

No, he means that with enemies not immune to death, if you attack them with the element they're weak to (suck as King Behemoth with water) it becomes a death attack with 100% accuracy. And the elements do count, as I've found against the Crystals. I dunno how to explain your Liquid Flame thing. I was completely unaware of this fact, and that is really super-cool! All I knew was that if they absorb the element, they get +9999, and if they don't, they take 9999. But instant kill to weaknesses, that is sweet! I think it makes some sense too tho. Edit And to follow with the point, I guess that Gladiator would have to be my favorite new class then. Forgot to mention that part. ![]() This post has been edited by leilong on 29th December 2006 03:52 -------------------- If internal struggles were as enjoyable and glamorous as the self conflicted wars within video game characters, we would all be statues, reveling in perpetual self war. -Me Play me on Rock Band 2, GH-WT, or any other Xbox GH! I haven't gotten the Necromancer yet, but so far I think the Gladiator is my favourite. I put Bartz in that job and I never switched him out. !Finisher is definitely helpful in those stupid random battles that I just can't beat and the ability to equip any melee weapon is great. I tried the Oracle but I found that it was pretty much useless.

I'm not very sure. Cannoneer and Gladiator are great fun, Gladiator especially, but nothing is more powerful in terms of DPS than Spellblade + Rapidfire, etc. I liked Oracle for it's passive abilities, Read Ahead was pretty much a necessity in the bonus dungeon, and I could run through the entire Dimensional Rift without entering one random encounter! Gained ABP up was very nice for mastering jobs. But definitely not a job I'd ever put to use in combat.
As for Necromancer, it's a novel idea, but by the time you obtain it, there's no point in using him other than the impressive spell animation factor. He's just a Blue Mage with a gimmick... -------------------- |

Necromancer. They actually succeeded in being unique.
Dark Arts is awesome. It's a more powerful summon ability, with some small single target spells too. Undead is nicely unique, though not quite as useful as the Bone Mail's undead. I havent even tried the summoning demons thing, though I suppose it's not much better than Animals or Gaia. My only complaint about the job classes isnt the jobs themselfs. It's the way you obtain them. Possible spoilers: highlight to view You just pick them up off the ground, with no explaination as to where they came from. Even the one off Enuo doenst really have an explaination. Shards came from the 4 crystals, so I guess it could be assumed these were from world 2's crystals, but that doesnt explain Enuo having one, especailly when the crystals were not shattered when he was consumed. |
