Well after becoming skilled in MS paint, I was dissastified with the fact it made the quality go down with each alteration.

So I downloaded the Gimp

Being much more versatile than MSpaint, it's not easy to figure out how to do everything.

so I'm looking for someone who has had experience with "The Gimp" to shed some light.

Anyone who has don 3D animation has probably used this or photoshop to make materials. (that's where I'm at now in my 3D animation class).

And help is greatly appreciated.

lol. I'm skilled with MS Paint and a little with Photoshop. I even have a Graphx Tablet.

So, Cloud_Strife510, what exactly do you want to know?

I've got a few general suggestions for you though. When you have an image open, be sure to open some of the different dialogs (especially the "Layers" and "Palettes" dialogs) with the "Dialogs" menu item and dock them together so you've got the important stuff laid out in front of you. When you quit GIMP, if you don't close these dialogs first, they will open up again when you start GIMP.

Also, when you are experimenting, realize that most things don't work quite like Paint (for example the "paint can" won't automatically fill in an area of a certain color like Paint, it fills in a selection, and one way you can make a selection is by color.) It requires more steps but it is definitely more versatile.

I am saying I have used Photoshop before and I edit and draw stuff quite a bit due to the Graphx Tablet which is a board that plugs into your USB Port which has a Stylis Pen to is which allows you to use your computer similar to a pencil and paper.

Well i'm currently trying to figure out how to make colors transparent.
I'm leaning towards using .png

well laugh out loud. GIMP yip of the day: "The layer named "background" is special because it lacks transparency. This prevents you from moving the layer up in the stack. You may add transparency to it by right clicking the layers dialog abd selecting "add alpha channel"

well I'm going to go experiment with that right now.

BDZ I'm finding the advice you gave very helpful. And for what I am working on right now, GIMP is better than i could have imagined, I can even section off areas to be protected from being erased. Vast improvement from MS paint.

I have a bit of experience with GIMP, so I can be a small help if you need it.

A tip about transparency is to save your work as a .gif to make it transparent on all browsers. Also, .gif prevents those annoying half-transparent pixels that you get when you copy and paste using the hand-drawn cutting tool.
