We HAD one that me, and my bro would sleep in my sister's room, but it was ruined last year. We would open our stockings there and make coffee for our parents, except this year my parent's woke up first...
Oh, and we always have brunch at my grandma's, which my sister is just too lucky to miss out on it. -------------------- Kel'Thuzad: She is persistent. Reminds me of you, death knight. Arthas:Shut up you damned ghost. -Warcraft III Kel'thuzad comparing Arthas and Sylvanas Windrunner. |

Every Christmas Eve, a local radio station hires an old journalist with a deep voice and he starts ranting about the meanign of christmas and counting the minutes until Midnight. In my city that program is a tradition (if I ever spend Christmas alone, I'd like to have a recording of that man's voice doing the countdown).
In my family, during the afternoon, my father listens to folkloric carols (they remind him of his hometown). We usually go around town in our car at 10 PM (since my mother is religious, sometimes we go to the Cathedral for a while). After that, we go back home and wait until my grandma and my aunt arrive (sometimes another relative comes). Then we listen to the radio I mentioned until midnight. At 12 we sae Merry Christmas to each one and open the gifts (my sister and I are in charge of that). After the gifts, we eat dinner (turkey and pork or turkey and chicken, this year we had the second choice). When we finish eating, we talk for a while and then my relatives leave and we go to sleep (around 2 AM). In the morning, we eat breakfast together very early (around 7 AM) while we talk and we eat the turkey leftovers for lunch and dinner (sometimes it lasts a couple of days x_X). -------------------- x_X |

I'm sure my tradition isn't exactly novel, but my family and I still walk around various neighborhoods looking at all the christmas lights.

Quote (Neal @ 5th December 2006 15:43) Every year since before I was born, when the extended family gets together to exchange presents, we have a geography test. There are usually about twelve participants, give or take a few - whether or not one of my uncles is in Australia, for example, is a wildcard, and my sister was in Ukraine one year - and the winner of the previous year's test gets to make the test in the current year. It is a great honor to make the test. I've won it twice now, in 2002 and 2004 and I really need to start climbing the ladder to try to knock off the three most common winners - my mom, uncle, and grandpa. To show how important this test is to the family, I'll mention that I received an email a couple days ago giving me the information on the areas around the world that I need to study. This year's test is out of 100 points, with 10 pages of map identification. Really obscure update - I won the geography test this year and am now slated to make it for next year. Woo hoo! -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? And hey, put the laptop down for a while In the night there is something wild I feel it, it's leaving me |

My sister has become the de facto supervisor for The Family Christmas Get Together and she set up a silly ornament exchange game for anyone who wants to play (ya gotta bring an ornament to participate) that's become tradition for the past couple years, but she went silly/stupid with it this time when she had everyone take a quiz first to decide the order in which people chose an ornament...whether they were actually going to participate or not! It got even more ridiculous, when folks started arguing over the scores they got because the questions on the quiz were too vague!
I sat back and watched all this with that horrble, "there's a biological connection I have with these people..." kinda realization running through my head. This post has been edited by Narratorway on 20th January 2008 00:41 -------------------- |

I have a giagantic amount of cousins and relatives, so every year we all head over to my grandma's small, cozy farmhouse for a gift exchange, which is really fun since there are so many of us. after that, we sing christmas carols until midnight.
