It's official: for the third year in a row, the creators of the webcomic Penny Arcade will be hosting a benefit to support children who have to spend the holidays in a hospital ward. Called "Child's Play", this multi-pronged attempt to make Christmas a little brighter involves auctions, a charity benefit dinner, and donations through amazon.com, dstore, and paypal.

Conveniently, one could hit two birds with one stone by purchasing items on hospitals' wish lists by doing it through the CoN's link. (Though not quite in the league of sick kids, this website could use a little charity, too.)

I actually bought a GBA game for the childrens hospital in Denver here last year, and I strongly recommend that anyone who is a gamer show their generosity by donating. I can say from experience that even making a really small donation feels really good. I also really admire Gabe and Tycho for making something like this; now we can show that not all of us gamers are selfish.

Uhm... are you suggesting that most gamers are selfish?

Anyhow, I'll be at the charity ball itself due to my location. Seems like it'll be a pretty fun time.

I was suggesting that most people I know perceive gamers to be selfish in general. Please, let's not start an argument over this.

Anyways, chou and Elessar in the same place? I wouldn't be surprised if you two challenged each other to mortal kombat or something.

Nah, I wouldn't start an argument over it because the end result has already been pretty much widely accepted in most circles. Gamers are predominately teenagers, which are pretty much as self-orientated as you can get in terms of demographics. That people refer to them as gamers instead of teenagers is just sensationalism, much like 'rockers' might have triggered emotional responses in the past. It's not much of an argument. wink.gif

As for chou?

My name is in the open. If you are going, I'd like to meet you. I'll even sit at the same table as you. I live in West Seattle, 98126. We can meet somewhere downtown, perhaps somewhere crowded like the International District near Uwajimaya, and chit-chat about gamers helping children at hospitals like Virginia Mason. Because after all, I'm sure you wouldn't lie about something like contributing to a sick children's foundation.
