Pretty self-explanatory. Do you use a players' guide?
I have used a players' guide before, but only after i beat the game at least once. It's not as much fun if you know what's coming the first time you play. anyway, opinions? -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Well after I've played the game and beat it a few times I would go and buy the players guide to see if I missed anything and the like. Plus if I ever sold it (When I did) I sold the players guides with the game.
I don't see anything wrong with them after you play and beat the game at least once |

Well you asked for opinions but theres really nothing to say but yes i use players guides or no i dont and why.So one that note yea i use players guides but only after i win the game and cant think of enything else to do.To use a players guide while you play a game is just wrong. You by a game to enjoy it (i hope)and then you shorten it by reading every thing you nead to do.It just dosnt mack sence.

I usually get the Players Guide for tough games, or long RPGs. I chose the first option, even though I don't always use them. I like to have it there, just incase I need it for a puzzle, or a stratagy, or where I need to go. I also like to try and get everything the first time through a game, because I don't have patience to go through it a second time.

I usually go through once on my own, then figure out the secrets afterwards.
There are exceptions for really tough bosses or puzzles, though. (Lufia 2 comes to mind.) I rarely go out and buy any player's guides anymore, since one need only wait for somebody to post up a walkthrough at GameFAQs, or some other site of that nature. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I put the first choice cause it was closest to what I do, but if I may make a slight change:
Yes, when I need to know where to go. Essentially, I play the game, get stuck and quit. If I like the game enough however, I get the guide, beat that spot and continue. Before I beat the game, I'll start a new game and use the guide to find all the stuph I didn't find before and then I'll play two games, one by the seat of my pants (unless I get stuck again) and the second shamelessly using the guide every step o da way. -------------------- |

I think knowing what to do kind of takes the fun out of a game, so I don't use them. However, in a game where the solution is really obscure, I might sign on to gamefaqs and check that out.

well, i don't normally buy them, i get them as gifts from my mom and friends who think i need them, so i have hundreds of strategy guides on the bookshelf that i've probably looked at once, except for the ff5 strategy, but that was just for the alchemy list. However i always wait until i've beaten the game at least once, because strategy guides are usually plot spoilers as well as secret revealers. unless you get the really obscure ones. I apply this same rule with cheat codes. (exceptions to fighting games, cuz its fun to mess with stuff

I try to go through the first time on my own, then bust the player's guide (really just online walkthroughs) out the second time. It's very necessary sometimes, I would have never gotten the good ending of Chrono Cross without some help.

Every once in awhile I'll get the guide WITH the game, because the store I go to takes 10% off the guide when you buy a game, so it's work it. Haha. But I usually try not to look at it at all until I beat the game.

I usually try to get through a game on my own before getting the secrets. Usually I find out I miss a lot, so the second time through with a players' guide is still fun for me. But players' guides are a waste of cash, GameFAQs all the way. Cheap Cheating.

Well Normally I don't use them, But for the fact of FFX, , I HATE THE BEVELLE CLOISTER OF TRIALS. It took me almost an hour to complete, even with the guide. Well maybe I'm just stupid but I thought the cloisters were hard and some needed a guide.

i sort of feel having someone tell you exactly where to go and what to do kinda cheapens a game, and totally takes away the point of even playing in the first place. its like reading an interactive book when you live by the guide. id really rather have someone come over and we can figure out stuff we havent already to complete the game, and after im confident we have found everything there is to know about the game, its sometimes fun to thumb through a guide just for shits and giggles and see if we missed anything, or did anything differently than normal. and i almost always fully complete a game without i guide, i found garnets real name without the guide, and let me tell you, the amount of bother it takes to find out her real name was kinda ridiculous
a friend of mine buys the guide WITH the game and i see him do this, and i almost pity him. hes screwing himself with a 5 foot pole by doing this and he looks at me like i got 3 heads when i ask him what the hell hes doing. different strokes for different folks i guess. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |
